My Father met Jimi at Madison Square Garden in 1969. The entire encounter probably lasted 15 seconds. He shook my Dad’s hand and my Dad said he was very humble, had huge long thin fingers, smiled at my Dad and less than a year later he was gone. RIP Jimi.
Jimi showed respect to those he learned from Buddy, BB and even Mike Bloomfield. He never tried to show them up like he did others (Clapton). Although he didn't mean any disrespect he just wanted to show them how good he was. They knew.
Jimi Hendrix was the most inspirational guitarist to have ever lived. Beyond words and music, it was pure emotion. You dont listen to Jimi you feel it.

It's nice to see Buddy looking so good and in good shape. I remember seeing him out on Yonge St. in Toronto back in the 70s. He used to come to Toronto quite often and I saw him and Junior Wells at the Brunswick House back then. He was a very cool dude and, at the time probably in the top two or three electric players in the world. The man has a PhD. in the blues.
He played near my town a few years back, & I was blown away. First off, his band was incredible by themselves, & he walked out & all around in the crowd, even up to the top of the bleacher seats I was sitting in, all the while playing brilliantly. Never seen anything like that live. I respect & appreciate the Hell out of blues music, but I don't listen often to it, but Buddy's blues are an exception, he's one of a relative few that can truly make his guitar sing or cry like it's a living, breathing organism. Again, I was mesmerized watching & listening to him play.
@Joshua Dowling waiting on the train...your right! Absolutely the best of the blues. But then especially on the rehearsal tracks Jimi really didn't want you to hear he unleashes some of the best hard rock soloing ever done. Still make my hair on my back stand up every time.
Buddy and B.B. are men that have pioneered a genre that is just as familiar sounding, as it is riveting. These are the true kings of the blues and I can only imagine Jimi's adoration when he met them. B.B met him at a time where Jimi was so shy and quiet. "He didn't drink or smoke then." People always thought of Hendrix as this wild man but that was him performing. Not long prior to Buddy meeting him, he had been the back up band member who didn't even have the courage to sing. If you get the chance to see Buddy Guy live you won't be disappointed he puts on a hell of a show and he sings and plays the most wailing blues you've heard
Your dad was very honoured . I was only 9 years old when he left us . I was introduced to his music when I was 18 years old and followed him ever since
Yes, I was lucky enough to be a young lad and my Dad took me down to Olympic Studios in Barnes. Met Jimi there and had a short but nice chat with him and he was such a nice guy. Shame later on my Dad who was also friends with Charlie Watkins (WEM) saw him with Jimi but I never got there.

I remember thinking I had a handle on the blues until I saw B.B. play live in 1997. I realized I was completely out of my depth, the tone and soul he had coming from Lucille and a single Combo amp mic'd into the house P.A. was staggering. B.B. was pure genius - unmatched.
I once heard an old blues man say: "It gotta be in ya before it can come outta ya." They were a product of everything they experienced and everything they learned. This world may spin around a billion more years, but it won't ever come back by this spot. Treasure what we were privileged to have.
I saw Buddy performing live here in Uruguay one time and I would like to thank him for that show. Mindblowing, player and singer as well, such a nice person, he walk of stage with a wireless guitar and stand surounded by the expectators ...incredible experience, what a musician. Thank you Buddy.
I met and interviewed BB in the 1970's, and have seen Buddy play live, but never got the chance to see Jimi play in concert. I was certain that I would eventually get to see Jimi play live, and then he was gone. RIP to both men.

Buddy Guy, What a true gentleman! Love the way he kicks back and encourages B.B. to keep on talking, with a little , yes, um hm, A couple of class acts right there. Great upload. Thanks.
I always thought Buddy carried on the Jimi Hendrix torch for blues, the way he approaches it. I imagine if Jimi were still around, he'd be sounding a lot like Buddy Guy.
George "Buddy" Guy (born July 30, 1936) is an American blues guitarist and singer. Riley B. King (September 16, 1925 - May 14, 2015), known professionally as B.B. King, was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. King introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending and shimmering vibrato that influenced many later blues electric guitar players.
I've love BB King. and if him and my husband was to stand side-by-side they could pass as twins my husband wasn't musician also! he was a drummer for almost 40 some years. Before he passed. he did he loved BB King just as well. so I know both of them are out there having a good time playing music LOL!!!!!!
BB said that he never spoke to Jimi again after meeting him that one time in Mobile while Jimi was playing in Little Richard's band. He must have forgotten that they jammed together at place in NYC in 1968 called The Generation Club with Paul Butterfield's band. There are recordings of it. BB King introduces the guys that were playing, they did some covers and jammed on the blues for over an hour.
Both BB and Buddy liked him and said he was a nice guy. I keep reading and hearing that Hendrix was actually a very quiet and respectful man. He is my favorite. I also have a strong love for SRV and Trower. There are many many talented guitar pickers.
I always tell this story about Buddy Guy. I was bar hopping Rush street in Chicago. If you've ever been there, you know what i'm talking about. I ended up in this little club, at the bar, next to this black guy. I commented how he looked like Buddy Guy, and he smiled and said "Yeah, I get that alot" I said "well, anyone who looks like him I will buy a drink" And I did. We talked, and five minutes later, he got up from his break, went back up on stage and finished his set. It WAS Buddy! lol

I met Jimi on March 15th, 1968. (yes, "The Ides of March!!!) I was barley legal...just turned 18. We continued our friendship beyond that night. I was hanging with him when he did that HUGE memorial jam for Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. at The Generation Club in Greenwich Village, NYC. He told me about Buddy at that time, but I'm sure if he had met him yet...only that if I wanted to get into the blues (and I did) that Buddy Guy was someone I should listen to....
Wow to share the same air with a legend like that is something but to be friends with one is a whole other thing. Do you have any other stories that you remember from those days?

These guys have so much music history between them. Real history from when the genuine talent emerged in the US. To have been alive and attending the venues these guys worked in must have been a real highlight. Remembering that for the black man, at that time, there weren't many highlights in white america. Love and Peace and Light and Music. ✌️
I saw Buddy at Steve Paul's Scene in "The Village." It's the club Buddy talks about in this interview. I'll never forget...Buddy had his guitar resting on the pipes in the ceiling and was playing with it with just his left hand...hammering on the strings...AMAZING!
I was astonished to hear the King talk. I'm so used to his guitar doing the talking for him, and as soon as I heard his voice here, I just said "the man's human".
I got to see him in Atlantic City, NJ in 2004, and in Lansing, MI in 2006. He was totally awesome both times. He ran through the audience both times with a wireless pick-up on his guitar as he jammed and improvised!
This is so awesome. It's great because because these guys have no pretense. They just are who they are and it's amazing because they are being themselves but theyn have these awesome stories about Jimi and Ike Turner and all these people. They have been around the block. It blows my mind that the scene was so locked together that everbody knew each other.
I was lucky enough to tour supporting BB and Buddy. So I got to meet and talk with them. BB is so sweet and gracious... Buddy 'l cutcha(we joked)... If only I coulda met Jimi. 2 outta these three aint bad...
Just priceless the gr8ts talking about the greatest so glad to have grown up in the sixties and in motown and lived his music just magical. Was around guitars who thought they could copy his style that was the challenge in those days they would play Hendrix, Dennis Coffey, and the Motown gr8t musicians The Funk Bros. Those were gr8t times I thought it would b like that always n forever WOW what a surprise.
2:37 B.B. says he asked Jimi when he realized Jimi was a lefty, "Why didn't you change the strings?" B.B. must have been confused between Jimi and Albert King because Albert King who was also a lefty was the one who dIdn't change the strings from right handed to left handed. Jimi did change the strings.
@God Love he could play it with the strings upside down. That's how he originally learnt it was only later that he did switch the strings around, here's a video with rolling stones n him picking up a strung up righty guitar flipping it and playing just fine. ruclips.net/video/Rqqaw9iN0Js/видео.html

BB King is a freak of nature. The guy has to be around 80 in this video and he's as sharp as someone 50 years younger.
I was thinking the same thing too.
Buddy, too! he would have been, what, 73 here? and he's very sharp as well. it's a bit impressive, the both of them.
Years of good living!
Except for the part where he forgot which way round a left-handed guy would hold a guitar, that was a funny little lapse.

Love how B.B king double checks which way a left handed guitar is held 🤣
I saw Buddy at Steve Paul's Scene in "The Village." It's the club Buddy talks about in this interview. I'll never forget...Buddy had his guitar resting on the pipes in the ceiling and was playing with it with just his left hand...hammering on the strings...AMAZING!
Legendary Awesomeness!
Thank You ; )
I was astonished to hear the King talk. I'm so used to his guitar doing the talking for him, and as soon as I heard his voice here, I just said "the man's human".
Buddy Guy looks about 30 years younger than his actual age...
I got to see him in Atlantic City, NJ in 2004, and in Lansing, MI in 2006. He was totally awesome both times. He ran through the audience both times with a wireless pick-up on his guitar as he jammed and improvised!
Ojalá y lo tradujeran al español, soy fan de estos monstruos del Blues.
B.B. king and buddy guy, the best music duo ever
Buddy Guy performing "Stormy Monday" April 7th 1968 plus a jam with Jimi Hendrix
This is so awesome. It's great because because these guys have no pretense. They just are who they are and it's amazing because they are being themselves but theyn have these awesome stories about Jimi and Ike Turner and all these people. They have been around the block. It blows my mind that the scene was so locked together that everbody knew each other.
lol "Be cool dude!"
I was lucky enough to tour supporting BB and Buddy. So I got to meet and talk with them. BB is so sweet and gracious... Buddy 'l cutcha(we joked)... If only I coulda met Jimi. 2 outta these three aint bad...
Encontro épico! Gostaria muito de ver ou ouvir alguma gravação!
2:37 B.B. says he asked Jimi when he realized Jimi was a lefty, "Why didn't you change the strings?"
B.B. must have been confused between Jimi and Albert King because Albert King who was also a lefty was the one who dIdn't change the strings from right handed to left handed.

There can't be many bigger tributes to Jimi than these legends talking about him.
