Never stop what brings you joy! Sewing is my happy place too. Kaffe is one of my favorite designers. You need to make the quilt and see what a contrast the black make and how beautiful it is. I made one and the contrast is what makes it so beautiful. Enjoy your sewing and have a blessed day!

The itty bitty mat would be great for trimming 1/2 square triangles with the clearly perfect slotted rulers. Love the fabric. Had a good day shopping for fabric, tidied up my sewing room and did some cutting. Am happy to see you are doing better too.

It's Lisa, Holly's assistant, stopping by to visit comments today as Holly's busy prepping for things this week but will swing by here later in the week. Wanted to let you know those Clover self-threading needles have a notch near the top of the eye where you can push your thread down into it vs. trying to get the end of the thread through the hole; so it's not that the eye is necessarily small, but the notch is small! They're pretty helpful and good when you want to bury thread tails when machine or hand quilting; I've not used them for hand stitching or EPP as I use smaller needles for that so not sure how they'd work for stitching.

Good morning and happy Monday! My weekend was pretty good. As of last Friday, my partner is officially retired so we'll actually be able to spend quality time together 😀 Saturday, I worked on making a new handbag - same pattern as my current one, but different fabrics and hopefully no mistakes in the finished project this time - and yesterday was another build day for Midsummer Scream. Also our neighbor painted their wrought iron fence; it was all white before; they left the curved parts white and painted the uprights in rainbow colors. It turned out very bright & cheerful.
This box is not my style at all. I love the colors that Kaffe uses, but the patterns are too big and clashy for my taste. I wouldn't make the quilt, I wouldn't use the labels. The mat is so tiny! You wouldn't be able to see the markings unless the fabric you're cutting is just a scrap. The snips are cute, though.
I am sorry that the scissors keeper didn't turn out the way you hoped. It's still useful at least, and the fabrics you used look wonderful. I'm with you, though - a zipper is preferable to a snap or magnetic closure, and binding, bah! In theory it's great, but in practice it's so difficult to catch the back edge properly without either leaving a bit of a flange or missing the edge altogether.
Huh. I was using the touch screen to scroll and discovered I can move the captioning from one part of the screen to another by dragging it. That's useful to know; so often RUclipsrs will put a caption or info at the bottom of the screen & I can't read it because the closed captioning is in the way. Excellent!

Holly, I was quite an accomplished sewer before quilting. I think that scissor holder would be difficult. I always use snaps instead of magnets. I find the magnets over time wear through the material. I like the way it turned out, though.
I am going to date myself here, but the big black and white Kaffe circles remind me of the intro to The Twilight Zone.
This weekend, I went out and picked a huge bucket of French green beans from my garden. Darn, if a yellow jacket/wasp (I didn't get a good look) didn't bite me. It itches and is slightly swollen , but boy the green beans taste good. Since we have 4 varieties of grapes climbing up on pig wire in the garden, we tend to get the nasty wasps on our acre. I usually go out before the sun is up to work in the garden, and the wasps are asleep.
Holly, have a great day. Yesterday was a little cloudy, so we only got up to 98. We are in our July stretch of plus 100 degrees. It is 79 degrees already and it is not even 7:00 am. Big sigh.

TBH I was wishing I had one of those little mats. I was trimming down HSTs to 2.5” and I didn’t feel like pulling out my larger mat that turns for a block that size. So, the mat you have will come in handy if you ever need to trim down smaller blocks.

The magnet not sticking is not your fault. I have had the same time happen as well as once having a magnet so strong I felt like I was going to rip the material. Some magnets are stronger than others. The By Annie magnets are supposed to be very good but I have not used the one I bought yet so I cannot say for sure. The scissor case was beautifully done!

Hi, this is Holly's assistant, Lisa; I'm checking in on comments as Holly's busy preparing for some things this week but she'll look at comments later in the week. The pattern is called Wyld Whirl and it is/was a free pattern by Wyldwood Creative that they send/sent with every fat quarter bundle; they're in Renton, WA if you want to contact them about it. I'm not sure what fabrics Holly used, but I'll check in with her and be sure to return here to let you know, and I'll also ask her to mention it in a future video as several people have asked about it. Happy Quilting!

Wavy seams -- it is said that as Monet's eyes became worse he saw colors differently; hence, his "green period," "blue period," etc. His paintings are worth a lot of money! I have a hack that I used recently; will send you one -- it's a rectangle Lego! You put it on your machine with some removable sticky adhesive (e.g., the putty you use to put posters on the wall). I used Duct Tape brand putty (there are others) and it holds in place well and didn't harm my machine when I removed it (by twisting the Lego clockwise and counter clockwise until it came off). Hope this is helpful to anyone that also wants to try it!

I see lots of quilters that use the wavy sewing when quilting the whole quilt. How about we say you are evolving. You are choosing fabrics from other designers and there's noting wrong with that. This box with the Kaffe fabrics appealed to me and most times it doesn't. So now I'll have to rethink his lines in the future. Love the scissor holder. Great job. TFS

It's Lisa, Holly's assistant; I'm checking in on comments today as Holly is busy preparing for some things this week and will catch up comments later in the week. I know what you mean about the colors being too bold for your home. One tip: cut the fabric smaller; you end up with beautiful pops of color as an accent surrounded by the color of your choice that coordinates with your home vs. it being the focal print! Might work great in a postage stamp quilt, the Crossroads block, half square triangles, Jacob's Ladder just to name a few. Happy Quilting!

Hollllly! Girl! You are way way to hard on yourself - I think it looks great, I do like the zipper pouches better because I like the fabric but the first looks lovely. I like the band you added to it even though you have magnetics cause you could put those clippy thingys on it etc. Oh! There's Ghastlies fabric where the characters are holding scissors that would be great for a scissor pouch.
Buying fabric is my super power, just sayin'. I'd use that little mat in the kitchen for cutting up my veggies - and my sandwiches...I like my sandwiches quartered ;-) Ooohhhh - love those big prints, they look great cut down into little pieces like a 2.5" square. I like the entire box, I'd do a different pattern but it's really pretty fabric - especially the black and white fabrics. Very striking.
The value is definitely there. I can't remember what our voting scale is so I'm giving this a 10.
