    I retired from tower work 14 years ago. Highest I ever worked was 1000', but I had to climb that. No elevator. I was kinda expecting this video to at least be some sort of inspection (or some sort of actual service trip all the way to the top which of course would involve shutting down the transmitter (not popular with the station management obviously) and then actually climbing the stick which I used to do. This was just an elevator ride to near the top and then back down. I'm sorry to say I wasn't impressed. But like the others I'll agree that the drone video quality was good. That tech wasn't around when I was working.

    I was in the tree service for years,both as a climber and in a bucket truck, I remember many times feeling that heart pounding adrenaline rush! Granted, a tree is not even close to 1800 feet, but still most all truth telling veteran tree service professional will tell you that we can relate to the pounding heart rate lol.
    After climbing for years, I finally bought the bucket truck. I remember early on the pounding heart rate while I was trying to adjust to the swaying/bouncy feel of the boom.
    After a while you get good enough at your job that you can potentially be in a danger zoom of being too comfortable.
    Next time you go up try not to think about how old the tower,cables and elevator are - not to mention the compency level of the maintenance crew.
    Nice video...thank you!

    I would go up in the elevator and stand on the platforms. Climbing the ladder is a different story. Maybe, if I could clip in with a carabiner or two, but it would take me at least 2-3 hours to go 1800 feet.

  • @myrrhavm
    @myrrhavm 10 дней назад +1

    Funny he says he’s not afraid of heights, just falling. Feel the same. Being a retired lineman, I’ve climb many poles and towers along with trees having also done tree work. Then only time I ever had concern or thought of falling was when I’d look at some other persons work and wonder if they did their job right. I’d almost be more comfortable climbing that thing than trusting that elevator. Never felt that way in tall trees. Being on that tower as many towers and poles. It was natural to through a wrench in many nuts and bolts and five or try to give them a torque. On poles nuts and bolts had a tendency to loosen due to swelling and shrinking of the stick.
    Seems that should just be a swap out. Not remove, go down, fix, backup and reinstall, then back down.
    But not my job.

    Curious...who owns the tower? Is it shared or just your station? I'm surprised it's not a "buddy" trip both ways for safety. Is that because there is a ground crew making sure everyone is ok? And last question, why does flat Florida need such a tall 1800 foot tower?
    Well done, Adam!

    • @ParkPassTV
      @ParkPassTV  5 месяцев назад

      There’s a large corporation called American Tower that owns most TV Broadcast Towers and we lease space. Sometimes the tv station owns the tower, it just depends.

    • @ParkPassTV
      @ParkPassTV  5 месяцев назад

      Yes it’s alway a good I idea to have two people on the tower and one on the ground. The tower inspector with me was very qualified! TV towers require line-of sight with your home TV and Florida doesn’t have any nature higher elevation for tower installation. Most towers are installed on higher ground. That requires the tower to be extremely high to reach every TV set in our market.

    Being up at that height is no joke. That being said, to glorify this as climbing 1800' is extremely misleading. True, many people do not handle heights well, but let's not advertise this as "climbing". That platform was more than ample to perform your work without serious concern. Show me the men or women that set that tower. Now that is worthy or respect.

    The iron men that climb towers don't come out of an elevator shaking. I had a couple of them climb my tower which was only 50' tall. I ask them have they been on a tall tower today. They said they just came back from one of those 2,000' towers South of Houston (tower alley). There are a lot of 1,800' and 2,000' towers out there.
