    hearing this is a really pleasant surprise :o it's rare for a classicaly trained singer to be able to sing outside of genre without sounding, well, operish :D and she has a lovely dark timbre when singing in the lower range

    Wow, I never knew about this version at all! Very awesome. This was always one of my favourite MV songs, and this version is great too.

    I havent heard this song before and dont know anything about it. But I am blown away. No wonder she wants to sing more jazz. Just fantastic

    From a technical standpoint, she sings it far, far better than Cedric could ever hope to.
    That's not all there is to singing though, which is why we enjoy Cedric's version of it to begin with.

    She may sing better than Cedric tecnically speaking, but the song feelings are not correctly captured by her voice in this version, as it occurs in the original version, imo. As everyone that reachs this kind os musical depth in his life may know, technique is only one drop of the sea. Cedric is blessed with a beautiful, emotional voice, that even a talented, lifetime trained voice could not even reach it.

    As clean as this version is, her rhythm is waaaaaaaaaaay too on top of the beat for me to enjoy thoroughly. I keep wanting more space. Cedric's version may be sloppy as hell in terms of tone and pitch, but his timing and phrasing is boss. Just a thought. Plus the swang Cedric sings with... I've always loved it.

    @ladyvelkor There's a difference between saying that one song or one version of a song is better, and saying that one person sings it better than another.

    The mars volta version is not comparable to this version. I prefer theirs, but I would be do unspeakable things to be with this talented of a woman.

    @segdase ...we're saying that there's more to music/art than technique? :)

    First I'll say that publicity due to this album is how I discovered Renee Fleming and I'm better for it, fantastic voice. That said, this just feels so weird. I guess because when I hear the original, it's in the context of the album, which I think is about kidnapping and stockholm syndrome. From what I've heard of Dark Hope, it doesn't showcase Renee's voice well at all, she's singing out of her range and there isn't the intimacy of the original artists' recordings. At least she tries though.

    Sounds quite nice, the "in my heart" part kinda lose strenght but it's not bad at all.

    @steviesaur It's more bent than the original. Imagine that!

    You guys are insane if you think cedric sings better than her. I like mars volta A LOT, but she has a better voice.
