our wives under the sea by julia armfield (recommend listening to this one by audiobook) and shark heart: a love story by emily habeck (recommend reading by hard copy/ebook). both books are very very similar in that the authors use body horror as a vehicle to explore grief. i know the plot to shark heart sounds completely insane, but TRUST ME!!! both books are strange, unsettling, beautiful, haunting, melancholic and i've thought about both literally every single day since i first read them. i refuse to shut up about these books. 😂😂

I am LOVING The Realm of the Elderlings so much, I'm reading them on kindle for convenience and will probably by them all in paperback as well bc I love them so much.
i read the last trilogy on kindle and i kinda regret it just because i feel like it should have been read on paperback like the rest of the books but i just couldn't wait!!!
Thank you Ellias. You convinced me last year to start the Realm of the Elderling when I was not sure I wanted to get into a 16 books series. However, I did finish them all last month without any regret. I read the novellas as well which are a nice addition. I loved every minute of this experience, I laughed, cried, feared, cursed, grieved with Fitz and others.
I'm so happy to see you and all the people in the comments that are discovering the series. I bought them on release, I can say I grew up with them and to this day it's a mystery to me why Robin Hobb isn't more famous. I mean, she is very well known, but I feel she doesn't get as much praise as she should. I was so deeply touched by these books. I can still remember where I was and how much I cried in Fool's Fate. I never cry for books, and even then it can be a page that makes me tear up. Fool's Fate I was a mess for like *that point* to the end. And I still think regularly about the last book ending. There are so many great characters, Hobb truly is a master at describing people, as flawed as they are. Fitz is insufferable, but I still love him as a friend... the one you want to grab by the shoulders and shake very hard because he is stupid. Do yourself a favor and commit to reading the series. I know it's a lot to go through, I know there are some pacing issues, some parts are certainly slow. But it is so worth it in the end, you will surely find some characters you care about and I cannot think of any other story where all threads come together across multiple books in such a satisfying way.
YES I've completed the entire thing and plan on making a video for the last trilogy too but i love these books sm. making my way through the stormlight archive by brandon sanderson and hello, his characters remind me of hobb's characters too hmmm but still good!
@@ellias I'm curious to know what you think about the series finale... I was a wreck, but it was so good for me. I've been slowly reading the Stormlight Archive too, but I'll be honest so far I haven't found the same level of character depth and psychological exploration. I like Sanderson for other reasons, but speaking of characters Hobb is superior for me.
PPPPRRRREEEEEAAAACCCCHHHHH!!!!! The Realm of the Elderlings is THE best series I have read in my life - and I cannot imagine anything else ever surpassing it. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Do I still love it with all my heart? HELL YEAH. It's a big commitment, it's super long, but it is so so so worth it. :') I so look forward to reading it again sometime in the future
