So sweet, that you asked John to pick out a fabric for your dress.
It’s not fair that one woman has all this talent.love ya
@@judyhaney6083 and beauty.
Amen!

@@judyhaney6083 🤣
love it that she is sharing with us.
Oh my, your talent is outstanding. You are the sweetest person Mary! May God always be with you and your family.
Love your videos.. my grandma taught me to sew without a pattern when I was 12yrs old in 1968. That started my life of sew. Also made my daughter's prom dress ❤
That is so wonderful ! What a treasured memory and skill for you ! 🌿
Same here! My only grand parent was my Grammy. She taught me how to sew without a pattern and garden, even refinish furniture the summer I stayed with her as I was turning twelve that summer. All has come in handy and I’m going to be 67 in two days. At 18, I sewed my twin girls all their clothes without patterns, thanks to my Grammy. ❤
That is a true gift!! I would love to see more of that especially today.
Fab idea, thank you for sharing……you have a new subscriber! Keep cool.
Both dresses are so pretty on you!👏 Simple, flattering & timeless style too with the fabrics you chose.
This is precious Mary!❤..My grandmas name was also Mary and she was a union Seamstress in St. Louis..she sewed in very hot conditions sewing wool in the summer..and sewing parachutes for the world war 2 soliders❤yes I’m proud!..so thanks for this video god bless🙏🏼🇮🇹
That looks so comfortable and what a great idea using gift wrap paper to create a pattern. I especially like the contrast piece, the stripes in opposite direction, at the neckline and sleeves. Those weights certainly speed up the cutting out process, without endless pinning! It looks lovely on you, blue is your colour!
Beautiful dresses. I don’t sew anymore but 35 years ago out of necessity I sewed t-shirts, pants, shorts and skirts for our two little girls from free knit fabric my mom gave me and I used clothing pieces that fit them to cut out my fabric pieces. I just needed to buy elastic and matching thread. And the most amazing thing was the clothes fit them and saved money we could not afford to spend at the time. That time in our lives was sometimes difficult but I look back on it fondly because we made do with what we had. Gifts were hand made too. All good memories.
I love your “random” videos. Always look forward to “what’s next”. You are a Blessing to me.😎
Me too! It keeps it interesting and we get to learn about more things.
I've been making similar dresses for years but I added pockets, gotta have my pockets 😊
Pockets are a game changer, they make everything better!
You have an abundance of talent. Thanks for sharing it with us. The dresses are beautiful.
You are so handy! Love it that family members are not afraid to pop up on the videos, it seems natural for a home and family-based business.
I’m thrilled about the sewing! Thank you! Sewing is badly neglected in all these podcasts you see everyday. Yours is not a how to sew but ideas if you already see and clothes that help us look nicer than the usual way women look around the house is so welcomed.
i so agree !! i am heavier but love dressing nice and even a piece of jewelry or so. My husband appreciates it.
Mary, is there anything you CANT do? I'd love to know LOL. You are so talented, your mom obviously taught you well. This generation could definitely learn from that.
I love your blue dress - better than what you can find at Macy’s.
The blue and white dress is just so cute!
What a terrific video ~ I’m a veteran sewer, DIYer, upcycler yet you just gave me the most valuable tip in years. Thank you, Mary. I truly love your videos and try not to miss a single one !!!
I love the dress idea!! Nothing better than a dress I can slip in to and then run errands, shop, or meet a friend for lunch. Cute idea!!
You are so talented and gifted... "Hey! Let's sew a dress and whip it up in no time!"... You make it all look so easy! What a fantastic idea, especially for cool, summer, at home dresses...that striped one looks so cozy !
The dresses look so comfortable and cute! You look so pretty in them! Love the idea of using gift wrap to trace a pattern! ❤🪴🌞
Thanks for sharing!
This is THE BEST tutorial I’ve watched on this subject. Thank you for sharing.
One of the things that makes it great is the combination between soft music and your spoken instructions. If the music is raucous or repetitive I want to turn the sound off. Usually this means I have to go back and forth so I can hear the instructions. Fading the music out while you’re speaking allows me to hear all of your words.
As far as the actual instructions go, wow! They are simple yet complete. I think that anyone who has sewn anything could follow this tutorial, even a beginner.
You look fabulous in your new dresss! Talented lady.
Mary, both dresses look comfortable. I, myself, like dresses with full skirts, and pockets. My grandma made costumes for the Mardi gras for 19 years, in the 50's and 60's. She would send all the scrap material to my mom, and she would either make us girls dresses, or she'd make beautiful quilts. Thank you Mary, for sharing your talent.
That’s so sweet that you ask your hubby to pick out the material for your dress.
I ask my husband if he like a dress before I buy it, he’s opinion means a lot to me!
Both of the dresses look really nice on you! Good job
God bless
Oh your dress turned out lovely ! I love that fabric choice too !
Would you believe I’ve been sewing up a new dress and struggling with the sleeve , watching you helped me so great timing ! 😃👏🌿🌸 Lord bless you Mary , you bring the world so much joy !
Simple patterns are a good idea especially for beginners. They help them gain confidence in the process. Your design suits you to a "tee"😊
Yes,it really can be that simple! The dresses look great. I especially love the blue one. The only thing I would change is to add pockets. Gotta have pockets.
YEEESSSSSS! Even an ugly dress is redeemable if it has pockets! 😂
I honestly think you could do absolutely anything! I love both of your dresses! They look so comfortable!❤️❤️❤️
I'm thinking you dont need to apologize for having a sewing video and promising to get back to your trash to treasure videos. All of your videos are inspiring and a variety is not only helpful but interesting. My mother made patterns and clothing as you've done, using newspaper for the pattern. Thanks for stirring up fond memories. I love your videos.
Mary you have been blessed with so many talents! I have only been watching your videos a few months and you have quickly become my favorite! You're so kind-hearted but a little hard on yourself. Don't apologize for the videos being diverse ....I like that. 😀
Love the dresses specially the striped one. The detail at the neck and sleeves look fabulous. Hope you have a wonderful vacation! Travel safely.
Both dresses turned out great! I haven't made a dress in years!
I used to make my own patterns and make my clothes. My aunt taught me how to Sew and I used butter knives to lay on the pattern to hold the pattern in place as I was sewing. This video brought back some good memories for me. Thank you.
Being a professional seamstress, I really enjoyed your video! Beautiful dresses!
I have been looking for a simple shift pattern/tutorial off and on for about two years without success. Thank you sooo much! 😊
I bought three dresses like this from Banana Republic several years ago, and love them. They are beautifully made with really nice fabric, but I know I could make them so much cheaper. Now I can just use the dresses to make a pattern!!
Those dresses look great on you! Sewing is almost a lost art these days. Hope you and your family enjoy getting away and relaxing.
Mary, you can do absolutely anything! The dress turned out so cute! You look good in blue. Kudos to John!!!
❤your projects and videos!❤
Ok, going to the attic and going to blow the dust off of my very old sewing machine and giving this a try, I LOVE IT!!! I especially love the way you did the contrasting pattern on the neckline and sleeves of the blue and white dress!!
Спасибо за мастер-класс! У нас в России про таких людей говорят "золотые руки"!
What a great saying Golden Hands I love that
My daughter calls her sister The Golden Child because she has such empathy and compassion for people
Mary, you always impress me. God certainly blesses you with ingenuity. Love your show. You never disappoint.
I'm SEW impressed with the dresses! I used to sew my clothes when I was in college, so I think, since I'm older and having a really difficult time finding decent looking dresses, that this is a GREAT alternative. If it turns out, I already have plans for sprucing it up and making it even look a little designer-like!
That blue stripe dress looks so lovely on you, the colour really suits you.
I love dresses like that for summer, so comfortable and easy to wear.
I do this too! I love 't-shirt dresses', as they are SO comfortable and stretchy. I don't do the neckline binding, but make regular facings. Bindings can be tricky with stretchy fabric. Thanks for sharing!
I loved it! I like to sew but have never made a garment. I’ve just made curtains and pillows. You’ve inspired me!
I love them. They look adorable on you!
Beautiful dresses, Mary!!
I like that your videos cover all different areas of home life. I learn so much from you and find your videos relaxing as well.
Beautiful dresses. You make it look so easy. TFS
Beautiful color on you! Have a great vacation. Looks so pretty on you!
Very cute. Love it.
Wow! I am so impressed with how easily you made your pattern and how nice your dresses look. I'm thinking that for myself something similar would make an ideal nightgown. Now I'm not saying that I think yours looks like a nightgown...I'm just running with your idea!
Gorgeous Mary! I hope you enjoy your vacation and the teal color is magnificent.
Love the dresses ! John made a good pick with the blue one !
I notice that the inlay for the neckline of the blue dress has verticle strips while the strip on the dress is horizontal. That is brillant!
I really like to see all your craftiness, regardless of what it is. Thank you for sharing
Mary, you could have your own clothing line...you are a marvel!!!
Love your dresses, I learned to sew when I was a teenager and have made many different pieces. I love the way you did your pattern and sewing sleeves.
I really love to see but haven’t done it in YEARS! This might be the inspiration to start. Dresses in the summer work better for me than shorts, so I think we’re onto something here 😊
Same! I really hate shorts - Louisiana heat and humidity is ridiculous so I have always preferred dresses in the summer!
You're one clever, blessed woman! Luv the dress.
My late mother constructed her own patterns for all clothing. My sister and I had to help her. We were 4 and 6 years old. My mathematics teachers always complimented me on my amazing geometry skills.
Hi Mary yes it's been hot and very humid since beginning of June we really haven't had rain I haven't cut grass in month love video. God bless you 🙏 loves ❤
I love this video. The only thing I would do differently is maybe add pockets. I love pockets. The blue striped one is my favorite. You have such a cute figure. Thank you so much for sharing!
Mary you did an exceptional job on your two dresses! Wow that brings back so many memories of my mom and her best friend; aunt Evelyn, was a phenomenal seamstress. You amaze me! Thanks for sharing your life!!! We love watching you guys!

The dresses are a wonderful idea for this heat. So cute!❤
I agree with you. The blue one is so pretty and very summery.
I will definitely add this to the list of things I want to make. These were both cute but I like the blue stripe best!
I can't sew, but own 2 sewing machines (one is my mom's old machine, and one I bought in my 20s and never used; I'm 60 now). This is an awesome idea and I could even see me me hand stitching something like this just to sit around in during the summer. My mom used to do stuff like this, she and my grandmother with no pattern or using brown paper to make the pattern. You've brought back great memories and I think it's time to maybe pull at least one of those machines out and get started sewing. Love the dresses; especially the striped one.
It’s never too late to learn and so rewarding! You can do it!!!💞
Both dresses are beautiful . I made my wedding dress and bridesmaid many moons ago . Still love sewing .Always love your videos ❤
Fantastic! I have made costumes for school plays without a pattern and now I make them for grandkids. I love your method to determine size using pieces that you like the fit. Great work
Those cute dresses sre just right.... thanks for the lesson. And your "random" videos seem to fit with the many random projects we all aim to tackle each summer.....trying to fit as much as possible into a too-short season for those of us in the northern US.
Greetings from Vermont.
I will try making that dress looks beautiful. Love the mix of videos including cooking and baking.
Mary, wow! Another great video. I enjoy sewing. My mom taught all her five daughters from a very young age to sew. It’s so relaxing. You are a woman of many talents and you’re such a hard worker. I admire you and enjoy watching your videos. I love both dresses. You look really good in the blue one. Many Blessings to you and your family.
Love the dresses, they look so sweet on you. Thanks for putting a smile on my face. Enjoy your videos every time you post them. Take care. Faye (Ohio)
You are amazing. The dresses came out so pretty. Your talents have no end.
Love the simple dress!! It looks so wonderful on you!!
Talent, talent, talent. You're one of a kind. 👏👏👏
My Mom made my prom dress in 1970. It turned out lovey!!!😊❤
You look so cute in that dress Mary.
You are definitely a kindred spirit with your do-it-yourself ways!!
Mary, your dresses are lovely. We call them ‘shift dress’ in the UK and they look look so easy. I am not a dressmaker by a long shot, I even hate sewing on a button, but will definitely have a go at these.
Everything you show us is just so inspiring.
Mary this reminds of my childhood(50’s and 60’s). Made our own clothes used simplicity patterns. There were 4 girls and 4 boys. One of my sisters and I have always teased we grew up Amish and didn’t know it. Love your videos. Staying at one of the cottages is on my bucket list.
Blue striped dress is really cute. Ohio here, too. The humidity is bad. Thanks for sharing your process.
Best example of Proverbs 31-10 is you Mary!🌷
Very cute and simple, the striped one was your style. I bought a stretchy dress on Amazon that I liked and I cut around it and have made three more.
I love them, Mary! I need pockets, though. But they should be easy enough to add. Love this channel!❤❤❤
Mary, thank you for this tutorial. I have a couple of these simple dresses and I'm loving them. I never thought to make my own. Great timing. Have fun wearing your new wardrobe on your vacation. Sending blessings! ~Debi in Ohio
P.S. - In a video a couple of years ago, you took us on a thrifting adventure in Holmes County. Later in the video you told us that you would leave a list thrift stores in your comment. Dumb me did not make a copy of the places. I want to make a day of coming down from Portage County with my friend to thrift. Who knows I may come across your own thrifting. If you could find it I would greatly appreciate it. -❤-
Oh my goodness Mary is there anything you can't do. 😊❤ You are so blessed with many, many talents 😊 wish I had just a little bit of your talent lol ❤ I love everything you do all of your projects turn out so beautifully 😍 you are a such a joy to watch and an inspiration ❤️ although I could never sew. I've tried it many times even watched my mom but just could never get the hang of it, especially in making clothing. Some Crafty things I sewed but that's it. You all have a wonderful and safe vacation ❤️ thank you for sharing all your idea's with us. God bless you and your sweet family ❤️ 😊
The dresses are beautiful and your talent just blows me away. Thank you for all your videos. You have to be my favorite channel ❤
Most definitely I would like to try to make a dress for myself. Thank you for showing me how to get started.
Love the dresses and the Fabric Hubster picked suits you as well. Awesome job, simple is best. x
Very cute I really like the blue one blue and white striped one you're very talented and creative
Beautiful! Sewing is such a great skill. I haven't sewn in years, but I plan to again. Loose summer dresses are my favorite too!
I really like how you changed the fabric around for the neck and sleeves of the blue striped material. I used to make those dresses when I was in high school, using knit ribbing on the neck and sleeves. You always take me back to my younger days Mary. Thank you!
Love the simplicity of the dress
I love it! I remember watching my grandma make a smocked dress this way (paperless) for my baby cousin back in the 60s and was amazed.
I wish and way back when they still had home-ec that they had taught sewing a garment like this. Having a myriad of tissue paper pieces never made sense to me. But if we could've started likes you did, it would have clicked.
Everyone learns differently 😁 so I give myself grace. I'm saving this for when I feel brave enough to try again 🫶🏼
God bless you as you have blessed us 🤍🕊️
Mary the dresses are beautiful just like you I love watching your videos. I love that you are simple and down to earth God bless you all❤
I love the waistless dresses too! Wish I could sew.
Love that you shared the pattern making process. I want to try!!!
