All you wanna do is dance, first time last, Las angelinos, everybody loves you now, running on ice, famous last words, got to begin again, stop in Nevada, traveling prayer, 52nd street, Zanzibar, you can make me free, oh and the 20 second piano mix here after the second verse is with the korg I think, is literally the greatest thing I've ever heard in my life
This hits home. My wife forced me to go to her parents house several times a week. It was always the same scene... "Bored to death on Sunday afternoons". "We all sat around in the kitchen chairs with the TV on and the neighbors there". Seriously! This pretty much went on for 27 years, until our marriage finally ended.😢
This song tells what I'm going through to a tee! Sad about leaving home yet eager for the next step in my life leaving Minnesota for Chicago. Sad but had to be done ! Hurts to say goodbye! Thats life!
I grew up on this album, his third. Actually grew up on the second, this, 4th and fifth. Piano Man, Turnstiles and the Stranger came out when I was in high school. Love early Billy, growing up on Long Island, one town over from where he grew up. He was the best back there. Thanx for posting this.
Lyrics; Flying east on a plane Drinking all that free champagne Guess I saw this coming down the line And I know it should be fun But I think I should have packed my gun Got that old suburban showdown in my mind Sit around with the folks Tell the same old tired jokes Bored to death on Sunday afternoon Mom and Dad, me and you And the outdoor barbecue Think I’m gonna hide out in my room I’ve been gone for awhile Made some changes in my style And they say you can’t go home any more Well the streets all look the same And I’ll have to play the game We’ll all sit around in the kitchen chairs With the TV on, with the neighbors there Out in the yard where my dad works so hard He never lets the crabgrass grow too high Oh, the place hasn’t changed And that’s why I’m gonna feel so strange But I have to face the music by and by I’ve been gone for awhile Made some changes in my style And they say you can’t go home any more Well the streets all look the same And I’ll have to play the game We’ll all sit around in the kitchen chairs With the TV on, with the neighbors there We drive into town When this big bird touches down I’m only coming home to say goodbye Then I’m gone with the wind And I won’t be seen again ‘Til that great suburban showdown in the sky ‘Til that great suburban showdown in the sky
The Moog synthesizer was used extensively by Billy on the Streetlife LP. By 1974, electronic music was starting to make a breakthrough in rock n roll. By the end of the decade, Moogs were basically passe, replaced by more modern keyboards.
Starting to make a breakthrough? Seriously? Led Zeppelin used one in 70 and 71, The Beatles used one on Abbey Road in 69, the Doors before them and Elton John used one in 72. The breakthrough happened at least two years before this album.
I think of this song every time my adult children come to visit and pray to God that they don't feel this way. Doesn't matter what ya do, I guess. Some things are inevitable.
Actually I’m shocked at how many people I see saying that same thing. I love All his albums but I’d put this towards the middle or even bottom of my list
generic non-famous-song comment: this song is the most underrated lyrics this is a masterpiece now here's mine: This song brings me the emotion of having dinner with my dad, playing this on TV, around 22 p.m and laughing at his trash jokes
This album was underrated, by Billy Joel, himself! He felt the pressure from the record label, to rush to market a follow-up to his huge hit, "Piano Man." It's sad that he didn't recognize his own genius, during his creative prime. Lennon & McCartney rushed out their first few albums, with a stellar percentage of classic hits. It's also true that great artists always think they could've done better, if given more time.
Brett Koeshall it was a Moog, but those were made in the 1960’s, not the 1970’s. You can prove this as The Doors used one often in the late ‘60s, and the Beatles used one for the last two minutes of the song “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”

Joel shares similarities with Elton John but Joel incorporates gospel and country into his music. It seems that his depression is reflected into his songs.
Fanatical Dueling yeah, especially on parts of the Caribou album, IMO. Well except for the awesome opening song, Ticking, Solar Prestige a Gammon, and Don’t Let the Sun go Down on Me
There are too many underrated Billy Joel songs
Couldn’t relate more to you than with this comment.
@jeff afe seethe harder lmao
Absolutely the dushe who said this is trash probably only heard the greatest hits or is like 25... well said Mario
Probably more a case of under heard than underrated and he has many hidden gems.

One of Billy's best songs here. I hear the opening lines in my head every single time I enter an airport.
Billy Joel is painting pictures in my head

How have the last 7 years treated you?
So many hidden gems .a genius simple as that.

Billy Joel knows to compose a farewell song.
Lyrics;
Flying east on a plane
Drinking all that free champagne
Guess I saw this coming down the line
And I know it should be fun
But I think I should have packed my gun
Got that old suburban showdown in my mind
Sit around with the folks
Tell the same old tired jokes
Bored to death on Sunday afternoon
Mom and Dad, me and you
And the outdoor barbecue
Think I’m gonna hide out in my room
I’ve been gone for awhile
Made some changes in my style
And they say you can’t go home any more
Well the streets all look the same
And I’ll have to play the game
We’ll all sit around in the kitchen chairs
With the TV on, with the neighbors there
Out in the yard where my dad works so hard
He never lets the crabgrass grow too high
Oh, the place hasn’t changed
And that’s why I’m gonna feel so strange
But I have to face the music by and by
I’ve been gone for awhile
Made some changes in my style
And they say you can’t go home any more
Well the streets all look the same
And I’ll have to play the game
We’ll all sit around in the kitchen chairs
With the TV on, with the neighbors there
We drive into town
When this big bird touches down
I’m only coming home to say goodbye
Then I’m gone with the wind
And I won’t be seen again
‘Til that great suburban showdown in the sky
‘Til that great suburban showdown in the sky
I really love this old Billy Joel song.

Mike Reiss gotta love the Moog on “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”.
my fav album of his. sorely underrated

Billy is unique. Pure talent. love Billy
Rosa sono tutte belle ... Ascolta anche Surprise
This song gives me chills easily top 5 billy joel song. And believe you me its not easy to make that list
the vocal melody is beautifull
It never makes anyone #1 on favorite albums (except for mine).
Actually I’m shocked at how many people I see saying that same thing. I love All his albums but I’d put this towards the middle or even bottom of my list
#2 on my list. Summer. Highland Falls is my #1

This is another amazing one from SS.

sluffed high school in a soundroom
Best class I remember
Billy's best for me - and there's some tough competition!
Tremendo tema nunca te remplazar a billy joel
I loved this song as a kid, and now im going off to college in a few months and I can finally understand what the lyrics are really talking about
How’s college life treating you?
I really enjoy this song 🤩
Underrated song
As far as I know the only song ever written about moving to L.A. and then going back east to visit and damn if he didn't nail it.
This is lowkey such a goated album. Adding to my list
BANGER
Free champagne on flights is a long gone image
Reminds me of growing up in suburbia usa.
Great song

40 odd years disappear instantly....happy days !
Classic!!!!
I accidentally put speed on 1.75 and it still sounds real great.
looks like Jim Rockford''s Firebird on the album cover.
that what i immediately thought when i saw it too. I bet Billy was a Rockford files fan :)
Good tune
Reminds me of Jackson Browne
yea where from Liverpool !
Your right about that!
So underrated
Elliot Belliss ikr?!? This is one of my favorites

Wow
what is the main instrument used to play the melody parts (like the intro) ? ?
ksufler sounds like an early synthesizer, like a Moog
A Minimoog that was available in 1970's.
Mooooooooooooooooog
Brett Koeshall it was a Moog, but those were made in the 1960’s, not the 1970’s. You can prove this as The Doors used one often in the late ‘60s, and the Beatles used one for the last two minutes of the song “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”

Kinda sounds like an Eagles song
Lyin’ Eyes. The chord progression is relatively similar, and has a similar feel. I personally prefer this song.

love this song, but the Moog is a little overbearing. It sounds like bad Atari 2600 sound effects.
I think I might be one the last young person in this generation to really appreciate a good music like this one
Im 12 and i love this too

Official music video?
There is no video yet and I don’t think we’ll ever get one, the video wouldn’t get much attention since it’s an underrated song.
i can see the concrete
Joel shares similarities with Elton John but Joel incorporates gospel and country into his music. It seems that his depression is reflected into his songs.
Elton John has way more gospel then Billy Joel. The tumbleweed connection and Elton John are just full of gospel and country.
Joel’s voice is much better in my opinion.
Fanatical Dueling yeah, especially on parts of the Caribou album, IMO.
Well except for the awesome opening song, Ticking, Solar Prestige a Gammon, and Don’t Let the Sun go Down on Me
Billy il più completo e duttile performer songwriter .... Cmq onore anche a Elton John
They are both incredible, there’s no one winner.
Sounds like a Jackson Browne song
Way too many!
Feels like a Eagles song
John Rizzio Reminds me of their cover of Ol' 55. Or something Randy Meisner would have sang.
Yes! or Jackson Browne
@@carrieannsutphin7503 Definitely similar to how Jackson Browne phrases his songs
@@spencercoe3804 Billy Joel doing Tom Waits, now that's something I'd love to hear.
