    I remember when there was competition which kept prices reasonable.

      It was, back in the day when Walmart actually carried pistol rounds. Once their competition was gone the local academy sold the same thing for $179. Their decision with other companies that treated firearms owners with disdain is the reason prices went up and supply went down.

    Nice to see all that ammo, even if it is more than I want to pay...gotta remember a couple years ago, people lined up at stores hoping for the truck to bring something...so, availability first, then worry about the pricing...our local big box is advertising 10 cent mini-mags, sale starts tomorrow, I'll probably grab a couple boxes...the big deal for us right now is 9mm fmj at 12.99 a box, that is a half decent price (we buy nothing online), at a local gunshop...but yeah, like seeing lots of ammo...

    Federal’s parent company Vista Outdoors who owns a lot of companies that cater to the big box stores and let the LGS die on the vine.
    For example, Alliant powder is only available to certain mega vendors like Brownells, Scheels, Academy, etc.
    Here in Houston Academy has a lot of Federal and CCI primers at $100/1000 plus 8.25% sales tax.
    Academy has a monopoly on primers because they buy a LOT. Of Vista Outdoors products.
    8:04
    My LGS cannot get any Alliant Powder nor any primers from his wholesaler.
    Luckily we can get Hodgdon powders but Federal primers are scarce and expensive.
    Thank you vista for making the shooting sports too expensive for the average working person.

The good news about the high ammo inventory is it tells us demand at these prices is low which means ammo prices will have to come down eventually according to the law of supply and demand. Ouch. You'd think they would at least try to be competitive with online sellers. Even paying for S&H, there's better deals out there, and that's not even buying full cases.

    Folks keep saying ammo prices are gonna drop, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I buy on sale when I can, but "odd" ammo I buy when I find it. I find 20 guage buck, I buy it. Just one example, but waiting on prices to drop across the board, not happening in our lifetimes.

    • @wackzingo
      @wackzingo Год назад

      You're mistaken. The reason prices haven't dropped yet is the manufacturers are still working 24/7 to fill backorders from the pandemic so from their end they haven't seen a drop in sales. What you're seeing now on the shelf is ammo that was ordered 1-2 years ago and is just now hitting shelves. After they work through the backorder and have to deal with much lower orders, prices will drop. It's just a fact of economics and the law of supply & demand.

    • @semlohde1
      @semlohde1 Год назад +1

      I agree, don't hold your breath for lower priced. 223 is going for 13.99-16.99 for 20. I take a box I bought, same box, 3.99 a few years ago. Nothing has gone down, at best, it just becomes available. 44mag at $1 a round - why? I used to reload but for the past few years primers were impossible to get. I buy when I can find it, at my price.

    • @wackzingo
      @wackzingo Год назад +1

      @@semlohde1 that's $0.70 a round. I'm paying $0.42 a round already. I'm paying $13 for 50rd boxes of PMC 9mm. Those are regular prices not sales. Prices are already coming down.

    This is what’s happening. I know a dozen online retailers way way cheaper. Do your homework. Some have free shipping. Big box stores all about huge profits. With diesel prices so high a large part of that ammo price is the shipping cost. The retailer don’t want to make less so they pass that on to us. Easy answer pass…. Take that Winchester 7.62x39. Clearly says target ammo. Crazy they even put that out. Expect dust on that one. Things have changed. Online way to go now.

      I definitely plan on making more kayak videos. My goals on the channel is not to be some one dimensional. I’d love to have a few topics that I regularly post about. The ONLY problem with fishing is it’s long day for 1, maybe 2, videos, whereas I can go to the range for 2 hours and get 3 or 4 videos done.
