Command & Conquer Red Alert 1 Intro

- C&C Red Alert is a PC RTS game. It takes place during WWII without the events caused by Hitler happening. It was made as a prequel to the game C&C Tiberian Dawn (or Gold). C&C Red Alert is still one of my favorite PC games. Hope you enjoy the intro movie.
This was without a doubt the coolest thing in the world in 1996!
Man as a 17yo at the time - When I first saw this intro I had actual tears of excitement in my eyes after that first tesla coil sound when the westwood logo first appears, I shiver every time still when I watch this, fantastic intro just fantastic!
@@ktopaz I think it's the chronosphere sound.
@Prisoner416 Time vill tell. Sooner or later, time vill tell.
That same year also saw Quake, Diablo, Daggerfall, Master of Orion 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Death Rally. So I would say some doubts are warranted.
It's kinda sad that it doesn't even sound believable anymore. Like, if I only knew gaming today, and somebody told me that you could have so many excellent, innovative, high-quality game releases in a single year, I would laugh at them. But it was par for the course back then - think about any year in the 90s, pretty much, and it's like that. What happened to the industry?
MAn I played this when i was 12 and got up at 6 so I could play it before I had to school! Great memories of this!
- Mr Hitler?
- Yes? What is it? I have no time to stand around here!
- Yes, I understand.
Really? haha what a script!
I have wondered about that since 1996, thank you!
The scientist sounds more Dutch than German. He says "ik vorsteedt" instead of "ich vorsteedt" which got to me when I heard this again, 20 years since I last saw it lol.
THANK YOU! I have been wondering for 30 years!
@@Daggz90 It's actually supposed to be "ich verstehe". The scientist does indeed have a harsh foreign accent, which is weird since the scientist is supposed to be Einstein, who obviously had no foreign accent (but a swabian one) since he was German himself.
"Time will tell... Sooner or later... Time will tell"
*Boss music starts
Heh... the whole game is basically a warning of "Be careful messing with history..." :)
One of the greatest video game intros of all time.
+Matthew Kent "One of the greatest" means there can be more than 1.
Also fuck Metal Gear Solid. Escape from New York rip off.
Yes from 2:15 onwards
@Matthew Kent No, not even close.
@Matthew Kent This game has a chilled as fuck Albert Einstein going back in time and literally erasing Hitler from history which is followed by a 90s video game montage of military shit to a badass song called Hell March.
2023 and this is still the best game intro ever. The Chronosphere wind up sound gives me goosebumps everytime. All the different military scenarios depicted not only give you a hint of the story ahead but gives you a sense of the scale of the war. And of course, the best music track of all time to top it off! Just epic.
Of all the things I loved about this a kid, "Westwood Studios ... proudly presents..." was my favorite. It wasn't just a splash screen, it was a declaration, and to see someone stamp that on their game was impressive. How many day 1 patch studios and publishers could do that today with a straight face?
CD Projekt proudly presents... Cyberpunk 2077
Absolutely. It even stands the test of time today. Every time I here that chrono-drive spin up I get PUMPED! Proudly Presents - HELL YA!
That always stood out to me, too. Even back then when I was in middle school.
“Westwood Studios proudly presents” an amazing childhood.
I hope everyone at Westwood Studios understands the Joy and Fun they brought into many many peoples lives. Thank you.
This game totaly took a toll on my grades back then
I feel you bro.. But I'm glad I played this gem of a game.
Did they make them better?
my tests grades were shit, after playing hell march, it is now a doctorate and PhD
You must’ve been retarded then. I played this game and got good grades
Are you guys preparing for WW3?
2:14 - 20 years later, I still get a massive adrenaline burst listening to this soundtrack. Simply awesome!
I feel manhood growing.
Hell march ftw.
"Die Waaaaaaaaffeeeeen legt an!"- i really don't like humans and their wars - but i loved that game way too much - also it was my first online game, right before Homeworld :D
I burst in tears watching this. So many great memories... games were different in those days.
It was the time when you fight against evil where as now you play as evil against good :D
@@wiceorc5105 You can play as both the Allies and the Soviet Union. Both campaigns were well fleshed out too.
@@theothertonydutch No it´s not what country you play. It´s how the story is portrayed. In current games like forexample cod you dont feel like youre anymore one of the morally good guys.. Youre just like anyone else trying to survive for whatever cause. Cod used to be different too.. in mw3 you directly felt that you was still on the good side..
In the video game history, goldeneye: rogue agent (2004) was propably turning point when you started to play morally on the different side if you wanted to in video games (however there was exceptions).
@@theothertonydutch i actually preferred the soviet campaign, and nod on the original lol
@@wiceorc5105 Well put. Even in nod campaigns you yourself are always a "good guy".
remember when devs put Proudly Presents in their opening haha
QKicks Back then they had a reason to be proud.
sooner or later.... time vill tell....
this was and is still one of the most epic intro movies ever.
To this day whenever I hear the words "time will tell" I think to myself "sooner or later time will tell" and Hell March starts playing in my head. I must have watched this intro a hundred times.
I remember, Christmas 1996, already a fan of Command & Conquer, I had just turned 10 a few weeks ago, and I get Red Alert as one of my gifts. That feeling of excitement, especially when I heard Hellmarch the first time. Thinking how amazing the snow levels looked. It's such an amazing memory.
I had the exact experience. It was one of the best gaming moments of my life as a 10 year old
I got this at January as my birthday present. My first proper pc game coming from NES world. Minds were blown and neighborhood kids were screaming during this intro.
I’m 28 years old now. Thank you for the memories, Westwood
44.
I bought this game way back in 1990s. Cost me about Rs.1600 in India. This was a big hole in pocket for me as I was in college that time. But it was worth every rupee spent. Recently purchased remastered version on Steam but still not played due to deadlines. Always wondered what was the conversation between Hitler and Einstein. Now I found out here in comments. It also gave me inspiration to learn German. I know the basic German now.
the first version sold in germany was cut, without hitlers handshake, such a shame. first time i see it after 20 years.
Yeah, I saw it the first time, too, just now!
!
@John Doe shut the fuck up nazi
What do they say to each other?
@@adamski198408 "Mr. Hitler?
Yes, what's going on? I've got no time to standing around here.
Yes, I understand... I understand..."
90s devs were the pinnacle of game development. They knew what the players wanted and delivered. Westwood and early Blizzard made games only for themselves but because they had fun playing them.
So so so true, people back then made games that were fun first, they prioritize that OVER profit which is something you'll never find in triple a game developers today.
And on a personal note how sad it is to see such a prestigious company as Blizzard Entertainment fall so far. 😭
@@XxDjinn420xX The opposite is true, commie. They made great games because they wanted to succeed and so they did. That means "make a profit" which is the purpose of all businesses. The problem today is that tyrannical & corrupt govt does not allow businesses to do such things, I.e. leftism/socialism.
still gives me goosebumbs just an excellent cinematic to a great game
There isn't one sound that sounds more familiair to C&C fans from the first hour then the sound of a chronosphere in the intro.
It sounded so strange that you could imagine it being real!
That was the magic of C&C... fantasy with drops of reality mixed in. And the music of course!
That tank crashing through the wall. Chills every time.
me: "wish they would remaster this game"
Russia in 2022: hold my beer...
EA did though.

Goosebumps much?
I remember watching this for the first time in 96. The whole time travelling Hitler business was out of this world, but when Hell March kicked in ...
"I wonder if it will be raining..." - chills
Daniel Butler How does it give you chills? Just curious.
I felt it too.
Knight of Arkronia Maybe about the fact that he is coldly, calmly pondering the weather as he is about jump into the past to carry out a chrono-assassination.
It takes away from the image of the posters with Albert Einstein making goofy faces and we see him as an angry scientist who is about to erase someone from existence.
Tigerman1138 Thanks for the explanation!
There's definitely something so ominous and casual about it, isn't there? I think it's the fact that it implies he's so sure that the experiment will work and that he'll soon be in the 1920s to remove Hitler from existence, that his mind has wandered to the kind of everyday practicalities that people think about when they're going for a walk.
It's a single short line that says so much; this man must have studied the experiment until it seems less threatening and unpredictable than the rain. It suggests a man so confident in his power over human history that his real outstanding worry is inclement weather; maybe implying the weather is the one thing he can't control? (Ironic when you think about how that seems to relate to Red Alert 2...)
I think what really makes it so great is that we have very little real context for what's going on until that quote, but as soon as we hear it we know he must be going somewhere important and the mention of rain gives the other place/time a sense of immediacy and inevitability. It's a very good piece of writing, especially once you have the context of knowing where he's going and what he's going to do: he's about to change the course of modern history by removing the most significant person of the 20th century and thereby set in motion events he can only guess at... and what he's really worried about is whether or not he should bring a raincoat.
Got a lump in my throat watching this. Going back 25 years I used to have sleepovers at my friends place playing this game. Sadly life became too much for him last year.
I'm 52.been playing it since it came out.every year I'll pull out the PS and still blow out how good this was. Generals was good but this had the whole package.10/10. Soundtrack.was killer
45 here and I can see you’re a man of taste.
ra.exe was my favorite command back then...
straight to the main menu now days no intros just in game purchases.
and tons of logos...
"Hitler is...out of the way..."
...HELL of a way to start a video game
I always watched that bit at the beginning just so I could get to Hell March playing
Ditto.
My friend and I used to link our PlayStations with the link lead and played against each other! A bomb launch detected! What a great game.
The number of hours I played this game was unreal.
me too..one of the few games that kept me awake till in the morning
What is left of Westwood studios is Petroglyph Studios. That company has most of the former westwood employees, and they are still making kick ass RTS games to this day.
But the three actors that made it memorable are gone. General Sheperd, Stalin and Premier Romanov.
"time will tell" so ominous
Matt Aquino “sooner or later...”
@@Tigerman1138 "Time will tell..."
My brother and I were obsessed with this game back in the day, epic stuff. He always played the Allies and I always played the Soviets.
To my 12-year-old self this was the most badass thing in the world
This is so accurate with what's happening today with Russia that it legit gives me the goosebumps.
"Time will tell... time will tell..."
*26 years later...*
If they remove Putin like they did with Hitler
This video suddenly became more interesting.
The stealthy and resourceful allies vs the raw firepower of the soviets, never gets old.
Intro is still freaking badass. Thanks for all the great memories.
My childhood and first RTS!!
I still get chills whenever Hell March starts playing!
I get chills whenever my phone rings.
Because naturally that had to be my ringtone :)
rest in peace westwood studios
Back when ASMR was not awkward and sexualised.
I was 14 back in 1997 when I first saw this. I didn't really appreciate just how awesome this was back then. Now I do though.
Played the shit out of this and the first one, when I was a kid.
They brought the game back irl
Of all the PC games out there... this one may be the best of the best. I was 13 when this game came out and I was instantly hooked and this game was the only game I played between 1996-1997.
But if Einstein removed Hitler, then how would the guy who stayed in the present know who he was...
The assistant scientist was inside the chromosphere.
Well:
1. When Einstein returned time hadn’t caught up yet. Events were still being altered which is why Einstein said “time will tell”…indicating things were still changing.
2.
The chronosphere’s temporal field allowed kind of a “vacuum” of stable time inside. The moment they left the chronosphere they would see any changes. Only the scientists inside would remember the other timeline.
Those are just my theories.
It is literally two decades later and 2:14 STILL gives chills and produces uncontrollable head banging
One of the coolest intros and badass songs I heard on a game in highschool
I'm 16 but I like to play the games from first to last and I forged so many great memories with this game. I wish games were as well thought-out as this one.
Same
And now this may end up happening without Hitler..
Fast forward to 2022....
when this game came out, this intro was epic played at every computer game shops and even pirated cd shops during then, wherever i went in IT shopping malls ... if not for piracy, these guys could have earned millions more to retain continuation and avoid sellout to EA.
Westwood Studios didn't just present this: they PROUDLY presented it.
"Die WAFEEEEEEN! Legt AN!"
i'm 30 years old now. thank you Westwood for One of the greatest videogame and intros of all time.
To think I a 45 year old man get goosebumps whenever I hear this opening, say a lot of how awesome it is
You too huh? Same age.
Same here.
Words cannot even describe how EPIC this was in the 90s.
man I wish I could go back. Or at least soak in by observing. Like in that tv show Fringe or w/e it was called. with joshua jackson
Still get goosebumps when the soundtrack starts.
Listening to the marching music give me chills..
We need the Command and Conquer cinematic universe
YES!
My 1st real game that i bought in 1996! When i saw this intro I was so freakin thrilled! The start of a long lifetime of gaming!
Red Alert and Worms 2 for me :)
And now we are playing real game in 2022. Let the game begin.
Mammoth tanks ready for Kyiv capture.
You idiots.
Still love it still miss it. Rest in Peace C&C you were loved.
2:14 The chills down my back and the whole body
Me to its insane !!!!!!!
WESTWOOD STUDIOS
PROUDLY PRESENTS
Easier... Happier times... Ironic it's about basically a warmongering game, but listening to the chronosphere, the time will tell sentence and hell march sends me chills in waves each time. RIP my beloved C&C, you will be always the best game series to me- period...
God DAMN that is the most badass thing I ever laid my eyes on I do declare! I STILL come back to watch this everytime I hear hellmarch
This just became reality. They predicted the future.
I was thinking the same thing
Unfun fact - Ukraine (Skirmish/Multiplayer mode) are in the first Red Alert
Except in reality, the Russians can’t conquer a wet paper bag.
When Romanov declares he has a legacy to protect in RA2 I just think of Putin.
someone travelled back in time and killed mustache man?
oh man this is childhood right here!!!
Translation to Einstein to Hitler. Mr Hitler. Yes? What’s going on? I have no time to stand here. Yes I understand.
Thanks for the translation! After years of watching this intro, I never knew what they were saying
@@TheOreoritz Yep it's all thanks to my translate app
Blew my mind when I found out you could put the game disc in your CD player and listen to the soundtrack.
Loved this game so much. Played the crap out of it
PROUDLY PRESENTS
C&C was wildly successful. C&C: Red Alert really launched it into quite an Enterprise all its own.
Gaming changed when the developers stopped being proud during the presentation
goddamn this is nostalgic...
The other scientist should've definitely gone "Who the hell is Hitler and how is he out of the way?"
The Chronosphere’s area in the lab kept a pocket of time surrounding it in the field. Only after leaving the lab would the assistant see any differences.
Hitler.. is out of ze way..... ❤️
... sooner or later....time vill tell.
"Time will tell" eeem about that XD!
Hitler, is out of the way, but Putler....... sooner or later, time will tell.
"Hitler is out of the vey, I showed him 'Blazing Saddles'"
man this intro is just pure motivation.
Oh I miss Westwood... they were one of the best studios please someone bring them back without EA shitting all over there awesome work
This game reduced my grades at school.
I got to unwrap this early on Christmas eve 1996, and played it for a little while and then had to go to Christmas Eve Mass. I was sitting in church and all I could think about was getting back home to Red Alert
I remember playing this with my Squad leader after work over a dial up modem. Damn that was the days.
2023 and this intro music still gives me goosebumps.
Legt die waffen...an!
I bought this on release day and watched that intro in awe. Then I quit the game and started it again with the volume up FULL!
Absolutely incredible game and still holds up well so I have a blast every now and again using CNC NET
When you realise the entire Red Alert series is actually an argument FOR Hitler's role in history
And the argument against time travel assassinations.
He did fight against Communism.
With Hitler out of the way, nuclear missiles do less damage, and nuclear fallout doesn't last as long. Who knew? XD
Hard to believe RA is already 25 years old!
The intro is called 'Hell March' by the Tiberian Sons.
That "Proudly Presents" and bass intro still amps me up since 1996 when I bought the game.
Also Einstein getting rid of Hitler just ment the the U.S.S.R. leadership could take his place in this WW2 alternate timeline.
gives me chills even to this day
Back in the day I sort of went from x-mas lemmings to this. It was quite a thing to behold.
Great game! I still remember playing in 90s. Ah memories. 🙂
I just used that "time will tell" quote from Einstein a few moments ago.
Then came here, yup, this is where I've heard it from!
Such a great game, Westwood nearly made me repeat a grade.
The hours I spent playing this! I miss playing this game!
Gonna tell my grandchildren this was WW3
