  • The last C-5B Galaxy finished major ISO and departed Dover AFB on its second to last flight. It went home to Westover where it will be flown one final time to Lockheed Georgia for RERP~Reliability Enhancement and Re-Engining Program~ to be converted into a C-5M Super Galaxy. This video marks the final the final time a C-5B will be at Dover, or anywhere else for that matter with the exception of its home station of Westover ARB, MA. When 7043 makes her final flight next week, it will become the 52nd and final Super Galaxy. 5 C-5A Galaxy aircraft are still in service at Westover, still powered by the TF-39 engine. They will be retired in September 2017, ending the sound of freedom that we hear in this video.

The C5 is a beast of an aircraft no doubt, but the sound of the old TF39 engines made it seem much more menacing.

Sitting in the programs office last week when I heard the post- iso runs I didn't know that would be the last time I ever heard the TF-39 in person. I heard engine start and they went above idle and I thought, "that sounds like a B", but I didn't know it was there. Funny part is while I was tow testing people kept trying to close the window behind me that was already closed cause it was so loud. What you expect it's a B-model

Still 5 A models left in service; 0448 stopped in last week, so there is still a chance you can hear the TF-39 here through September, I would say realistically by June thought; once Westover gets their first M model, they aren't going to be flying many A model missions anymore other than locals.

got question: when they build the M models do the build the C5 from scratch meaning through the computerized cockpit to installing the new engines.

I have a hard time identifying different versions of aircraft. If the focus of the video is a C-5B, does that make the nearby C-5's with a different set of engines C-5M Super Galaxys?
