About Senti, many people use Gluttony T, Meipool M, Newton B as support. I find it really weird since Senti lineup doesn't do much rotation (her ulti duration is hella long). Is her ultimate can reapply stigmata's effect as long as her burst mode still on or something? Or did they made an oopsie? On that note, I use Tesla Band T Beethoven MB for supporting lineup for BKE support. Since BKE has burst mode, is Beeth 2-set effect from Senti can buff BKE burst attack? The description is melee not basic attack. I apologize for asking too many questions... it's just that I've been asking myself this question for so long and no other streamer ever brought this topic (it's always beta stuff and score testing with expensive gear)

Also, you said retaliation is the same as UE, but it (should) also includes FT/BB EX ult parries. Overall a solid explanation. The only thing I think I would have added is more detail in the section about shield damage scaling. Example, all shields (aside from hit shields) take more damage from heavy attacks. The new elemental boss shields also gain shield damage multipliers like from DK field and VA skills. As well as added shield damage affixes etc. There is also the DMG against shields multi, I don't actually know much about it, but there are a few sources like Shui M and CH SS and SS.2 rank skills. I don't really know the difference and really don't want to be the one to test it. Shield damage will probably remain to be poorly understood. (rightfully so).

I think part of this is that Honkai’s community is so much small, but yeah, I played Honkai before Genshin and I still don’t completely understand Honkai’s damage system.
Yeah it’s because Honkai's community is smaller than Genshin's, that’s why there aren’t that many guides about it. It was still disheartening though. I came from Genshin as well and have been playing since the Honkai X Genshin collab, and I still don’t understand how to build up my team and which supports to use with the DPS, etc.

@@masterace9543 genshin is more simple because it IS successor, kinda impossible to change something been built for years without completely rebuild it from ground up
genshin actually uses the same system down to the multiplier part, though honkai is older, therefore a lot more types get added and a lot more mechanics (basic/charged/ranged/melee) gets exploited. Genshin also doesn't have the true multiplier (those undiluted multiplier) yet afaik, but who knows if they decided to add, or already did that (these multipliers existed since GK, and we only recently discovered when lwh was released, to give a viewpoint).
I gave Honkai a shot recently but I stopped playing after two weeks, mostly due to information overload. There are too many curriencies and too many shops, too many weirdly placed missions with hard to find rewards for collection, too many game modes with too many different storylines... I just felt lost. Perhaps if i were playing since launch I'd understand more, but right now getting into this game seems like something my small brain can't handle.
that's fine, it took me around 3 tries before i finally got comfortable with honkai's ui and started at least somewhat understanding what the hell was going on. it definitely feels overwhelming as hell in the beginning though

i used to be a meta slave so i searched for these game knowledge. back then it was 3c explaining these thing but as time goes by, mihoyo add more mechanics and 3c quit the game. thank you for making the updated version of game knowledeg. for me, the hardest and challenging part of the game is execution of each valkyries skills. timing is the key to get high score.

Coming from Genshin I was shocked learning that total damage multipliers use a different pool, and also that elemental damage can't crit (I don't have any elemental Valk yet so I didn't notice). This cleared up a lot of misconceptions ("on exit" *cough*) and grey areas.
Thanks Keeb, that answers most of the questions a new player may (and hopefully does) have. The only thing missing imo (and the only thing that's still not always clear to me) is some comment about melee/ranged tags themselves. Usually it's pretty obvious, but as far as I remember there used to be some weird cases and some stuff counts neither as melee nor ranged.
This is actually a very hard topic and it's extremely counter-intuitive at times, and its definitely not something you can intuitively define at all, but just know by case by case basis. For example Starlit Astrologos QTE and ultimate is treated as melee for some reason. Why is this Mihoyo? Not even I know.
It still gives me a smile to have so much complexity of mechanics in a gacha game. Go back a small pile of years, and "mobile game" was a nice way of saying "whale bait that'll drink you dry and give you nothing in return before shutting down in a year or so."
I think something that can easily be forgotten especially with those gear comparisons is that maximizing damage isn't everything, especially if stigmata have other benefits like the SP from Zhenyi Top.
It's mostly depend on the type of boss. If the boss can be quickly burst down without different phase and mechanic. Then max burst dps is better. But for boss that require a long fight. Then ulltility might work better

Glad to be part of honkai player too, just playing about 2 weeks and hit lv 54 is like a long way from lv 1, and a long journey to conquer those lv 80 with bunch of "real hard content" and soon will getting understand on how those hundred of stigmata works and their combination between one and another to make bigger dmg output.

Tysm for this, I just started about a month ago and although I'm familiar with similar mechanics of damage multipliers in other games like Path of Exile, you never know how things work in a new game 'til you go delve deep into it yourself. Saved me a bunch of time and explained/verified what I already felt intuitively from progressing in Elysian Realm, and why certain builds (especially when you get Kevin's Breach) made some bosses feel SO much better.
It would have porbably been much easier for all of us if the "Retaliation" was simply called "Parry" because that is what it refers to. Most of the time at least; on-burst BKE kinda force the parry to happen but oh well.
I just breakthrough and I never knew how DMG was calculated lol. There are some useless 3 pieces set effects and now I think I should replace them Really useful video , much appreciated ❤️

I feel like whenever I look up a guide, I see the same advice being rehashed but very few guide-makers give a mathematical justification for why exactly I need to forsake all my earthy possessions to eg. HoS. Seeing all the buffs and debuffs reflected in the damage formula is a lot more informative and convincing than "this valk with these gears gets top scores"

Iirc half of the effect of dirac M still works because ult is ult, but it won't get the TDM increase/sec. So that kinda makes sense. But yes, Musician on dps is a crime.

Assuming you got a dodge to proc the 2pc (FT sometimes doesn't get to dodge since shieldbreak = ez CC), all that is left is 55% physical and 31% TDM if we throw in a Jingwei T. Compare this to the classic Jingwei Marco Lier setup. Even without combo for Marco the damage after the big ult slash is lower on Dirac. Keep in mind the cost of both sets. Edit: I forgot to factor in the 13.5 % TDM over 9 seconds which does seem to work on non-burst characters based on the description. It still isn't enough even if you extend fervent mode past the default 6 seconds.

Keep 100% hp, DK shield makes this easier, sub in Marco T for multi-target Rebel Blades TB Marco M - Event exclusive. Roughly same performance as above but isn't restricted to fighting one enemy Michelangelo TB Marco M - Slightly better than Jingwei Marco Lier. I used to use this then transmuted it into Dirac when I got Shuijing - The actually good stuff Elysia TB + your best M piece - Pretty much the best pick at this point. From what I've seen, the best M piece varies with the boss: Shuijing for shieldbreaking Kallen, Mei M for nuking but if you have everything else in order, the difference is marginal at best... Ellie stigs gears BB, Ellie and BKE to various extents as well. Fittingly, the most expensive build here. Shuijing - Use fullset most of the time. Competitive with Elysia. Still worth getting both if you want your SA to have her gear for SSS Jizo while FT can have gear for whatever else. Also gears SA and situationally CH and BB. Kafka TM Mich/Lier/Elysia B - Kafka will be craftable v5.2, however Elysia set > Kafka set. Columbus TM Mich/Elysia B - Potentially better Kafka. Equal TDM, trades 20% phys for 30% CDMG. That said I wouldn't actively hunt this, it's a luxury pick and might produce the same result. Respectable results that warrant at least mentioning the set. Dickens - Paired with Sleeping Beauty in gacha. Just exchange for SB or SL. Dickens 2pc doesn't buff ult, 3pc doesn't even buff damage. SP regen from B piece is only noticeable in extended fights like abyss but HoS evade makes it redundant. M piece can be used with Ellie TB at least. Ellie TB also replaced Dickens TB on BB.

I started the game 2 days ago and it felt like all the gear descriptions had a lore to them as well... Thanks for this. I got AE twice and her weapon by just sheer luck and was thinking of going all elemental dmg but I think her kit becomes much more important with end-game enemies? Still, she's dealing more dmg than my dps rn lmao
Wow congrats dude, AE is one of the best if not the best elemental damage support and most valuablye valk for your account. Thats a very good start and welcome to honkai.
The thing with this game is if you want to learn the meta you need to do tons of reading. Here you not only have stats, skills and effects for valkyries but also stats, skills and effects for weapons. And you have the ELFs who also have their own stats, skills and effects (well if you're F2P you will most likely only have two). Then of course the stigmatas with their own stats and effects and you can "refine" them to add even more stats. Even the stages and game modes have their own status effects. I've been playing for two and a half years now and I can definitely say it's not as simplistic as Genshin Impact is. Thankfully I'm happy being a casual
Genshin impact: get a artifact set some crit damage and crit rate a good weapon and do big damage Honkai impact: *has to get master degree of understanding damage in honkai*
A good rule of thumb that I keep in mind for damage calculation is; Similar damage types are additive while different damage types are multiplicative. Kinda funny how I slowly learned most of the interactions and the game mechanics in honkai over the course of 3 years of play. But there is still a lot that I can learn. I'd be lying if I didn't think of great swords when heavy weapon is mentioned. I Also thought that breach worked differently, I thought 10% breach on a 90% resistant target would only shave 9%(10%of90). So its actually stronger than what I thought. With different attack types, one that really piques my interest is DP divine penalty. It's the only attack that doesn't trigger stig effects like newt B when it deals damage.
remeber when schrod T, planc M, and nweton B on miko is the best for reach 100k+ dmg in singgle hit and the player need to maually count the proc time of chrod T? yeah its a good old day. and judah OP

Personaly, Shujing & Dickens are the most suitable for Delta in both MA and Abyss. However, you can draft Top & bot Mich, mid Marco Polo for free. Kafka is also a good choice for you.

I have played honkai for weeks but I been playing genshin for a year I can see all these being so hard to get but as am familiar with everything in genshin and done a lot of one shot by playing with elemental mastery + support + artifact buffs resistance shred and more from all that knowledge it helps a lot to understand this video and i think i know enough to start building a character properly

This topic is so complex that I have rewatched this video 3 times and each time I understand new things, I even pick a minor mistake that you had (I have only find this) and it is about the retaliation buff 4:35 and the aclaration is that to my understanding it doesn't depend on ultimate evasion, it depends on the "retaliation" skills that is a hability or skill that some valkyries have (I am sure of Durandal's king and maybe Ilya's ultimate) were in a determinated window of time or moment, the vakyrie negates damage and this negation buffs the next (usually automatic) attack, which is basically Bright Knight Excelsis's (Bianca first S rank battlesuit) main source of damage.
Man i try to pay attention but i always lose focus at some point. I'll watch this one minute a day until i eventually get it. Thanks for this man, even just the stuff in the first 3 minutes already feels useful.

This is really nice explanation video. That after exit are always bugged me on how they really work. With a lot of short time debuff, I never thought it will last forever like that. Another mechanic that I think it important but Mihoyo don't really clear on it is "How to prolong the buff, de-buff and time fracture". I hope you will make a video explain it because I kind of remember that you can do it with another time fracture.

In Genshin also have a min maxing content creator, TENTEN. For Genshin the content is getting harder but still not hard enough to force player to swipe. So min maxing is just for who can clear faster but still the multiplier and variable in genshin are manageable and understandable at this point which I learn from TENTEN. At first I though calculation im Honkai is simple but oh boy, guess I just touch the tip of the Iceberg🤣🤣🤣. What makes Honkai hard to comprehend for me is how much information there is because of how much stuff has accumulated into the game over the years. You check character's talents in Genshin, there's three main ones and two passives (three with the utility passive) and it's not too much to digest. You check valkyrie's skills in Honkai and it's like getting blasted with the Path of Exile skill tree, and then you realise every valkyrie has their own PoE skill tree and there's like a quadrillion of them by now. And obviously you need to use this specific stigma on this specific character out of the literal hundreds that are in the game.

genshin actually uses the same system down to the multiplier part, though honkai is older, therefore a lot more types get added and a lot more mechanics (basic/charged/ranged/melee) gets exploited. Genshin also doesn't have the true multiplier (those undiluted multiplier) yet afaik, but who knows if they decided to add, or already did that (these multipliers existed since GK, and we only recently discovered when lwh was released, to give a viewpoint).

I gave Honkai a shot recently but I stopped playing after two weeks, mostly due to information overload. There are too many curriencies and too many shops, too many weirdly placed missions with hard to find rewards for collection, too many game modes with too many different storylines... I just felt lost. Perhaps if i were playing since launch I'd understand more, but right now getting into this game seems like something my small brain can't handle.

Coming from Genshin I was shocked learning that total damage multipliers use a different pool, and also that elemental damage can't crit (I don't have any elemental Valk yet so I didn't notice). This cleared up a lot of misconceptions ("on exit" *cough*) and grey areas.
Thanks Keeb, that answers most of the questions a new player may (and hopefully does) have. The only thing missing imo (and the only thing that's still not always clear to me) is some comment about melee/ranged tags themselves. Usually it's pretty obvious, but as far as I remember there used to be some weird cases and some stuff counts neither as melee nor ranged.
This is actually a very hard topic and it's extremely counter-intuitive at times, and its definitely not something you can intuitively define at all, but just know by case by case basis. For example Starlit Astrologos QTE and ultimate is treated as melee for some reason. Why is this Mihoyo? Not even I know.

I think something that can easily be forgotten especially with those gear comparisons is that maximizing damage isn't everything, especially if stigmata have other benefits like the SP from Zhenyi Top.
It's mostly depend on the type of boss. If the boss can be quickly burst down without different phase and mechanic. Then max burst dps is better. But for boss that require a long fight. Then ulltility might work better

Anyway, thanks to bring this content up. I used to play meta/minmaxing on genshin, then i feel bored because spiral abyss will reset every 2 weeks, usually learning some mobs pattern on F12 but then again get bored to have replaying the same content, with different team comp to experimenting on how my unit perform with new or existing meta team comp.
Glad to be part of honkai player too, just playing about 2 weeks and hit lv 54 is like a long way from lv 1, and a long journey to conquer those lv 80 with bunch of "real hard content" and soon will getting understand on how those hundred of stigmata works and their combination between one and another to make bigger dmg output.
As a casual (Ranks up and down from Abyss / Red lotus) this is really appreciated, even if I'm already following it, just in case I mess up putting same multipliers (faster clears = more time Irl, on GI & AK)

Tysm for this, I just started about a month ago and although I'm familiar with similar mechanics of damage multipliers in other games like Path of Exile, you never know how things work in a new game 'til you go delve deep into it yourself. Saved me a bunch of time and explained/verified what I already felt intuitively from progressing in Elysian Realm, and why certain builds (especially when you get Kevin's Breach) made some bosses feel SO much better.
It would have porbably been much easier for all of us if the "Retaliation" was simply called "Parry" because that is what it refers to.
Most of the time at least; on-burst BKE kinda force the parry to happen but oh well.
she retaliates againts the meta that old valks will get overpowered, by getting more overpowered on every update :v

I feel like whenever I look up a guide, I see the same advice being rehashed but very few guide-makers give a mathematical justification for why exactly I need to forsake all my earthy possessions to eg. HoS. Seeing all the buffs and debuffs reflected in the damage formula is a lot more informative and convincing than "this valk with these gears gets top scores"

Iirc half of the effect of dirac M still works because ult is ult, but it won't get the TDM increase/sec. So that kinda makes sense. But yes, Musician on dps is a crime.
@@Riku_nkmr Only the initial swing of her ult will benefit, not fervent mode, so Dirac M disappears. Assuming you got a dodge to proc the 2pc (FT sometimes doesn't get to dodge since shieldbreak = ez CC), all that is left is 55% physical and 31% TDM if we throw in a Jingwei T.
Compare this to the classic Jingwei Marco Lier setup. Even without combo for Marco the damage after the big ult slash is lower on Dirac. Keep in mind the cost of both sets.
Edit: I forgot to factor in the 13.5 % TDM over 9 seconds which does seem to work on non-burst characters based on the description. It still isn't enough even if you extend fervent mode past the default 6 seconds.

Jingwei Marco Lier - Cheapest, decent, non-event exclusive option. Keep 100% hp, DK shield makes this easier, sub in Marco T for multi-target
Rebel Blades TB Marco M - Event exclusive. Roughly same performance as above but isn't restricted to fighting one enemy
Michelangelo TB Marco M - Slightly better than Jingwei Marco Lier. I used to use this then transmuted it into Dirac when I got Shuijing
- The actually good stuff
Elysia TB + your best M piece - Pretty much the best pick at this point. From what I've seen, the best M piece varies with the boss: Shuijing for shieldbreaking Kallen, Mei M for nuking but if you have everything else in order, the difference is marginal at best... Ellie stigs gears BB, Ellie and BKE to various extents as well. Fittingly, the most expensive build here.
Shuijing - Use fullset most of the time. Competitive with Elysia. Still worth getting both if you want your SA to have her gear for SSS Jizo while FT can have gear for whatever else. Also gears SA and situationally CH and BB.
Kafka TM Mich/Lier/Elysia B - Kafka will be craftable v5.2, however Elysia set > Kafka set.
Columbus TM Mich/Elysia B - Potentially better Kafka. Equal TDM, trades 20% phys for 30% CDMG. That said I wouldn't actively hunt this, it's a luxury pick and might produce the same result. Respectable results that warrant at least mentioning the set.
Dickens - Paired with Sleeping Beauty in gacha. Just exchange for SB or SL. Dickens 2pc doesn't buff ult, 3pc doesn't even buff damage. SP regen from B piece is only noticeable in extended fights like abyss but HoS evade makes it redundant. M piece can be used with Ellie TB at least. Ellie TB also replaced Dickens TB on BB.

I got AE twice and her weapon by just sheer luck and was thinking of going all elemental dmg but I think her kit becomes much more important with end-game enemies? Still, she's dealing more dmg than my dps rn lmao

The thing with this game is if you want to learn the meta you need to do tons of reading. Here you not only have stats, skills and effects for valkyries but also stats, skills and effects for weapons. And you have the ELFs who also have their own stats, skills and effects (well if you're F2P you will most likely only have two). Then of course the stigmatas with their own stats and effects and you can "refine" them to add even more stats. Even the stages and game modes have their own status effects.
I've been playing for two and a half years now and I can definitely say it's not as simplistic as Genshin Impact is. Thankfully I'm happy being a casual

When I first play Genshin as a Honkai player, I immediately seek for support or something that has TDM : v
Genshin impact: get a artifact set some crit damage and crit rate a good weapon and do big damage
Honkai impact: *has to get master degree of understanding damage in honkai*
A good rule of thumb that I keep in mind for damage calculation is;
Similar damage types are additive while different damage types are multiplicative.
Kinda funny how I slowly learned most of the interactions and the game mechanics in honkai over the course of 3 years of play. But there is still a lot that I can learn.
I'd be lying if I didn't think of great swords when heavy weapon is mentioned.
I Also thought that breach worked differently, I thought 10% breach on a 90% resistant target would only shave 9%(10%of90). So its actually stronger than what I thought.
With different attack types, one that really piques my interest is DP divine penalty. It's the only attack that doesn't trigger stig effects like newt B when it deals damage.
remeber when schrod T, planc M, and nweton B on miko is the best for reach 100k+ dmg in singgle hit and the player need to maually count the proc time of chrod T?

Personaly, Shujing & Dickens are the most suitable for Delta in both MA and Abyss. However, you can draft Top & bot Mich, mid Marco Polo for free. Kafka is also a good choice for you.

no it's just the condition to activate the bonus.
Charge/Combo are taken as Normal attack mostly. They are a type of normal attack. But If you are in burst mode they maybe viewed as burst damage

I have played honkai for weeks but I been playing genshin for a year I can see all these being so hard to get but as am familiar with everything in genshin and done a lot of one shot by playing with elemental mastery + support + artifact buffs resistance shred and more from all that knowledge it helps a lot to understand this video and i think i know enough to start building a character properly

This topic is so complex that I have rewatched this video 3 times and each time I understand new things, I even pick a minor mistake that you had (I have only find this) and it is about the retaliation buff 4:35 and the aclaration is that to my understanding it doesn't depend on ultimate evasion, it depends on the "retaliation" skills that is a hability or skill that some valkyries have (I am sure of Durandal's king and maybe Ilya's ultimate) were in a determinated window of time or moment, the vakyrie negates damage and this negation buffs the next (usually automatic) attack, which is basically Bright Knight Excelsis's (Bianca first S rank battlesuit) main source of damage.
Man i try to pay attention but i always lose focus at some point. I'll watch this one minute a day until i eventually get it. Thanks for this man, even just the stuff in the first 3 minutes already feels useful.

Another mechanic that I think it important but Mihoyo don't really clear on it is "How to prolong the buff, de-buff and time fracture". I hope you will make a video explain it because I kind of remember that you can do it with another time fracture.

In Genshin also have a min maxing content creator, TENTEN.
For Genshin the content is getting harder but still not hard enough to force player to swipe. So min maxing is just for who can clear faster but still the multiplier and variable in genshin are manageable and understandable at this point which I learn from TENTEN.
At first I though calculation im Honkai is simple but oh boy, guess I just touch the tip of the Iceberg🤣🤣🤣.

What makes Honkai hard to comprehend for me is how much information there is because of how much stuff has accumulated into the game over the years. You check character's talents in Genshin, there's three main ones and two passives (three with the utility passive) and it's not too much to digest. You check valkyrie's skills in Honkai and it's like getting blasted with the Path of Exile skill tree, and then you realise every valkyrie has their own PoE skill tree and there's like a quadrillion of them by now. And obviously you need to use this specific stigma on this specific character out of the literal hundreds that are in the game.
I didn't get it all but FINALLYYY!! A video that explains Honkai's mechanics. I can rewatch it and try to understand how the game works, I was so lost! Thanks!
