  • It's time to replace the coolant pump on our Tormach lathe with something a little more capable. While we are at it we will add a filter to keep things clean and do a little maintenance to the machine.

I am glad to see you are getting a lot of use from that machine.

Thanks, Harold! The lathe has been a workhorse for me. The mill is relegated to teaching and very occasional 2nd op work ever since I got the Brother VMC. Hope you are doing well! Your projects seem to be keeping you busy. - Tom Z

Thank you, sir. It's making a big difference already. It's still managing to push the coolant through at a higher pressure which is breaking chips better.

Thank you, sir. I still want to make a proper mount for the pump but I was going for function for now. Hope all is well there! - TZ

I did the same thing as you with my 440, but instead, I used the new 770m pump with the new three metal nozzle kit from tormach, It’s makes a big difference.

That's a great idea! I think that would work much better than what I did to my 440. Might order that nozzle kit to replace the snap lock stuff I used. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for posting! I always felt the coolant pressure was on the low side on my Tormach lathe . Can you show how you connected the hose to the back of the turret? Is it the same thread?
I wanted to add a hand sprayer to wash down my enclosure and glad I came across your video!

I'm still using the stock connections for the hose from the coolant tank and into the turret. That being said, I'm about to use larger, 3/4" hose and route it around the outside and into the turret. The choke point will be at the turret connection itself but that's still twice the size of the flexible hose. That's the real issue with these - just replacing that hose with something that has a bigger inner diameter will greatly improve flow rates. Thanks for watching! - Tom Z

Rolltech Innovation manufactures machine coolant saver. Serious threats to productivity and health are bacteria and fungi which are commonly found in industrial coolants. This coolant bacteria filter has some advantageous features include: last a life time, with guarantee of extended life of coolant with bacteria filter - no consumables, no electricity, no chemical dosing, etc. It is a one time investment, ROI within 4-6 Months, Saves on input of fresh oil and disposal cost like etp treatment, or giving it to authorised recycler. These mineral oil based coolant are prone to generation of bacteria which produces foul odour, often from hydrogen sulfide [rotten egg smell]. Rolltech Innovation "Aqualogic" filter is an innovative and economical method of continuously controlling these micro organisms and the odour they generate. "Aqualogic" bacteria coolant filter consists of series of high-purity multi-metal fibres cased within a stainless steel tube. the dissimilar ions in the multimetal alloy bed undergo a natural electrochemical reaction, also known as an oxidation-reduction reaction.
