I also call that Whip-by "A Sadulaev" as he was the first guy who really brought it to my attention. Although later I've seen older videos of wrestlers pulling it off in high level competition.
I've tried the Sadulaev Whip-by myself a lot but can't seem to be getting it properly; the opponent's hand end up getting stuck in my armpit most of the time. I've also tried to find instructional videos about it, but so far nothing. This was actually the first (and only!) video I saw even mentioning the move.

Same here, I have difficulty using this move. And I'm hesitant to put full power into it for safety reasons.
Sadulaev cleared Snyder's underhooks easily with this, and I'm pretty sure Snyder is stronger than Sadulaev. Either Snyder (and everyone else Sadulaev has faced) knows that this move is coming and they let go of the shoulder to avoid injury, or Sadulaev has some subtle technique that dislodges the grip from his shoulder before he does the shrug.

I learned a more efficient tie-up for that V-lock in Catch wrestling class. Makes it much more secure, and works well in live sparring against resistant opponent. I've even pulled it off twice in submission wrestling tournaments.

You dont have a fireman's carry video coach. Im gonna go watch some of these other ones but if you make one I'll be there to watch it. I like how you explain stuff and the quality is also very good. I wish your gym was within a few hours of me I would go.

You showed a good bit in this video but I like to learn a lot about small details and different set ups, chains, mindsets. Anything to harden a technique. That's a lot of the reason I like these videos.

Coach, great technique selection!!! I have a question I was hoping you could answer. On the whip-by / shuck, o you have any tips on how to use it on a guy with a really strong underhook with his fingers glued to your shoulder? And do you have any concerns about the safety of this technique?
I always feel when I try to do it in a safe and controlled manner, a strong guy is able to keep his hand stuck to my shoulder which shuts this move down. On the other hand, I'm really hesitant to just explode into the move and risk spraining someone's elbow, or shoulder.
I know an international FS wrestler who has been injured by this move in competition (ie, he has the underhook, the opponent does the shuck). As a result, when he gets underhooks, he actually prefers to give up head position, as he feels the extra space helps avoid getting cranked by this move.

I've been loving your channel..from a no gi perspective what do you think of harai goshi as a wrestler..mostly in wrestling they teach a variation from double overhooks which I love but also the underhook but I haven't wrestled high lvl...just jiu jitsu so curious on your take on no gi hip throws..like single leg to harai goshi(or insert hip throw)?

I used to train Karo Parisyan a lot and he was obviously great at doing judo in nogi. I personally don't use it that much but I am familiar. So much of what I've learned is from Greco Roman that I tend to not use my legs well to accomplish my throws. (Harai would be illegal in greco) I definitely recognize the effectiveness and that's why I have a judo coach come in and teach my guys a few times a year. Harai is awesome but not my thing so I will probably be showing more greco style throws in the future. Thank you!

Most high level freestyle wrestlers have at least some kind of upper body / feet-to-back technique in their games. This aspect of wrestling has some overlap with judo from a technique perspective (wrestling has a lot more suplexes, and also a lot more throwing technique from the bodylock and front headlock), and a LOT of overlap in terms of timing, explosive direction change, etc.
That being said, the bent over stances in folkstyle and freestyle make upper body work inherently difficult. Even the best upper body wrestler isn't going to look like Ronda Rousey under those types of wrestling rules.
But if it's MMA or ADCC rules, the stances are generally going to be a lot more upright, which makes throws / trips a bigger part of the strategy. In MMA, no-gi judo concepts are a HUGE part of high level cage wrestling (think Khabib). In ADCC, they adopt a more upright posture for the sake of efficiency which opens up a lot of throws. Additionally, there is incentive to throw because under ADCC rules, because leg attacks are "easy" to defend by going out of bounds or turning away (ADCC requires you to hold them on the mat with their back facing the mat for 3 seconds; so turning away is good way to avoid the takedown points).

Try heavy sag an then head n arm. Don't throw it and sit with it to a arm triangle, or natural defense is offense. Hit a fire mans carry.

Coach Brian, I love your videos. You show a lot of technique that is interesting even to me. I'm not the best wrestler in the world, but I did wrestle NCAA divII for five years. Again, that doesn't mean I know all there is to know, but its not like I know nothing.
However, your underhook counters are very very underwhelming here (the self defense variant not included, I'm going to be trying that one before I judge it).
I'll start with the worst offender. The prybar is alright, but there is no way that you're going to be able to shoot to a back leg that the opponent just stepped back with. There is simply way too much distance to close on that shot. This example would have been significantly better if you shot an outside carry instead of an inside carry. The outside carry is there for the taking. The inside carry is not there, and that shot is going to get snuffed easily. Everything else is fine, but that inside carry is so cringy. He just stepped his forward leg back to get out of the prybar, that means that all his weight is on his new lead leg. There's no reason to shoot to the leg that has no weight on it and is a mile away. Shoot an outside carry in this situation. Sure, you probably won't be able to finish the carry, but you'll have a much better chance of finishing the attack because it gives you the ability to switch off to a single because you actually got in on a leg. If you shoot an inside carry there, then you're going to get crushed.
Now this isn't as cringe for me, but it is more fundamental. Is simply not true that underhooks are dominating. You're probably thinking "what do you mean underhooks aren't dominating, they're about controlling position!" and you'd be right, but the underhook itself does nothing. Its all the stuff you can do with an underhook that makes them threatening. You don't have to worry if someone grabs an underhook and allows you the time to do these counters. The first counter to an underhook is always to wizzar hard and not allow the underhook to jack you up. This eliminates everything. You can't throwby, you can't be snapped down because you have an angle, he can't snatch a single leg because you already have the counter to a single leg--a wizzar. You simply should never be doing any of these counters until you've established at least equal position with your overhook. An underhook is only good until they establish their overhook--which is not true in jiujitsu.
Last, there's a counter to an underhook, that I feel you should have shown that is incredibly strong. After you establish your overhook, you can square back up, and simply angle your elbow in between your bodies and end with a collar tie. Its not flashy, and its not cool, but its extremly solid and high percentage. The only time this counter doesn't work is if they've jacked you up, and at that point you've already lost.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way. Your channel is great, but there's a lot of technique in here that I think you ought to rethink.

That first technique shown at the very start feels like stalling. Where you grab the inside of the leg. I'd rather know the counter for that, as the person with the underhook. Frustrating as a BJJ guy who trains TDs a lot and people use that to straight up stall honestly.
