THAT WAS A MISTAKE !!!

Based on the teaser, the Titans' relationship has evolved further in Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire. As mentioned above, the pair were staunch enemies upon their first meeting and became involved in an inevitable battle. However, they were forced to put their differences aside when a more significant threat arose: Mechagodzilla. At first, Godzilla nearly kills Kong, but the tables turn quickly when Godzilla finds himself overwhelmed by Mechagodzilla. It's only when Kong's friend Jia (Kaylee Hottle) convinces Kong to help his former foe that the Titans combine forces against Mechagodzilla.
The final battle in Godzilla vs. Kong may give viewers a preview into the Titans' dynamic in Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire. Although they reluctantly work together, they prove to be quite a good team. Godzilla uses his atomic breath to power Kong's axe, allowing the Titan to soundly defeat Mechagodzilla. After the battle, the Titans parted ways peacefully, but it would be a stretch to call them friends at this point. They reached a tentative agreement to split their realms, but there's a feeling of an unspoken rule to stay out of each other's way.
Hence, it's surprising that the pair join forces in Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire. Additionally, there must be something more than begrudging respect in that relationship for Godzilla to allow Kong to ride on his back. Director Adam Wingard has teased a "buddy-cop" dynamic between the two, confirming the monsters' differences will still be acknowledged and that it's a reluctant alliance that they have rather than a friendship. Still, the piggyback ride in Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire's teaser makes one question if a true friendship will grow out of the unlikely team-up in true buddy-cop style.
