She's at the camp because she wants to be a sort of "mediator" between her people and the colonists.
That's the reason why she's learning English with (her future husband) John Rolfe.
This wonderful very young actress is Q'orianka Kilcher and she was only 14 years old during the filming of the movie !
What about him? He left her and pretended to be dead. He didn't deserve her. Rolfe was amazingly kind, she did well to stay with him.
For all this time I've always disliked Rolfe and wanted her to end up with Smith. But after seeing this I don't know what to think anymore. Christian Bale did an awesome job playing Rolfe, and I think I like him better than John Smith now.

The Disney movie was just a fairy tale......
John Smith (Colin Farrel)is not a Prince charming at all and leave behind him Poca without any explanations.
So then, it's John Rolfe (Christian Bale) who replace him as her official (and real) husband !
Which is better than Disney's movie. But the story is still not correct. According to our laws and culture at the time and some of those laws are still prevalent.
