This is what I don't get with these "analysts." They say that Dirk wasn't athletic but when you watch his prime he runs and even BEATS some SGs to FLUSH it in the rim. Recency bias always sucks.
Yeah it's frustrating. Most of the "analysts" aren't analysts. They tend to ignore facts or events that happened in the past just to make biased arguments.
I just don’t understand people forget how athletic dirk was in his prime. He could take it coast to coast. He could cross you up. He could dunk on you. Just a matchup nightmare. Everything you guys see what KD doing is what dirk used to do. (KD is a little more athletic but you get what I mean) This is why us mavs fan always say Dirk Nowitzki is underrated. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He never will. If dirk played in a huge market he’d be easily considered top 10 all time.
Completely agree with you man. Even KD said himself that he looked up to Dirk the most before he entered the league and he modeled his game after Dirk. An actual quote from KD: "Dirk is a little bit more special to me when it comes to players I admire and look up to compared to some other guys that retired." This is a great read: www.espn.com/blog/dallas/mavericks/post/_/id/4697993/durant-dirk-one-of-my-favorite-players-ever
KD has the dribble counters of a guard, Dirk was taking 4 dribbles max at a time, very limited dribble counters. He was never "athletic", he was a 7-1 rim grazer. Obviously all time great, but overrated because he won his only title behind all time great team defense and he was their worst defender. Too often he gets put in breath with Olajuwan, who was his team's best player on both ends
@@CBarber22 I agree with you. Dirk is a legend and an all-time great but can be a little overrated. He changed the game but he was probably 3rd-4th best PF in his era. Behind KG, Duncan, and maybe Webber. His defense is what hurt him
The one with one of the unguardable move in NBA history. The first one that legitimately play as a strech 4. The true revolutionary. The league MVP. The NBA Final MVP. The leader of the 1st ring for Dallas Mavericks. The greatest player that ever wore 41. Every MFFL 🐐. Dirk 'Dirty' Nowitzki..!
Wouldn’t say the first stretch 4, but definitely the blueprint for what would become the modern version of it. But there were some guys who were stretching the floor before him.
Watching those clips makes me remember how insanely agile, fast, skilled and outright incredible he was. Almost looks like he plays point forward at times with those crossovers, dribbles, spins… If Dirk was in his prime in today’s NBA I would easily rank him among the top 5. The fade-away is so freaking iconic. Also, I actually think that if Nash would have stayed in Dallas, the Dirk/Nash duo would have rivaled the Stockton/Malone combo.
Dirk would EASILY average more than 30 ppg in today's NBA. His best scoring season was 2005-06 which he averaged 26.6 ppg when the fastest pace that season was 96.92 (which was slower than the lowest pace of 97.15 from last season). He would get significantly more shots up (more open 3 pointers than contested long 2 pointers) in today's NBA.
Dirk gave KG and Duncan fits when they had to guard him. Thanks for showing us that in this video. One of the greatest players of all time. Sad to see my childhood stars retire recently (Dirk, Wade, Manu, Pierce, Kobe, KG, Duncan, etc.). All we have left is Vince Carter from the 90s.
So many memories I seen this entire career and you showed me things I had forgotten ...appreciate you sharing this so everyone can see dirk was so much more then just a shooter a true winner
Wade was better... it took Dirk a while to really get some heart and and he played with great players and had great teams.. wade was ready from the jump.. plus was was a better facilitator and defender and he played bigger than dirk stood at seven feet.. all that being said.. dirk still the man
KD modeled a lot of his game after Dirk. KD once said "Dirk is a little bit more special to me when it comes to players I admire and look up to compared to some other guys that retired" and that Dirk was "who I want to try and be like."
People say Porzingis will be the next Dirk, but Porzingis is 4-5 two-way player while young Dirk was 3-4. Young Dirk might be one of the elite wing players if he played in today's NBA. He was an incredible playmaker as a wingman.
Bruh, you forgot to include his highlights against Portland in 2003. He cooked Scottie Pippen, Rashad Wallace (who's not being honest and always discredit him) and just outrun everybody. Boy was he something else in that series. 🔥
Great work man!!! if there would be a download or blu ray of his best games (season and playoffs) I would definitely buy that! Prime Dirk was just sick. You xould argue if there was anybodx outside Jordan, Kobe and Bird hit sooooo many tough shots. Just count the how many times you here the espn guys say stuff like ridiculous shot/tough shot/off balance etc. Unbelievable! @Panda Hank: any source or RUclips link where you find full pre- 2010 Maverick games online? The NBA app just goes back to 2012 unfortunately.
"akzepihC boB" has some full Mavs games from the 2000's (most of them are playoff games). I have some old Mavs games from pre-2010 as well. I will be uploading more game highlights from former players so subscribe to my channel if you're interested!
For someone who is not "athletic" by popular standards, he has a unique way of torching great defenders: KG Marion Duncan Tayshaun Prince Ben Wallace Duncan Gerald Wallace LeBron Durant Wade Haslem Rasheed Granted that he was swept back in '07, he came back as a more complete player after that. So when before smaller, athletic wings like Posey brings problems, he changed his style and became more post-centric (see his series against Denver and OKC)
Dirk used to tear that net up! I hate that bad series to GS and some injuries gave him a soft label. Sports analyst can suck sometime running a narrative. You don't get 30,000 in the NBA being soft. Not in that era against those players. I wish Nash had stayed. I still feel neither saw the success comparable to what could have been

I will watch 18 minutes of low-def video for only one man. Dirk.
I apologize for the low-def clips. Most of the games before 2009 had low resolution.

He couldn’t be guarded by draymond at any point in his career 🤣

This a dope video. I never seen a lot of these highlights and I'm a big Nowitzki fan. Dirk was different

Facing the rim for his first 10 years

Thank you so much! That's very kind of you! Glad you enjoyed it! Please check out Part 2, 3, and 4 if you haven't :)
What makes me sick is when people put players like wade in front of Dirk. No way was wade better. Dirk is so underrated. He's top 15 of all time
