    from a comparison video on the plexi vs metal blade, it's probably better to use the metal blade. you'll get less of a burnt edge.

    So glad I have found your video. Thank you.
    Question: have you ever smoothed the edges with a torch?

      I haven't on this one but I have before with a very hot electric heat torch.

    Good Video got what i needed and the music is fine LOL mute it if you dont like the music. I would much rather hear the music over the sound of the jigsaw.

    Is there another way without needing a piece of wood? Also what if i need to cut a window in the middlem

    • @JGJeffGardner
      @JGJeffGardner  4 года назад +2

      You can do it without the wood if you make sure you clamp the plexiglass to stop it vibrating. The wood is just to help revent plexiglass from vibrating and ruining the edge. If you want to cut a window or a hole in middle its quite simple, drill a hole thats just bigger than the size of saw blade, then start cutting from inside the hole. If you take care you shouldnt have any issues.

    Is there some important reason for that background "music?"

      Is there some important reason that you feel compelled to comment on a users music? Is there some reason you need to be fundamentally judgmental and nasty in general, while never creating your own content? Is there some reason you feel the need to find a solution to your problem online and not be grateful for the person who showed you?

    As a new homeowner, my wife and I want to skin our lanai's screened wall with acrylic panels. I watched your video to learn how to work with acrylic. Do you think drilling multiple screw holes along the edges of the panels would allow the panels to be held up with screws to the aluminum frame? We even thought we would use double-sided Flex tape between the aluminum beams and screw holes to create a softer contact and some gasket effect (hope I used that word correctly). We keep watching videos to get a sense of how much acrylic can take in stress--hanging from screw holes, or what will stick to them. If you have an opinion, thanks in advance for sharing.

      4 or 5mm acrylic is surprisingly strong and will certainly do the job for you. What I do if I screw through acrylic is to use washers between screw head and acrylic to spread the pressure from the screw. It works very well for me.

      Use clamps instead. If you want they are cheap and easily available e

    Is the wood stopping it from fusing back together?

    • @JGJeffGardner
      @JGJeffGardner  4 года назад +2

      The wood is to stop the plexiglass from moving as you saw it. One of the main problems with cutting this type of material is it moving as you cut it and causing the cut to be innaccurate. The wood and the clamp holding the two pices tight prevents this.

    Is there a way to cut plexiglass shapes in the middle? Like if i wanted to cut a square in the center of the sheet?

    • @JGJeffGardner
      @JGJeffGardner  3 года назад +1

      Hi Anastasia, yes you can cut out a square easily too. This video I made shows you how to cut holes in Plexiglass. Cut four holes in the corner of the square you want to cut out and then use the jigsaw to cut between the four holes and you will have a square shaped hole in your plexiglass. ruclips.net/video/QEKn9mCVoLY/видео.html

    Is that 3mm or 4mm. I am wondering how floppy 120cm/4ft (x50cm) would be as I want it to be cheap and light as possible to make a #gerbilarium. Although I would need 4 50cm L-shaped metal corner uprights to slot each panel into, and I doubt they exist.

    • @JGJeffGardner
      @JGJeffGardner  3 года назад +1

      The point of this video is to show you that you can cut any thickness, even really thin sheets, as long as you support it with a backing board.

    Can you cut a circle shape with this jigsaw tool? Circle Diameter is 75 mm.

    • @JGJeffGardner
      @JGJeffGardner  2 года назад +1

      Yes you can, but you might want to cut a bigger circle first with a jig saw as shown, then use a Dremel or some sort of model maker small saw to finish off to the right size

      @@JGJeffGardner Hi there! Great video! What if I want to cut heart shapes? Which type of cutting tools would I need then?

    • @JGJeffGardner
      @JGJeffGardner  3 месяца назад

      @@jessicacollins9455 HI Jessica, you need the same tools as I use in the video. It's just a case of drawing out the heart shape that you require onto the white sheet of paper that is placed between the wooden backing and the plexiglass and then just cutting out the shape.

    Do you need to cut with wood attached as well ?

    • @JGJeffGardner
      @JGJeffGardner  Год назад

      Hi there. The wood is only there to keep the acrylic from vibrating as you cut it. Its much easier and has a smoother finish if you use the wood. So I recommend you do it exactly as in the video.

  • @jimmiller4951
    @jimmiller4951 2 года назад +2

    Sorry this is NOT a good way to do this so let me explain why …….. First of all the bottom shoe of the jig saw will have a tendency to scratch the plexi so at least tape it . You are better to tape around your design and then cut it. Mix a solution of Dawn dish soap and water and spray the area to lubricate is and keep the heat down and lastly , cut a little and back off then a little more and back off to keep the heat down. One last tip , title your video “ Five minute tutorial “.
    That’s all folks !

      It's a demo, so not supposed to be perfect. He didn't spend extra time making the drawing clean or anything so idk why you'd expect the finished product to be exact. Also, it's a free vid why do so many people complain lol.
