Dear Colin 😃, I am full of admiration for your diligence and creative efficiency. Three weeks ago you gave us Bethoven's Kreutzersonate and Bagatellen op.33, and in just 9 days you gave us Mozart's Sonata No. 8. Everything was made so perfectly, perfecting the smallest subtle detail. You have an exceptionally great talent and musical memory. How is it possible for you to prepare such an extensive program so perfectly? :) Apart from piano, you also study at the School. Playing the piano requires several or a dozen / 4-8 hours / day. You will notice a break of 1-2 days, although no one else would notice it... As for Mozart's Sonata No. 8, I am very impressed...💯👍 The first chords of Icz. have a beautiful elegiac character, almost heroic in sound. Then comes a beautiful development and a coherent return to the topic, but as if renewed with a great deal of life. Maintaining it is amazing, uplifting, full of expression. Whereas part II different, incredibly melodious in its entirety. Like a lark singing. This is your singing, the singing of your soul. You sang so beautifully and worked out every phrase - in the right, left in p pp f ff and so sensually... :) The third part is different, lively, dynamic, also full of cantlene... Colin Pütz spielt im Leoninum Bonn auf dem größten Konzertflügel der Welt, einem Fazioli F308, ein hervorragendes Instrument für hoch- und spätromantische Klaviermusik: Aber auf ihm Mozart spielen? Doch der junge Pianist meistert diese Herausforderung mit Bravour: Bei seiner a-moll-Sonate, einer der beiden tragischen Moll-Sonaten Mozarts, hat zwar jeder Ton Gewicht, aber die Tongebung bleibt gleichwohl schlank. Das kommt dem 1. Satz zugute, sorgt für einen elegischen, letztlich aber klassischen statt romantisierenden Klang. Der 2. Satz gewinnt mit der Interpretation von Colin Pütz unglaubliche Größe, ist eine „große Opernszene ohne Worte“; jede melodische Phrase sorgsam ausgespielt. Der 3. Satz ist zwar ein flottes Presto, gleichwohl aber mozartuntypisch tragisch: Wunderbar, wie Colin Pütz bei 17:54 die Bassstimme formt! Und selbst die A-Dur-Passage (18:40), die schon ein wenig Dvorak vorausahnen lässt, hellt den Satz nicht auf, erhöht im Gegenteil die Tragik des Satzes, weil Colin Pütz zudem das Tempo wunderbar durchhält - ohne Sentimentalität und gerade deshalb tief berührend. Großartig!
I never paid much attention to the second movement of this sonata until your performance. You have an amazing ability of bringing out more focus and importance to any passage you play. I particularly enjoyed the brilliant clarity and resonance you bring to this movement. It’s such a rich piece - more meaningful and beautiful than I remember, especially from 12.40min-14.08min. Intense passage. Tolle!
