Curly Neal Harlem Globetrotter 1993

Curly Neal died March 26, 2020. He was 77 years old.
News 8's Hank Bauer was with him in January 1993 when he thrilled Tierrasanta third graders with his signature moves. What a treat it must have been for those boys. I'm sure they remember that day. The Globetrotters were in town for a show at the Sports Arena.

I can say this man was a gentleman. I used to live in his neighborhood when i was about 5yrs old, i heard rumors he was a famous ball player, and knew where he lived....so one day i went to his house and knocked on his door...his daughter i believe opened the door and I asked for Curly Neal....he came to the door and said hello, and I believe I asked for his autograph, and he signed a photo and gave it to me...If i was him, i'd be kind of annoyed, but I think he was somewhat amused by my audacity. RIP, I will never forget how you took the time to kindly deal with my intrusion of your privacy.

Curly visited my school St Pius in Oregon within a few months of when this news piece aired, and we all got on the evening news! He gave us the P.R.I.D.E speech. People didn't know he was also a gifted speaker.

today I am 56 years old (former basketball player) Curly was my favorite player in the 70s', I am currently shooting a music video where I will pay tribute to him and his whole team, I had to see them at the beginning of year in Paris but unfortunately because of this covid19 .... cancellation! to come back to that curly player ... i loved his slips on the ground his dribbling his smile his quickness to be elusive

As a kid, I hated basket ball, but I knew Curly! And years later, I still hate basket ball. But memory of Curly is still with me.
