Sorin, to check the circuit for other side of the board, you can use the "light test". Put a flash light under the board, and look at the traces. You'll see it exactly where it going and coming.
The two diodes supply the chip with power one diode pd5 is from usb c port and diode pd8 from battery, the mosfet configuration is buck boost( low voltage to higher voltage, high voltage to lower voltage )
Hi Sorin, is there a follow up video for this problem with the Lenovo Yoga 910 power issues? You were looking to put a new chip in and show us etc. Many thanks for the great videos.
I was having a Crappy day, when you said" I found it... the Bastard'.. I just started laughing my arse off! That really made me feel as good as you probably felt at finding it. Love ya, Keep up the great work!
This video shows why it's nice to make a multimeter probe with a crocodile clip and some frayed solder wick or audio multi-strand wire so you can brush over large areas to quickly narrow down where the beep comes.
What I use for a fast way of finding a missing connection, is a cable braid. Like for example from a coaxial cable shielding, or a solder wick. You make a brush, attach it to one probe, and swipe across the board. Btw. you meant to say a two diode logical OR connection.
If the laptop is working on battery mode only, and not on adaptor the common issue is the charging IC or the upper or lower mosfet, so better to use schematic diagram, and focus on the charging circuit only, by the way sorin is legendary technician he is fixing without schematic 🥰
My Lenovo 910 had the same fault twice, one time unplugging the battery and reconnecting it and started working. Another time the ribbon cable was not clamping properly and would only work with pressure on it, I repositioned the foam block on the connector and replaced the rear cover to hold the pressure on it.
I have the exact same laptop with the same problem and I did everything your doing so far. It took me a while to figure out the battery tells the charger to switch to 20v. I opened the battery and found 2 cells at .66v and 2 at 4.2v. Someone plugged in a Chromebook charger and shorted half of the battery. New battery and it was good to go after programming to the laptop.

When I put it to sleep manually close the lid then open it, the laptop doesn't wakeup until l press something on the keyboard. What do you propose me to do? Everything in the Microphone and lid settings is fine. It should work but it isn't. Please help
Hello Sorin, first of all, thanks for the video. I experienced the same issue today... (I'm in the learning phase, and I bought a laptop exactly like this one with a possible display defect, as it worked via HDMI). I didn't have a dedicated charger... so initially, I used 5V 1.5A via USB, and it started to power on. I gradually increased it to around 19-20V, then increased the amperage to 2.2A... it started to charge. I left it for a while, then I unplugged it... after which I plugged it back in without lowering it to 5V... short circuit... spark... and pretty much done with charging. :))) Now, my question is, did the chip ultimately solve the problem?
Maestro thanks, could you give one video about how to use diode mode and resistance to detect short circuits on a simple practical Example thank you.I know you already give some but pls if you can on example what can we check with resistene and what and when to use diode mode .
Hello Sir, Good day just want to ask that did you able replace the ic isl 9237hrz? did you fix the lenovo yoga 910, because I got the same problem. I bought a new power board but i got the same issue.
Hello. Watched you video and it was such a great help. I identified the same exact issue on my same laptop. IC 9237HRZ had a hole in it and diodes pd5 and pd8 are disintegrated and displaced. Have you found out anything about these diodes, type and what part they are? I was able to locate IC on mouser but cannot find info on the diodes. Thank you very much for your work sir!!!

Sorin, I think you should re-adjust the microphone thingy, so we can ear also the beeping... now we can't ear te background noise, but nothing else apart from your voice.
New Lenovo laptops use usb c charger which has variable voltage up to 20v. This seems to be a bad design; they have gone mad creating complex charging for laptops when ~ 20v is fine! You can use 2 usb connectors for charging and you would think they would put one either side of the laptop which is a great for convenience but they dont!
How does a component disintegrate like that? As soon as you touched it it turned to dust 🤣 I suppose a better question would be, how do any of these components fail? Is it just a sudden surge or something else?
Look at 1:04:21, when he injects voltage and the chips starts becoming hot. In this case there was not a 0 ohm short, when he injected voltage it started becoming hot but there was some resistance and it was only taking 500mA, which is too much for the chip itself but it's probably not enough to be detected by a thermal camera if you don't already know where to look for
@@gianseven Thanks for the reply. Injecting voltage earlier on at the capacitor Sorin attached a wire to, may have revealed the same issue much earlier on. If the heat can make the alcohol dance like that, its releasing more than enough heat to be detected on a decent thermal camera.

Thank you for the lesson, Sorin. This case has great resemblance to the common USB-C charging faults among Macbooks.
