    An another excellent video! There’s another really good reason to bite down on your mouthpiece. The hinge of the jaw is a little joint called the TMJ or temporal mandibular joint. It’s not a robust joint and if you get hit on the jaw a lot and you aren’t biting down on the mouthpiece, you’ll stress the jaw and damage the joint. One of endpoints of TMJ damage is arthritis in the jaw. So if you want to be able to chew your food without lots of pain when you’re 60, it’s a really good idea to bite down on the mouthpiece. It’ll lock the jaw in place and when you do inevitably get hit, the stress isn’t on the TMJ.

      I would NOT call anything about his style “the basics” lmfaooo… for started he has over 320+ PRO fights… EVERY coach will teach you to NOT eat shots… he disregards reach disadvantage (ie: wait for opponent commitment , throw shot inside & back out) … he is actually quite QUITE unorthodox… I’d say Y2K is more along the lines you mentioned lol..

    To technically analyze Rodtang’s shuffle sweep, look up “De Ashi Barai”, which sits in the “ashiwaza” or foot throw family of Judo throws. These translate very effectively to Muay Thai and MMA because they can be adapted to an over/under clinch, and They are some of the lowest risk throws to perform, but come at the price of learning the most timing and finesse. If performed correctly, they should involve minimal strength from the thrower, as you are simply misdirecting then sweeping out a basing leg. Rodtang shuffles, they follow, he sweeps. Some other notables are “Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi”, “Ouchi Gari” and “Kouchi Gari”. ✌️

    • @steamboatwilly
      @steamboatwilly Год назад

      Came here to say the same thing about okuri ashi, started judo recently, I didn't actually make the connection between sasae and another sweep I was taught in Thailand, but you're definitely right there too.

      @@GabrielVargaOfficial my man! 🔥 I'm wanting to train more, but my gym isn't very consistent and doesn't really do enough muay thai. There's not really any other options close by. Any suggestions? Can i get better on my own?

    • @asdfasdf-ob7mo
      @asdfasdf-ob7mo 3 года назад

      @@GridIndustries definitely bro! Ofc i'm nowhere near the level of the man you were asking this in the first place, but after almost 20 years of practicing different martial arts (some years practicing a whole lot, others rly not that much, but prolly never spent a week without throwing the occasional dollyo- into yeop- or dwi-chagi or a 1-2-smash combo when i wasn't really injured) i can tell you that, even though there's obviously no replacement for a gym, a coach and a training/sparring partner, a lot of my personal "a-ha" moments came from practicing on my own. Allowing myself to kind of "play around" with my techniques, without worrying about doing something exactly the way i thought i was supposed to do it really helped me realize all kinds of different flaws in my techniques that nobody pointed out to me before. This went kind of hand in hand with developing the ability to visualize an opponent while shadowboxing and helped me to grasp that a seemingly "perfectly executed" technique wasn't worth shit if i failed to use it in the right context, and even later than that i realized that this whole context thing was way way deeper than i thought it to be before. Like, maybe this really powerful feeling hook i just failed to land on my imaginary opponent could give me a bigger advantage in a fight than a not so powerful one that would've landed? Also, how many ways were there to make it work the first time throwing it against a certain guy? Maybe you see what im trying to get at, this whole "there's levels to this" we always hear, where "at first a kick is just a kick, but then a kick's no longer just a kick, but some years down the line a kick is once again just that - a kick". And the levels are just endless man, eeeasily over 9000 of them iykwim ;D To me, that's really the beauty of it. I've layed awake in bed for countless hours throughout the years, imagining different scenarios, and for each one of them you could come up with a myriad of ways to deal with them, and all of em at least slightly different from mine. There's just no way to go through all of them. So i guess our best bet really is to try and be water, flowing and crashing as needed. Being hard to read, and hard to hit in a way that hurts us, playing the mindgame in a way that sets us one step ahead of the other guy, whatever that means. But we'll never get there if we don't take the time to reflect on these things in the context of our own personal skillset, and then act on it. Man I could really ramble on about this for days, not even sorry about it :D Put in some solo time, it might feel like it doesn't really get you anywhere at first without the guidance of trainer, but the longer you're into it, the more everything kind of falls into place yknow. Just be real with yourself and you'll always make progress. Godspeed brother, wish you all the best on your journey.
      TL;DR Yes.

    Great spottet; Mike Tyson does the same, dropping and hiding and twisting the head off the centerline.

    1. Left hook head drop
    2. Ability to absorb shots, bite down on guard and train the neck
    3. Opponents never feel safe, hits back
    4. Shuffle sweep, moves and scissors throw
    Bonus. Calls opponent into battle, fear
    5. Basic head movement, head goes straight back

    Would it be a good idea to work the occasional front kick into these pull evasions (tip 5)?

    • @michealtm
      @michealtm 3 года назад +2

      If you're evading a punch, then your opponent is usually pretty close to you, and front kicking a close opponent results in you pushing yourself back instead of pushing him back. Now add that to the fact that you're leaning back for the evade, and you will fall on the ground. So no, don't lean back away from a punch and front kick, you will fall on your rear basically. Now if your opponent is a good distance away, and you lean back slightly with your front kick, then that is not a big issue. Almost everyone slightly leans back with some front kicks. I know I'm not the man himself, but I have been doing Muay Thai for 14 years and teaching it for 3 years, I hope this advice helps you out.
