Found a pair today, in Canada in Winners retail store, for $119 CAD. Best deal ever. They had no idea what they had in there. Also got a pair of Hoka recovery slides for $39 CAD.
Really detailed review definitely subbing. Do you think these would survive a dirt/crushed limestone trail? I got a half coming up soon and I’m really considering these for many reasons. Seem to be the widest of the rocket (not x2) and carbon series which my feet are pretty wide but do you think they’d slide around too much with the upper? Hoka so far seems to work pretty well with my feet spoke I’m pretty hopeful about these, especially since they’re pretty cheap on eBay
Thank you! And welcome to the Channel! These should well on crushed limestone. They’re super running shoes and if you can get a big discount even better! 👌🏼
I just ordered a pair directly from Hoka, on sale for only $159. I'm looking forward to seeing how they compare to the Clifton 8s which were my first Hokas.
These are now discontinued but you can still pick up a pair. I managed to find some on eBay and just love them - they are definitely the Biz! I will use them if I do faster runs on the road as they feel very protective compared to my other Hoka's - Clifton 9 and Speedgoat.
I wouldn’t recommend it as they’re pretty firm (race ready). The better suited HOKA running shoes for you would be the Mach 5 or Mach X. The Clifton 9 is also great for long distance easy cushioned miles. Here my breakdown of the best HOKAS for various use cases: www.trailandkale.com/gear/best-hoka-running-shoes-reviewed/
Hey there 👋🏼 The HOKA Rocket X 2 is an elite-level carbon plate running shoe, designed for fast performance. It's remarkably lightweight at 7.6 oz, offers a snug and breathable upper, and includes a carbon fiber plate for efficient energy return and speed. A notable feature is the early-stage Meta-Rocker midsole, enhancing the smooth and efficient running gait. It’s also very comfortable for a super shoe which is why I love it so much. Priced at $250, it's on the premium side. You can check out the detailed review here: www.trailandkale.com/gear/hoka-rocket-x-2-review/ Comparing the HOKA Carbon X 3 and Rocket X 2, the X 3 feels more firm (less cushioned) and has a good balance between speed and support for the price, whereas the Rocket X 2 is built for outright speed, targeting elite runners and those seeking personal bests in races. Both share the carbon plate innovation but differ in fit, cushioning, and specific performance goals.
Thanks so much for the detailed response. I am looking for a carbon road shoe for two of my upcoming races. Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra (56km) Comrades Marathon (90km) Being mostly a trail runner, and using Salomon as my preferred brand, I’m finding it hard to decide on a road shoe. I haven’t run in a Carbon road shoe before, so am just worried about making the switch without trying the shoe… unfortunately the Rocket X 2 & 3 don’t seem to be available here in South Africa, yet I can’t help wanting to get them. My Salomon Genesis does have a fork like Carbon plate which I love running in, but it is obviously a much heavier shoe than the road shoes. Oh and yes I did watch your review on the Hoka Rocket X 2 as well 😁… the Rocket x 3 just has much nicer colours lol.
Ah yes the Carbon X 3 🙈… and I see they currently on Sale for just $119… now just to get them shipped to South Africa. Hopefully the Rocket X 2 will come around this side soon. Definitely one of the best, and informative reviews, if not the best.
I’m injured, but I’m working on my comeback. I love to jog and run on asphalt, and sometimes in the woods. Are these good for my comeback, or should I get at more softer sole, like the Hoka Bondi 8?
I’d recommend a more cushioned midsole Hoka, like the Mach 5 which is like a more plush version of this one, or the Clifton 9 (which is an even more plush shoe that’s great for everyday training and getting easy miles in)
Thanks for Vid, hopefully you're able to give me some advice. I have a wide & flat feet, also have been using Altra. So I am wondering if the X3 is going to give me a proper support as well as enough traction in the wet? I found Altra road generally are quite slippery in a wet UK road. (even when ground is slightly wet). Do people generally go with trail for running in a slightly wet ground. I haven't got any trail shoes hence the question, in your opinion should I stick with road for wet ground scenario (not when pouring down). (if yes which shoes please:) )be great to get a bit of insights on these questions? thanks
Hey there, sorry for the delayed reply! Definitely stick to road shoes for road as the tread on trail shoes will be too aggressive, and the lugs will likely wear down faster. You could try a hybrid shoe instead however! That may be what you’re after!
That’s a good price! You could wear them everyday but they are quite a firm shoe due to the carbon plate. If that’s not a problem for you and you don’t want a cushioned shoe then they’ll be great for you.
Very different shoes. Carbon x3 is a carbon fiber plated running shoe so it’s firm and responsive for going fast. Nimbus is max cushioned for those who like/need a plush ride.
Nice review 🤘 They are amazing in terms of speed and lightness. I use them just for pace training and competition 😁 The only problem.... The laces.... They are so long and annoying.... Never know how to adjust them.... So i make noodles with 🤣

Nice effort!! Sounds like a treasure trove! 🏴☠️
Found this exact pair at a store near me for $90. I ran to the register
@Itsadeadshame lol, damn that’s a great deal! I wonder if the carbon x3 is on the horizon..

They’re a very different shoe to the Clifton (less plush but a lot faster!) :)
I like my Clifton 8’s better ( so far ) but I’ve only ran in the Carbons twice now. It’ll be a hundred miles before I can say for sure.

They’re nice and responsive aren’t they ⚡️
How ist the sizing compared to new balance? is it the same?
In my experience so far, yes. Go with your usual sizing 👍🏼
Can you use these as a daily trainer for those longer runs?
I wouldn’t recommend it as they’re pretty firm (race ready). The better suited HOKA running shoes for you would be the Mach 5 or Mach X. @@trailandkale I've a pair off mach x's brilliant shoe would they be more off a daily trainer with a different plate in them
They’re more cushioned more than anything, so if you plan to run longer more frequently then they’re a better option I’d say.

appreciate the weight and shoe size..I realized this today when I decided to weigh some of mine!
