you forgot to mention Rene Bourque was the catalyst for Montreal in the 2014 playoffs where he scored 11 points in 17 games, scoring 8 goals.
Loved him in Calgary. Such a shame that hit basically ruined his career.
This is how I remember him from his time in mtl ^^^
I'm a MTL fan who came to the comments to say exactly this. I remember they called him Rene "The Bear" Bourque because he'd hibernate all winter but wake up in the spring.
@@Gravy_Jones22 he should have succeeded in MTL
@@jomiannojn4426 boy did he ever show up
Matt Duchene was traded mid-game. You did a video on this Steve, come on!
I was gonna say the same thing. It's pretty iconic how he got traded
Joseph Batnjana even funnier that they had to sneak him out with another player that got injured.
Ducky that’s a dangit.
Was just coming to say this!
I was thinking the same. I remember when that happened.
"You guys wanna talk about the Mike Cammalleri trade?"
Me (a huge habs fan): no ..... :( not really
Me (as a flames fan): not really either, even though I miss Cammalleri a bit
Rene Bourque was actually very good in the 2014 playoffs for the Habs scoring 8 goals in 17 games.
5:40. The Canadiens traded Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins for Karri Ramo. Cedric Paquette is a 4th liner in TB.
Ugh. Thank you for pointing that out. Misspoke. Fixing it.
@@SteveDangle there's nothing to fix, Cedrick Desjardins was a backup goalie for the Habs and Bolts in like 2010
no he's not😏
Rene Bourque was a beast in the 2014 playoffs though!
Man, it's getting to the point where I start looking at the 2008-2014 years as the "old days".
I lived in the capital region the year the Adirondack Flames were a thing and saw Ryan Culkin play regularly. He always stood out to me as being a mobile defenseman who thought the game really well. Good thing I'm not in hockey ops, but I do wonder why he never got a whiff of the show.
I love these trade trees videos keep them coming!!!
Craig Rivet to San Jose has some fun pieces spawn from it
Yea Montreal basically skinned San Jose on that one
He would run out of room and the video would be wayyy too long
@@glaframb Norlinder.
Basically Mtl swaped is 2nd for a 3rd and 5th finally drafting both of these prospects.
LA Kings selected Fagemo with the 2nd
Do the Derrick Brassard-Mika Zibanejad trade lol
YES
That starts with Marian Gaborik to Columbuf.
However the Fucale pick in 21-22 doesn't look so horrible RIGHT NOW in January. For the Hershey Bears in 2020-21 the kid was 9 and 2 with a shutout and a .932 save percentage. He finally made his NHL Debut this season for the Caps and he has played only 2 games but the first one was a shutout win the second a loss in the shoot out. He's currently sitting on a .980 through those two games. Goalies man.....just what.
Rene Bourque was a legend during Montreals cup run in 2014
wasnt matt duchene traded during a game?
yea
November 5th 2017 against the Islanders, he left midway in the first sneaking off when Blake Comeau was leaving with an injury
This tore open an old wound - I first started properly following hockey the year he torched the penguins for 7 goals in 7 games. He and PK are still my favourite players despite being retired. I still remember watching that game vs. Boston with my dad.
As a Mooseheads fan, I remember being PISSED that the Flames passed over Fucale like 3 times, and then had the 2nd round pick they gave up being the pick that took him.
I'm fat and stupid.
That hair is Jim Benning slick
We want Lindros!
So did the flyers
Joe Thornton to San Jose happened in the middle of a sharks game. Sturm, Primeau, and Stuart were pulled off the bench
It's actually happened quite a few times in the MLB.... As a matter of fact, I forgot the player but between games of a a doubleheader this player was traded to the opponent they were playing. So he played the first game for his former team and in the second game he played against his former team.... It's actually kind of funny because all he had to do was just walk down the hallway to his new teams locker room and meet his new teammates he was just playing against a couple of hours prior..
I've also seen MLB players get traded to teams the players team was currently playing a series against, but I have also seen that in the NHL too, where a player is traded and his first game on his new team is against the team that just traded him..... I think one player was traded to a team they were about to play a few hours later...
It's a pretty amusing subject really and must be highly confusing for the player traded because one hour you're teammates and buddies with these guys and an hour later you're playing against them for a new team.
Hey, it's sports and sports is a business and trades happen - even if you're trading a player to a team you're about to play against in a few hours..
I could be wrong on this one tho, this is back in the 80's but I do kinda remember a story of a MLB player being traded IN GAME (like the 4th inning) to the team he was playing against, and the team that acquired him actually inserted him into the lineup to boot - so he played half of the game for the team that traded him and the other half of the game for the team that acquired him.......
Yea, when it comes to transactions baseball is above and beyond bizarre when it comes to trades...
I mean hockey is my first sport, but I like to watch a little bit of baseball too on occasion if it doesn't conflict with NHL playoff games.
I forget if it was Toronto to Ottawa, or Ottawa to LA but I'm pretty sure Phaneuf was traded mid game. I remember watching the game because it was against the Pens and I thought it was super weird he got traded mid game too
Both players where big in Montreal reaching the third round
Found this after seeing a clip of Cammalleri's recent visit back to the Bell Centre since his retirement. Bourque was 3 games into a 5 game suspension when the Habs traded for him. Not smart thinking by GM Gauthier, who was already under fire for firing Jacques Martin, and the interim coach went around 3-8 afterward. Cammalleri was dealt after he made what he thought were private comments to a reporter, that the Habs had a losing mentality. The reporter used them in a story. The French media made it worse ("Cammalleri calls Habs Losers"),and Gauthier panicked.
You need to make an update for Fucale ;)
Cammalleri, the only dude who looked annoyed when he scored. Like he should have done it sooner. Love him.
We should get the Schneider trade that ended up bringing Horvat to YVR
it literally ends right there
It was Cedrick Desjardins, not Paquette.
You Can't Put and In the same sentence
As a flames fan, I remember I was ecstatic when they acquired cammalleri. My all time favourite flame
Next Habs trade should be the Craig Rivet trade. Thank you for these !
here after zach fucale played his first nhl game for the the caps and got a 21 save shutout
Missed out on Fleury on the list of Luongo, Brodeur, Roy
I saw Fucale play for the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL.
Matt Duchene was traded mid game on November 5th, 2017 when he was traded from the Colorado Avalanche to the Ottawa Senators where the Avs got Samuel Girard, Vladislav Kamenev and a 2018 2nd round pick from the Predators, and Andrew Hammond, Shane Bowers and 2018 1st and 3rd round picks from the Senators. The Predators got Kyle Turris. And of course the Senators got Matt Duchene. The game was against the New York Islanders. Duchene snuck off the ice in the middle of the first period when Blake Comeau was being helped off of the ice with an injury. You covered the that trade 2 weeks ago, but didn't mention that fact, lol.
did calgary hit their goal? yes they did, their goal with the trade wasnt to win the stanley cup, it was to improve their team, im sure calgarys gm wasnt dellusional enough to think mike cammalleri was the missing piece to a champioshipn he was thinking this trade will improve my team and it did from a production standpoint, you cant boil down success of a team to one player if that success is based on championships and playoffs when theres a 22 man roster, this isnt the nba
Steve do chris Kreider “falling” into Carey price
You might want to think about the infancy of free agency at some point. When free agents teams had to deal with compensation I.e the Scott Stevens signing by the Blues and subsequent signing of Brendan Shanahan that sent Stevens to the Devils.
Duchene got traded to Ottawa in the middle of an Avs Isles game a couple years ago.
I love these trade trees videos!
Is it bad when he was talking about the 2013 second rounder he named the stats and all star and I was thinking Jarry? Lol
"Wins are a terrible way to judge a goaltender"
*Every Brodeur fan's head explodes in unison.*
His other number are quite good too, He also didn't win many 7-5 games.
@@cyborgdata yeah, Especially in the 2003 Stanley cup finals when he had 3 shutouts in 7 games, meaning that 3 of the 4 wins needed for the cup were Brodeur Shutouts. Oh, and he has better career and playoff Save percentages and GAA than Roy, the most career shutouts (regular season and playoff), 4 Vezinas, and from 1997-2008 played in 10 consecutive 70 game seasons and is plastered all over the record books. He was pretty good. Brodeur also didn't abandon his team because they lost success. Now, I'm not going to compare him to Hasek, because in my opinion Hasek is by far the most talented goalie in history, but Brodeur was very good, and if you're going to compare him and Roy, whom a lot of people include in the discussion of greatest goaltenders, then it's hard to argue that Brodeur wasn't the better of the two in regard to career and talent. All due respect to Roy, he changed the game and goaltending helping to really solidify the butterfly style, and is one of the greatest, but Brodeur has him in career and talent, and Hasek has him in at bare minimum talent, yet also had a pretty great career
The Honey Camper and a few of those wins came as a Blue...LGB
How about Selanne to Anaheim from Winnipeg. I think it helped out both the Ducks and Devils in 2003
Zachary Fucale... Oh boy yeah... He was supposed to be the next big thing in case Price didn't resign in Montreal (y'know, his current 8x10.5?) then there was also Dustin Tokarski and Mike Condon who were supposed to be big... A few years down the line, these are the reasons why I'm doubtful when I hear about Cayden Primeau, which NOW in 2021 is the "next big thing". Guess we'll see!
Also, funnily enough, talking about QMJHL churning good goalies, there was talk back in that era that Jake Allen was up and coming to be big, too. I even heard analysts say he was gonna be the next Carey Price (with similar styles and all that). Funnily enough, he's now second to Price! The world's a small place I tell ya!
What about the Ryan Orielly trade.. Just a 2nd waiting.. Id like to see a video on it
I forget did you ever do the Kaberle trade? its a great example on how not to manage assets
You should do the Craig Rivet trade tree in a decade or two when it over... 13 years and counting and it still ongoing.
Matt Duchene was traded midgame too
No regret for this. Made Cap space and Bourque was a stud in the 2014 playoffs
Harrison Barnes was traded mid game to the Kings from the Grizzlies. Oh yeah also the game he was traded was the game where he was playing the kings
All I remember of the Cammalleri trade was that right before it happened, he was trash talking the team after a loss against St. Louis. Everyone knew he was gonna be traded after that, but it was still surprising to see it happen during the next game
He said his team was losers so,plus he was one of the best players of 2010, plus bourque was good in 2014 playoffs
He used to be my one of my favorite players
Your job must be incredibly difficult. I commend you sr for your hard work.
Rene bourque was a scoring master in that 2014 playoff run
Montreal is known to be a very classy organisation to its players. If they trade you mid game....then the issue isnt just cap related....specially according to all the good sources
Should do Jumbo Joe's or Brent Burn's both are pretty infamous trades
3:38 Duchene was traded mid-game
i was a Ramo fan
Duchene got traded mid game to the sens from the avs vs the islanders
this video was posted on my birthday... huh... and it involves my favourite team: Calgary Flames
Do the Craig Rivet Trade. Fascinating
Dion Phaneuf was traded mid-game to LA, wasn't he?
Fucale’s issue was unfortunately being in Montreal and not being given a chance by them. Obviously he shouldn’t have gone in the early 2nd round, and more towards the late 2nd round, but I think if he went to another team he might have got a shot
That trade broke my heart.
Dion Phaneuf got traded mid game
Do a Trevor Linden trade tree! please and thank you!
that year was a gong show... the GM was hated and wags nicknamed him "The Ghost"... Jacques Martin was sacked and replaced by someone who could not speak French causing ... some people to react badly.
Eric Lindros trade in the future?
Yep!
@@SteveDangle Can you also remind us what the Rangers had offered the Nordiques in that very strange trade process?
Fun fact about Cammalleri.
After the trade Pierre Gauthier, Gm at the time for the Habs, wanted to make Cammalleri pay if he wanted to keep the Habs jersey
I keenly recall Cammy snapping in a media scrum about how bad the habs were and he was seriously miffed. I thought that was the primary reason Cammy got ranked and traded back to the place he should have been all along.
Matty D was traded mid game
in short, the CH wanted to get rid of a big salaray (Cammalleri). That's why the trade did not matter much.
Would have been better if he had been on the ice when he had been traded. Would he have skated to the bench? Or just stopped skating and waited for a whistle to be transported to the dressing room?
Zach Fucale’s time in the NHL is not soon. The guy may be a life time AHLer, he’s struggled their and mostly been an ECHL guy, including this last year when he left during the year to go to Europe
Russ Coutrnall and Esa Tikkenen traded from Vancouver to the Rangers mid third period. Both guys got yanked from the ice
Pronger & Shannahan
Futur Dang-it Kreider on Price !?!?!?
Didn’t Duchene get traded mid game & came off & headed down tunnel with a teammate that was hurt?
Rick Nash trade???
Bourque was so good in the playoffs tho
Cammalleri was so good in the playoffs tho
(09-10) 19 playoff games: 13g 6a
(10-11) 7 playoff games: 3g 7a
Fucale tool awhile to develop. He should be good for the capitals this season.
No Montreal messed up
Matt Duchene was traded mid-game
Yeah I hate saying It but unless he gets a call up and a re-sign in Vegas or gets a guaranteed AHL job next season with some other team, Fucale's time isn't coming soon.
Do Joe Nieuwendyk to the Devils from the Stars
Who’s here after fucale had 3 straight shut outs
DUCHENE WAS TRADED MID GAME AGAISNT THE ISLES!! BARZAL HAD 5 POINTS HOW CAN YOU FORGET THAT GAME?!?
God I love cammy
We got the 2014 playoff run out of Bourque which is 1000% worth it.
Montreal made it to the conference finals a season later And it was not that bad of a trade
No..... no, no, no, no, no. This is not the Rivet trade.
Do Joe Thorton next
Do the Craig Rivet Josh Gorges trade
bourque-eller-weise was awesome
Im pretty sure Matt Duchene was traded mid game to Ottawa
They didn't trade him to free up cap space, it was because he spoke out against the organization. Freeing up cap space wasn't on their minds. They were focused on getting him out of the lineup because they didn't want his mindset spreading to other players.
Not NHL but Harrison Barnes got traded mid game
Do the Patrick Roy trade
Karri
It happened midgame because Pierre Gauthier. Do I put all the problems of the 2010-2012 Canadiens on Pierre Gauthier? Yes.
