- Produced with CyberLink PowerDirector 21..A test using the new Hornby Magnetic couplings , which come in 2 types. ..Buckeye and Vacuum Pipe …both proved to be very good , I would recommend the longer Vacuum pipe ones if you have sharper curves on your layout ..
Nice demo David. They are powerful cuppers to hold so many traine care.
Hi Nick ,yes great they are very strong magnets , makes it easier for changing rakes … cheers Dave
I like them Dave, the vacume ones I mean. You gave it some very good tests, thanks. They will be on my shopping list.
Barry.Devon
Hi Barry , yes best of the 2 ,I would recommend 100% , as seen they are strong , far superior to some on the market … cheers Dave
Hi Dave, Very good couplings .And running session...Dave 🚂🚂👍👍
Thank you Dave , yes well pleased with these couplings .. cheers Dave
@@howarth004 Hi Dave,Look very strong ...Cheers ...Dave 🚂🚂
wow , those couplings sure are strong to pull all those others , for saying how small they are , brilliant 🚉
Hi Lori , yes well pleased with them , they look good as well ,but like the real pipes , even ordered 2 more packs … Cheers Dave
Great pictures.
Cheers
those look really good David and they work well, i need to change some of my older rolling stock over the nem pockets
Hi Digger ,yes well worth converting do you can use these , fully recommend them .. cheers Dave
The new hornby couplings look good, I’ve yet to try mine on my new hornby Midland Pullman HST MK3s they seem more sturdy than the hunts I’ve had a few of those snap on me in the past. Like the truck too! Cheers Ryan
Hi Ryan ,yes well worth buying ,like you I had problems with the other magnetic couplings , these are far stronger and look the part also , well worth buying … Cheers Dave
Looking good. Have to try them. Excellent video. The Deltic sound is awesome 👌. Cheers Chris
Thank you Chris , yes well worth buying these couplings , especially the vacuum type as that bit longer and more realistic ..cheers dave
Great video David enjoyed the circuits with the camera, couplings look great
Thank you David , yes very happy with those couplings , think Hornby have excelled themselves with these , that camera is the small Mobius , they are very good for the size f them ..cheers Dave
Excellent running session. It is also nice to know that people can still drink oxo.
Thank you Alan , yes we all used to love that years ago , now its all Marmite , and Bisto , instead of Oxo and Bovril ...Cheers dave
Hi Dave, That was a grand run, the couplings look ok , bit easy for uncoupling, you do give me some ideas, Stay safe All the best Brian 😃
Hi Brian ,thanks and yes they are very good , well worth giving them a try … cheers Dave
The buckeye would be life like between coaches and the vacuum pipe would suit between the the loco.....Best wishes Chris
Hi Chris , yes the buckeye is a bit short so depends on the coaches , but those vacuum ones are spot on , shall be changing a good few of mine , just ordered 2 more packs ...Cheers DAve
Thay look a vast improvement on the previous ones Dave, good on Hornby.....Bob
Hi Bob ..yes would recommend to be used especially the vacuum type , the best magnetic i have used ....Cheers Dave
Those couplings look great. Much nicer than the standard hook affairs that come as standard. Your layout looks brilliant too buddy.
Thank you Andrew , yes they are a very sturdy and look the part , as I have said the vacuum type seem to be the best and they are a shade longer so far better for curves and short coupling coaches , I fully recommend them .., cheers Dave
Still love that blue Deltic D.D. ❤️
Those locos can certainly can stretch their legs on your layout mate 👍
Yes they do ,like greyhounds they just have to go .. lol Yes I live the Deltics hence have 3 of them … Cheers Dave
They are £16 a pack from hornby, I got both lengths of the vacuum pipes, they are great if you haven't gone to magents yet try them! I did manage to snap one trying to get it in a tight pocket though.
Hornby mk1/2 coaches 1 short on front (R7400 17mm) 1 long on back (R7399 20mm) on each coach works best, mk3 coaches need 20mm both ends tested on r2 r3 r4. 12x mk1/2 coaches up 2% incline never had a magnet link break, but they did start poping out of some nem pockets.
My locos need long magnet unless has forward movment (kinamatic?) in the nem pocket short is ok.
Hornby short wagons don't bother if the coupling is fixed in place on the wagon they wont make it round r2, bogie wagons are fine.
Yes as you say need to be tried , I did try some earlier ones from another company and found they broke very easily , I have found these HORNBY ones a lot more sturdy and the magnets are a lot stronger.
Definatley well worth trying.have found some .£1 cheaper and half the cost of postage … cheers Dave
Great running session. David those couplings are a beast! Thanks for sharing. Dave
Hi Dave , yes well worth buying , i found the vacuum type to be the best being double magnet and like a pipe connection ..cheers dAve
What a great idea that really proves to be reliable.
Hi Mike , yes fsr better than the previous ones i had from another supplier , these are a bit dearer but well worth it ..cheers DAve
Very helpful video. Thanks Dave. Love the lorry!!
Thank you Paul ..yes all ready now for rapid deliveries ..got my bwon Transport ..cheers Dave
Great video, layout and rolling stock. I don't have many British trains on my layout, but I might have to get one of those light blue Deltic diesel locos. Keep up the good work !!!
Thank you , that light blue Deltic the DP1 is a bachmann model , runs very nicely , my favorite loco`s th deltics ...Cheers DAve
@@howarth004 Thx, now I only need someone in the US or who ships to the US to get one...
@@tomsmaerklintrainlayout6742 this is on e bay same supplier i got mine from NRM ...not sure about shipping to US though www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255976404673?hash=item3b9961f6c1:g:UNAAAOSwJ59j6R6O...Dave
@@howarth004 Thx for the link, will check it out.
The new couplings are a real winner, I agree the vacuum ones look realistic on the coach trains. Nice running session as always. Cheers 🍺
Hi David , yes they are the best of the two , I like them that much just ordered 2 more packs , shall replace a lot of my fleet with these over a period of time ..cheers Dave
Very nice Dave, I need to work out which of my coaches the will fit on. Some of my coaches needs the D coupling’s replacing with nem pockets.
Old D fittings need changing to N E M Simon , well worth it these are great , a lot stronger than the other type of magnetic , I shall change mine over in time .. cheers dave
Great vid Dave, and I really like those couplings, especially the vacuum pipe ones 👌🏻
You and me both for those vacuum connections Dave , they are first class , just ordered 2 more packs myself ..cheers dave
Good bit of film work there Dave. I like your vacuum pipe couplings.
Glad you enjoyed it Andrew , those couplers are first class .. cheers Dave
Hi Dave - Thanks for the demo, forgot these were out from Hornby so just ordered a couple of packs to try them out. Your layout is looking good as usual, hope you are keeping well, John
your welcome John , yes well worth buying those longer vacuum are just right for almost all Locos and stock and they look the bees ...cheers Dave
Great running session presenting interesting items. 👍 I like your new truck🙂 Take care Cheers Andy 🤠
Glad you enjoyed it andy , yes the truck was a birthday gift ..cheers Dave
They look really good and seem to work well. I couldn’t get on with hunts as my layouts not dcc and on double headed trains would derail. Layout looks great as usual Dave.
Tha nk you re my layout , yes these are a lot better , the longer ones vacuum pipe type are better , i have ordered some more as that pleased with them ..cheers Dave
Those couplings look the business, I'm thinking of getting the Vacuum ones, but just fitting to the loco and first coach of my rakes and continue to use the Bachmann Vacuum pipe connector between the coaches as they run in fixed formation and couple close. Keep up the good work
Hi Kev , thats what i have done just loco and first coach , but will fit them to my pullman coaches as non apart form the bachmann fixed pipe connector seem to hold them right , but you need to be able to break the rake up easier , which with these you can do ...well worth the money ..cheers dave
Those magnetic coupling look brilliant and very realistic when compared with anything else I’ve seen for some time , price is everything t
They are more expensive , but very very good ,should say twice more powerful than others on the market .. Cheers Dave
Good video…I’ll get some to try out..
@@richardswallow1967 The vacuum ones are the best Richard 👍
Hello Dave I have been using hunts couplings for some time now but may give these a go 😊 interesting project enjoyed. the cab run extremely good quality picture cheers al 👏👏🚂🤗👍
Go for it Al , they are far superior to hunts , the vacuum ones are the best they look the part and are very strong … cheers Dave
@@howarth004 👏🚂🤗👍
Great run Dave, the layout looks awesome! 😀
Thank you ..those couplings are great ..cheers dave
@@howarth004 Your welcome!
Hi Dave one problem with this system is when its comes to uncoupling wagons but other than that they look great. Nice layout you have there
Hi Kevin , well not really a problem , old fashioned way just pull apart , thanks re my layout ..cheers Dave
Hi Dave they are really good magnetic couplings. I think I will try the vacuum pipe one as they look the business. I think they must be the best thing to of come out of Hornby recently. All the best Pete 👍
They are Peter I would recommend 100% they are a 1st class product the vacuum pipe is so realistic also .. but expensive but you get what you pay for … cheers Dave
I like the look of these new couplings. I want to try some. I too stopped using the 'other' couplings because of quality issues. The coupling kept pulling out from the NEM pocket. A bonus seeing the SP1 too :)
Hi Michael , yes these new ones from Hornby are a must , the vacuum ones are better as a shade lounger and double magnets , but the other is strong , as you say the previous ones we had were tending to break and loosing strength, my Deltic DP1 was an old one from bachmann , when i say old about 4 years since they were reasonably priced from York Railway museum ...Cheers Dave
Superb couplings..
Still using the mobius,
I still use mine every day as a dash cam....
Hi Jim , yes still using the Mobius ...those couplings really are first class the longer Vacuum pipe ones are just the ticket ..cheers Dave
Thanks for this video Dave. I’ve had some problems with random uncoupling coaches recently and have been considering magnetic couplings. These look just the ticket. Will hunt them out. (Pun intended). Roy.
HI Roy , yes these are the better ones from Hornby , i tried the hunt ones and to be honest a bit week on the plastic so they break , and not as powerful magnets ....fully recommend these ..cheers Dave
Hi David, good honest review, I want to try these on my rolling stock, thanks for doing this video. Your DP1 what brand is it? Hornby are bringing one out sometime this year, maybe Accurascale will do an exclusive version.
Those couplings are very good. , my DP 1 is a Bachman model .., cheers Dave
Might have to get myself some magnetic couplers!
Well worth the money , these are the better ones ...cheers Dave
Nice system but if they really want to capture the market they need to make cranked variants for bachmann mk1s, mk2s etc. I have Bachmann DMU couplings on all my coaches which give close gaps and have a cranked variant. Hunts on End of sets and locos!
I have hunts on some of mine but found they do break a bit too easy and some seem to loose there strength , but will say these seem to be a lot stronger all round , the vacuum type to me will fit most with men pockets … cheers Dave
Certainly look good kit, thanks for posting. May invest in the buckeye ones for my DMUs and semi fixed form coach sets. Will probably leave the NEM tension locks on the outer ends for now and see how it goes. Question... where do you get your backscenes from?
Hi Martin , those backscenes were from gaugemaster , .. the HORNBY couplers are first class .. cheers Dave
Those couplings seem to be fabulous Dave. What controler are you using now?
Hi Brian , yes well happy with these magnetic couplers ,I’m using the Ecos controller … Cheers Dave
@David Howarth many thanks Dave
Hello Dave. Big southern softie here. When I were a lad, Lego trains had magnetic couplings. But you had to get the wagons the right way round or the couplings repelled each other. Is it the same with these?
NO THE HORNBY ONES VACUM TYPE FIT BOTH ENDS WITH 2 MAGNETS ON EACH END ...THEY ARE GOOD
Bloody hell Dave hearing you got me out of breath mate, lol, which do you prefer? Hornby or Hunts - which has the best quality and price, etc??. Thanks mate.
I’m always like that ..ha ha … as for the best these are far superior to hunts , had those first and endless problems with breaking and unable to hold ,these are far stronger and look great … cheers Dave
Well I like you did invest In them Other magnetic Couplers But Because of that Covid I dint fit many the Only thing you Forgot Dave was How Much they Going to cost per PKT Love your Mini Cam shots the sound on the track is awesome thanks mate
Hi Anthony , yes they are great but dont come cheap 8 sets for £15 direct from Hornby ..cheers dave
QO Hldr- Brilliant
Thank you , yes they are good ,
@@howarth004 yes they are sir, my former Regiment and I also own the same loco. Is yours the Bachman DCC sound fitted? Mine seems to be a bit temperamental, not sure if I need to give it a good service or get a new microchip. Have you had any issues?
I like your "DAVID" lorry Dave, I could use one of those. I'm not sold on the couplers though. If you have the vacuum style on the coaches and the buckeye style on the loco, you cannot couple them because they are at different heights. They are another Hornby gimmick in my eyes but if they work for you then I suppose they are OK. David.
Well the answer to that is have the same type on the set loco and coach , i only tried to show the difference , they are first class so I cannot knock them the vacuum is the loger and with 2 magnets you could pull a hell of a lot of weight ...don't dismiss till you try them ..Cheers Dave
Hi Dave, those vacuum ones look really good did you get them straight from Hornby or a local shop cheers Al
Hi Al I got mine direct from HORNBY £15 not cheap but very good ..cheers Dave
Would you say those magnetic cooplers are "Strong Little Buggers" ?
I certainly would , the vacuum ones especially with double magnets ....Cheers DAve
Are these poled? or will they all attract, without repelling?
Not exactly sure what you mean , but one does pull to the other , is that called poled ? Strong magnet on both
Hi Dave, How much are they ? Cheers Greg
Hi Greg I paid £15 for 8sets direct from HORNBY .. cheers Dave
@@howarth004 Thanks Dave Cheers Greg
Hi Dave How much did the magnetic couplings cost please
Hi Malcolm they are both £15 for a set of 8 ,,that was direct from HORNBY ,great product .. cheers Dave
Hi david, these couplers look very good to me, I'll have to test them. Gérard.
