    This points system has to be revised. The overall winner should be rewarded for his efforrts. Lappi had an over a minute lead going into Sunday. He had earned the right not to push like crazy, but rather control his lead, yet he walks away with significantly lower points than Evans? NOt OK.

      Very well said. All we’ve heard so far is “lets see how it plays out” or “they’ve made a change, they should be applauded for that”. Well now we finally have one of those situations play out where the rally winner has been properly screwed over when pushing too much could have resulted in a retirement. Like you said, Lappi has earned the right to cruise through the final (half) day after his performance up until Saturday night, so why should he push and risk more?

      With all due respect, I disagree. But honestly, I don't think there's much point in arguing over it; it's okay to have different opinions. Out of curiosity, however, how would you feel if the system were changed to "drivers get points for every stage they win"? That would be an even more drastic change.

    • @petertromp8786
      @petertromp8786 2 месяца назад

      @@jack4688 I don't mind them adding extra points for Sunday to make it more exciting; it's a good change, but I think a few revisions need to be made. In the future we might get a scenario where the overall winner was neither the fastest on the Saturday, or the Sunday, nor won the Power Stage, yet had the best time overall. Even then they should be rewarded for doing the best job over the entirety of the weekend. I think they need to award extra points for 1st to 3rd for performance over the entire weekend, so that someone who wins the event - even if they played it safe at times by managing their lead - walks away with the lion's share of the points. Also, I think retirees on Saturday should only be allowed to collect points in the Power Stage, because if they come back on Sunday, they will have more fresh tires than anyone and can optimize their attack better than someone who's had to manage their pace and resources over the entire weekend.
      Right now, I'm thinking for a win you'd get 7 extra points, for second overall 4 points and third 2 points - so that if you win Saturday, and get no points on Sunday, you still end up with 25 points.
      Whatever they decide to do, they need to sort it out as soon as possible before they damage the image of the sport further.

    • @jack4688
      @jack4688 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ikr9358 if that was the ONLY points on offer then you could possibly win the rally by winning all bar three stages, on which you crashed out 😅 If the solution has to be centred around points then overall points as before should be in addition to Sunday points, not two separate allocations. I don’t know how many points for Sunday would make it a fair system though 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Perhaps something even simpler would actually be the best solution 😉

      evans was not the driver with the shortest overall time. that's the whole point of a rally! it's in the name.
      @Rezisorss
      the issue is not the points themselves, but that drivers are taking things safe every sunday. there basically is no competition going on during sunday, because the gaps have usually become too big to make it worth taking the risk. and everyone is saving their cars and tires for the powerstage.
      the FIA wants to promote competition for sunday by doing this.
      team orders have to be banned! the rallies need to be condensed to fewer days (with same overall number of stages and length) and they should allow for the cars to be serviced and given new tires for the powerstage. the service should be shorter however, because it's only for a single stage.

    And that's it, we now have the problem of the system
    The real top 5 of the rally is Lappi, Evans, Fourmeaux, Neuville, Solberg
    But the system say "No, we dont care about what people did"
    So the top 5 based on point is Evans, Lappi, Neuville and Fourmeaux ex aequo, and Rovanpera
    Congratulation for WRC, it's probably the first time ever in motorsport than a real official winner of a race doesnt leave with the most amount of points.
    So now there is the official winner and there is the "WRC winner", the one with more points on championship.

    What a load of nonsense. Lappi wins, having created a comfortable lead for himself overnight and comes away with 5 points less than second place Evans. You could argue he should have pushed harder for more points today but why should he when he wants to secure his second career WRC win?
    There are multiple ways to win a motorsport event and we accept that one of those ways may be building a lead early on and taking fewer risks on the final stretch - there should be no penalty for that approach!
    It’s quite easy to see how a slightly more exaggerated set of circumstances than this weekend could create an even more farcical points allocation. Get rid of it, nobody asked for ‘this’
