- The owners of this unusual table, Jack and Jamie of Schramsberg Vineyards in Calistoga, California, told Norm that it was originally a Mexican paymaster's table, carried on horseback, and used to pay groups of laborers on site. Built of recycled pine, the desk functions quite well today as an end table - and conversation piece. The desk has splayed legs with a stretcher and a two-sided pull-through drawer once used for holding money.

Thanks Norm and Russell for bringing this great show back .
Let me get this straight. Not only are you letting us go down memory lane by allowing us access to these episodes, but you are giving us links to be able to purchase the plans too. Now that is a quite the deed.
You can use modern tools though 😀
Great project Norm and Russ. Wish this program was still on, thanks!
Thank you for letting us stream this lost classic. We were waiting for the router station from this same season.
Nice quirky little project, I could see a couple of these being used as bedside tables.
Reclaimed old growth pine. Norm was sure lucky to know the right people to get his hands on the best stuff.
i want that band saw
That's a fun challenge to craft with its angled legs and tenons etc. I read that 18th century master carpenters had unique ornate brass dovetail shapers so thar their work could be recognised by the unique shape of their dovetails.
1996 and Norm was helping save the planet.
Good to use old pine no pitch left in them.
This is also the debut of his current tool belt.
Out of curiosity, any idea the make and model of that bandsaw Norm was using in this episode? It had a monster wide blade in it. I liked it.
Gotta say, coming home after a long day at work, it is really nice to relax and rewatch these episodes. Wish we could get Norm to do an annual Christmas episode. I'm 55 and have watched plenty of shows over the years. Still miss the New Yankee Workshop the most of them all.
Doubt the make it anymore but it's a Hitachi CB75F Resawing Band Saw. It's a beast!
@@newyankeeworkshop Many thanks. I'm thinking of the used market to find one.
👍
I'm curious about what became of all of these beautiful projects and the prototypes.
We have a whole playlist of project updates:

Love seeing Norm again! Can I suggest allowing the resolution be at least 720p so I don't feel like I forgot my glasses?
Some episodes are better than others. We work with what we got 😀
Es usted un buen oficial
Interesting.
Another good'n.
So, you mean to tell me that it was this guy who started that malapropism by adding the prefix "re" to the word "sawing"?
Was there a paymaster chair too go
with this desk?
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼🤓
pbs
Where's the child's alphabet wagon and high chair?
We can't post them because of newer child regulations that didn't exist back then. Lots of other videos though.
I can understand the high chair regulations but what is the problem with the alphabet wagon. It is safe and the blocks can not post a choking hazard.
paymaster's were shorter back in the old days, that's why the desk was so short
Before we use any power tools, let’s take a moment to talk about shop safety. Be sure to read, understand, and follow all the safety rules that come with your power tools. Knowing how to use your power tools properly will greatly reduce the risk of personal injury. And remember this: There is no more important safety rule than to wear these, safety glasses.
True believer. Thanks😊
My conspiracy theory is Norms glasses... are just glasses.
@m0nk3yl0v3r perhaps his lenses were polycarbonate safety lenses like I use for my glasses.
