  • This vintage Jaeger chronograph watch was a big challenge that tested my restoration skills. I bought this watch as a non runner but I could not guess it would have so many things wrong inside this watch. I had to repair and source a lot of parts to get this beautiful vintage Jaeger watch back to life. Hope you will enjoy this restoration

Tremendous, well done and how lucky to be able to obtain spares for this model. Took a Jaeger 7 jewel car clock out of my brothers 1938 Fiat 500 Topolino in the early '60's. What a beautiful watch! I personally love the engineering, skill and thought that goes into putting a watch together. In particular with older watches, it amazes me that even without power tools back in the early days, they were able to create accurate, delicate wheels, pinions a springs that all come together to create a small piece of history that, with care and maintenance, can be passed down through the generations. Art and Engineering working together perfectly, all while the wearer has probably never seen the inside where the magic and fantastic craftsmanship takes place! Wristwatches combine, artistry, design, mechanical precision and functionality- at their most elaborate state they are also jewelry. For me they are also a personal statement - the „robots“ of present have their individuality with smart watches - mechanical watches say everything about the type of person the wearer is.

Well done and lovely watch, was worth the restoration. They do not do such quality movements anymore.

Very well done. I really would like to do an old lecoultre project as well, but it is extremely hard to find good objects for restauration in my budget lately. I love about watches, that even after 100 years, with the right touch, a good mechanical watch can come back to life and work just like it has when it was produced. you don't find that in many things anymore.

Very nice work, just some advices you can remove the brown/ black stains on plate and bridges with brasso or silvo and a smooth toothbrush then a deep clean to remove it. And I use to put the base movement on timegrapher to be sure if there something wrong at the end that is not the base movement but the complication.

Thanks for the tip. I put the movement on the timegrapher after assembling the base movement. I just don’t show it in the video. I will try the product next time

Wow that was really a Masterclass in watchmaking! Thanks for sharing your skills and experience. The watch has a lot of character and it was good saving it, repairing it. I found it interesting to see a UG movement in the watchmakers-watchmaker-watch…😅 I wonder how long that project took you and I guess the more one works on a watch the stronger is the emotional binding, right? Really great watch and great taste…I have a similar Landeron chronograph 😊

Thank you so much for this very nice comment. It took me a month to restore this watch but what take time is looking for the parts and waiting to receive them. You are that you probably develop something special with a difficult project that comes out great

If that poor Jaeger was ever serviced... it had to have been years and years ago by looking at the plate wear. Sometimes I think people don't realize that if something is mechanical, it requires service at some point... like a car (and these watches have a purchase price tag on par with a car). I'm happy we have modern synthetic oils that change services from what used to be 5-7 yr intervals to to 10-12+.

I think it was not service for a long time. It should be good now for few years
