Another great thing about Hippowdon in this game: You no longer have to worry about how the rest of your team will be affected by Sand Stream to the fact that abilities don't exist.
I suppose having to use every Pokemon for our PokeDex research has helped open players' eyes to Pokemon they once thought to be weak or straight-up useless in previous games. That's probably one of the smaller charms of Legends Arceus :)
This is precisely why I dont mind "cut dexes". Having a smaller pokedex gives mons a better chance of being used more than they're used to. At least, until the community finds the next broken OU pokemon to gravitate towards for the rest of the gen lol
You get a reaper cloth as a wisps reward too at some point I think. 🤔 Idk how many wisps but you'll most likely get all the wisps at some point anyways.
some people prefer raising a pokemon from its first evolution instead of catching a really high level alpha pokemon that's how i like doing it so *shrug* do what you will. imma keep my regular one lol
Interesting enough, catching the duskclops for the story that I needed, I got the reaper cloth and knew I had to have it on my team and evolve it after the fight
Bastiodon and Flareon are good options now with Power Shift, a new move that can turn a wall into a cannon, or a physical attacker into a special one depending on defenses.
I remembered using an Alpha Hippowdon in the game. Even though it was mainly a fail safe in case my other Pokemon faints until I can find the last two members of my team, it came in handy several times.
This game hasnt really changed my mind on some pokemon, but it has allowed me to use pokemon i always struggle to get like Scizor and electivire. So I really do appreciate the new tradeless system
Haven't played Arceus but I wanna say that I think Phanpy and Donphan are one of the most underrated Pokemon lines for all time, I don't think they've been accessible in the main game routes since HeartGold and SoulSilver and I hope they get to be reintroduced or even given a new evolution or regional variant at some point.
They were really fun to use, and fight in the wild. Ursaring on other hand was really annoying, but when Game Freak gived him a regional variant it finally fixed it.
Love seeing porygon getting some attention! I found an alpha porygon 2 early game, used MP to evolve it, and was surprised by how long I kept him on my team!
I didn’t expect to keep drifblim for very long but it ended up being a great utility role to help stall/catch battle Pokémon. Even though it’s hard to wall alphas in this game, drifblim has unique immunities to two strong offensive types and hypnosis + mystical fire. I ended up keeping it permanently and it’s now level 86
Actually, you CAN farm a Reaper Cloth by fighting any members of the Duskull family, no distortion needed. Off the top of my head, the easiest place to go for this would probably be by the wrecked ships in the Cobalt Coastlands at night. Just start re-killing Duskulls until one drops it.
ther is an lpha floating around that area at night, and hes not so hard to catch, i got one easily and he is a great addition , i used him most of the playthrough
When I was ten, I did a nuzlocke, and my Driftblim was the last pokemon I had when i beat that nuzlocke. I had caught it at the beginning, and it was probably my best pokemon at some point in time.
dusknoir: no need to evolve, 16:10 one is on the "hand" (wrist really) in cobalt coast. actually, you hammer on evolution a lot in this video, and in arceus it's a non issue. you can find alphas of all of these in the wild, with the exception of porygon, and its evo items are so unbelievably common it is comical
Octilery is very underrated! I had one on my final team in shield and it came on clutch against Leon’s Charizard lol I have an alpha In PLA and when I go around with an alpha team soon, it’ll for sure be on there :)
I must give a shoutout to toxicroak, the mon that carried me through every noble battle in the game due to the poison fighting type being good against every single noble. Plus the good speed and attack makes it an excellent mon
For me personally it’s Purugly! Purugly has always been fast but now with grits and giving it a perfect 10 EV level, it’s EXTREMELY fast and can even provide strong attack and good defence ! It attacks multiple times in a row due to agile style ! It is now my ace Pokémon! And it learns SOOOOO many moves !!
Porygon-Z was on my finalized team and it's combination of great special attack, coverage and a passable speed stat made it a very appealing option to me.
I used drifblim throughout my whole playthrough. I got lucky and got a shiny before I even beat ursaluna so I had a shiny drifblim on my team the whole playthrough and helped in so many battles ✨
I actually never thought of using Tangrowth in the game, but I found a random shiny Tangela and decided to keep her as my main grass type. She got me through quite a few tough battles.
To this day, I'm still pretty confused as to why Drifblim was Fantina's opener and not her ace. I think that was the original intent, considering her aesthetics are even based on Drifblim with her hair being the 4 "straps" and the yellow X on her dress.
My problem is still just getting stuck in the 6 pokemon team that I was using for the majority of the game. I'm at the step of completing my dex, and it just gets difficult to go back and train pokemon up to the high 70s.
10:48 YES! My favorite Water type! My Alpha Modest nature Octillery is a vital asset to my team, having Energy Ball, Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, and Sludge Bomb. He’s an absolute beast, and Legends Arceus made me appreciate it that much more :)
I ended up finding a Porygon 2 and a Dubious Disk in the same Space Time Distortion on my first play through. My Porygon Z (which I nicknamed .exe) was amazing and I’m so happy I got it! :D
Same! I got the dubious disk super early. Then I got a porygorn and I was HUNTING for an upgrade item. But I ended up finding a Porygorn Z first so I evolved him asap! He looks so out of place in ancient time but that makes it even cooler.
used the porygon line for the first time in this game and i don't regret it at all! definitely a staple, and will use it in the future. love the lil guy
You can actually catch dusknoir at night (I think its an alpha but I dont remember) At dead wood taunt or whatever its called. I've caught many there! There pretty easy to catch if your using the right pokeball.
Going into the game I was planning on using Vaporeon as my water type but in the Cobalt Coastlands I found the alpha Octillery at Lv. 40 and ever since it’s been on my team 👌
Y’all just keep sleeping on my girl Whiscash. She transformed from just a coverage/staller into all out MVP during that Arcanine fight. Easily my favorite personal memory from my first Arceus playthrough.
I was very unsure about this game and only bought it to get Arceus in BDSP but the standout Pokemon for me are Ursaluna, Blissey, Chatot, Hippowdon and Electivire. Electivire packed one hell of punch for me against Volo I caught it as an Alpha just before the summit of Mount Coronet but I have found a new love for Blissey she won me the Volo battle and god can she take hits. Hippowdon (Male) is a Pokemon I have used on a recent playthrough of Platinum and it won me the Cynthia battle it was on the team for a while until I got Ursaluna which I adore Chatot while it looks weak do not underestimate it as I found it came in very useful in certain situations and I also used it as my main Flying type on a recent Platinum playthrough. Octillery is awesome in Colosseum and I used it on a recent playthrough and due to teaching it Flamethrower I didn't need a Fire Pokemon on the team but that Alpha you find on the beach packs a punch.
It's funny to me because Chatot looks like it should be stronger. But that may be because I have parrots myself and know how hard they can bite, so I'd expect Chatot to do likewise.
I feel like Tentacruel is slept on a lot in this game as well. It’s relatively fast with base 100 speed, it can be caught in the mid game pretty easily, it gets solid coverage moves, and with the proper investment with the grit items, it can threaten a majority of Volo’s team.
1 thing that should be noted about poregon z is you can find poregon, poregon 2 and poregon z all in a time space rift . That's how I got my poregon z and it is amazing
I got the alpha octillary pretty early on and used it through end game and an alpha chansey i liked them both for different reasons (chansey mostly for tanking lol)
I'd argue Rampardos is one of the best 'sneak attack' pokemon since if you get a critical back strike youre guaranteed to get the first hit basically nullifying how bad its speed is.
My first shiny on Legends Arceus was a shiny Drifloon. Not only was it just a gorgeous shiny, both it and Drifblim, but it was also extremely useful and stayed on my team throughout the entire game. Love my big golden ball.

Another great thing about Hippowdon in this game: You no longer have to worry about how the rest of your team will be affected by Sand Stream to the fact that abilities don't exist.
Plus it gets gigia impact with no cool down and stealth rocks plus the elemental fangs
But without abilities, most Pokémon are completely useless
@@omarmendez0402 regigigas still has slow start even abilities were removed
Yet Regigigas is still gimped with slow start smh
Yep, except regigigas…
That alpha Octillery on the beach I carried on my team until the end. I never used Octillery but I put miles into it in this game.
Me with Hipopowdon

I like the Dex forcing us to use all Pokémon for the same reason. I’m starting to see uses for Pokémon that I otherwise haven’t used before.
This was a pretty good case in Colo/XD. I never enjoyed using Noctowl, Granbull or Ampharos until I played them in doubles
I used a shiney octillary for about 15 minutes and it’s REALLY good (it got replaced by alpha Empoleon, on a team of alphas)
I’m gonna say right now that Watching an alpha octillery use strong style hyper beam is bad ass 😂
Fits it perfectly
What do you mean you need Reaper Cloth to use Dusknoir? Just catch the Alpha in Cobalt Coastlands. It's by the ships every night. Save the 1,400 MP
Agreed.
