Can't say enough about this brand. Phenomenal!! Discovered them back in the 80s this level of quality is rare in today's tool world
...he's lookin' for the one hand action
In a deep hole

@@FunkFPV 😁
Can't blame him with all the strippers in this one
@@RichardBaran never a good place for two hands :)
Those Knipex are the absolute best wiring tool I've ever used. I'm absolutely in love with mine. They've made wiring our systems tolerable. I used to despise wiring, but now it's actually a bit relaxing.
The thing I've found with the tension is that it depends on what kind of knsulation it's stripping more than size (though both do make a difference). Boat cable MTW takes higher tension, but cuts clean. THHN (conduit run wire, the thin double jacket insulation) is super sensitive and takes like 1/3 tension but cuts inconsistently and almost always nips the stranding.
thanks for the shorts and the long-form videos!
after 40+ years of electrical and electronics work, I finally broke down and purchased an expensive set of strippers. I initially looked at the ones you have demonstrated, but ended up buying the KNIPEX NexStrip Multi-Tool for Electricians model 12 72 190.
I think I paid over $200 CDN for them about a year and a half ago. I dont use them all day-every-day, but they probably have over 1000 hours of use. I work in the maritime industry, so for me efficiency and reliability are paramount. these have proven to be well worth the investment.
Wow, after working with electrical and electronics for that long, and you just recently bought a nice set?! Thats crazy! Especially since like you said, efficiency and reliability is key. What did you use before buying the nice set? Or when you arent using the nice ones?
Thanks for watching 😎👍🏻
Somebody left a pair of these on my desk at work... I left them there for a few weeks waiting for their rightful owner to take them back and no one took them. I have a pair now.
My boss: Why are you broke? I just paid you.
Me: Funk FPV posted a tool review again
😂
😜
My response to that question, because a new whiskey/bourbon just came out. Or, because you want to work on your projects around your house all the time, and then you dont want to work the next day, or because you cant get your shit together and set up all the jobs we have to do so i get shit for hours most weeks.
Luckily, i get a decent hourly wage.
@@jacksmith2315luckily I’m salary, with a truck, food hotel and other costs are covered when I’m in the road. He buys tools when I tell him most the time, but sometimes I want the nice shit for me, my helpers can use the bashed up Klein stuff.
I was almost afraid to watch this because I just ordered one of these. Been using plier style just fine for years and also many years ago had tried using a few "automagic" wire strippers that never quite worked well. Looks like these are well liked.
I have the older bluepoint version with the cutter on the bottom, absolutely love them. My application is automotive mostly 12 to 18 gauge wire.
I’ve had the tool aid version for 6-7 years now. They’re well worth the money.
I grew up with the accordion clapper style strippers and my dad had a pair that never ever screwed up once. I've tried to buy that tool a hundred times until I finally got a hold of these "style" strippers. They are the best. Seems like the cheapo ones just crap out after a while but the knipex ones just keep on rolling.
One thing i really like these for is stripping multi conductor cable, like headphone or USB cables. If the tension isnt too heavy, you can strip the outer jacket without harming any of conductor's insulation.
You can do that with a good pair of round cutters and a gentle score. I’d never strip wire with a flat blade.
I have a set of Klein automatic strippers and love them. Made in the USA too.
Same 🤙
Klein is 👑
Some of thier stuff lots of klein is made overseas now @30rdmaga
Yup, link is to a $55 pair. I’ll shop around. Thanks for sharing. I make electronic kits for soldering practice and dabble with different types of wire constantly. Have a 30 plus year old pair of Snap On automatic wire strippers that work great, but looking for something more versatile. Knipex seem to be good tools so I’ll be checking them out. I have a pair of the enamel strippers for magnet wire by Knipex and can’t complain. Thanks for posting this video. Been a fan for some time now. Appreciate your content.
Thanks bud 👍🏻 Shop around for the best price.
I have the same Knipex strippers for seven (!) years now. They're amazing.
I have 2 quite ancient fully automatic. I’m entirely satisfied with them because I am willing to clean and lubricate and adjust them. 💁 Pretty much every time I dink around with them I think “Someone with more sense would have quit screwing with these things years ago.” But about then they work and I have an excuse to not shop for them.
I’m impressed. Not 100% liking the pistol design vs pliers design but I’ll definitely give them a look.
I bought a set of Knipex pliers at a very dear price and love them. I, too, needed a new automatic wire stripper and saw the Knipex version and considered it should be of like quality. The first one broke after about 9 months, the clamping jaw snapped off. Knipex did replace it but they were a little nasty about it. My biggest complaint is that they don't work very well on THHN and similar. If you're doing mostly low voltage, you should be fine.
I was going to get the Knipex 12 52 195 wire stripper. They're $200 here in Kanader and I almost pulled the trigger but I saw a video on them last weekend and they were horrible. The guy demonstrating them used all sorts of wire and it failed on most of them. I was shocked that a Knipex tool was junk. Good to see that this version works nice.
I was looking at them. They’re $200 here too. I don’t need them to be that nice 😜
These are made for Knipex by Jokari (im told) and can sometimes be found cheaper online with that branding - there are a few different sizes. Ive been using the Knipex precistrip16 which are a different style and can strip upto 16mm(6AWG?) they are more expensive and seem to only be sold by Knipex but are awesome for panels
Yea these models are definitely done by Jokari but not sure about their more expensive and newer models. Those expensive models from Knipex are more like the Weidmüller STRIPAX and Weidmüller is cheaper.
The Precistrip were junk for me. It kept slipping off coated wire. I called Knipex and CS told me they aren't made for the American market. They were suppose to exchange them and they sent me the exact same pair. I called them again they told me to keep them and sent me out something else. I still have a brand new pair of the precistrips unopened.
I’m not sure who makes them but the Jokari version cost twice as much.
@@scotts4125 Interested in selling them? I've been thinking about getting a pair for a while. I work with uncoated wire that I think would work well with it.
Yea, on their/jokari website, the secura 2k look exactly the same, same specs, and similar price. They do have more expensive ones as well, but look different
I bought a set of these from Knipex and tossed out all my old style “automatic wire strippers”. I do also have a pair of electrician’s pliers ( like what you showed) from Knipex. The E-pliers have their place. I use them for wiring up a bunch of switches and outlets. I do use the automatic wire strippers to run around the stripping all the wires. The pliers are good for one off installs.
Totally different purpose for both tools. These are for stranded wire, pliers are for solid core.
I have a set of old Stanley’s, they still work, but I don’t use them, real often, they were my Dads! Yours are more better than mine, on the smaller stuff!
I put together control panels and I bought these awhile back. It has some weaknesses over time, but it saves time with repetitive work. Great product for the price i paid @ 40 bucks
I have never met an electrician that uses automatic strippers. I have been an electrician since the early 90’s.
I use them, they are awesome, especially for 18 and smaller guage wire. I'm an industrial electrician, I work on prox wires, encoder wires, and control wires a lot. Makes it super easy, especially setting them the right depth for ferrels.
@@Southernboy302 Are you an electrician? If so, you would be the first one I have ever met that used automatic strippers. If not, my original comment still stands. I am sure somewhere some electrician uses these I am just saying these are not used on job site by pros.
@ivanscountrymusicandcars2357 read my second sentence. I'm an industrial electrician. You may not see them on residential sites running romex, but when working with small guage wire (18 to 28 AWG) encoder, sensors, and control wires, they are great.
@@Southernboy302 I have never heard anyone call themselves an industrial electrician either! But what do I know.
@ivanscountrymusicandcars2357 well... idk what to tell you on that one. Industrial electricians work on mills and big machinery. We do PLCs, logic, prox sensors, robots, cameras, fiber, motor connections, and motor control.... to skim the top of what we do. It's more geared towards industrial maintenance.
I have at least 6 different wire strippers. Knipex is by far the best. I did a big job a while back that needed to use Teflon wire. For those that don’t know, Teflon wire renders most strippers absolutely useless. Normally the only way to do it is to use a thermal tool with a fine wire heating element to melt the teflon. These Knipex strippers though, actually get the job done and didn’t skip a beat. The only one I ever found that comes close is from a brand called Weicon.
So nice you're doing a giveaway for the extra pair of wire shippers that you got.
I sure hope I'm the lucky response!
Haha I would love to do giveaways but they’re more headache than anything. Scammers in the comments and. If I have to ship anywhere out of the US it’ll cost me more than the product.
Here you go again making me look for another tool. Thank you!
I've owned all kinds of different brands of automatic wire strippers. I never liked them very much and it was always a roll of the dice as to how good the stripping job they would do, especially on smaller gauge wires. I bought one of the Kaiweets super wonderful models. They cost about 30 bux, look very nice, but are not great.
I do all my wire stripping by hand these days. I can control it much better. Sure, maybe I'm the problem, but we have to work with what we have to work with.
Yeah, I'ma be honest.
If a tool is available from knipex and ive gotta use it more than once i will just bite the bullet and get the knipex.
They're absolutely worth every cent
Have my own tools from them since 20 years when I was new to the trade
I got a pair of these about 2 years ago and they have been great for me.
The only issue I have ever had with them is sometimes the piece of insulation that you strip off will fall down into the gap between the lower sliding grey jaw and the body of the cutter and get stuck there, then the jaw can't slide all the way back forward. It's not a major issue, usually just hold the tool upside down and cycle it a few times and it drops right out, but it will mess up the next strip if you don't notice it
I bought the Snap-On pair back in the late 1980s, still got them, still use them. 👍
Just bought those a couple months ago. Not bad at all. My go to is the pliers style (PWCS7ACF) but these have there place in the tool box for sure.
Nice! Can’t wait to see how good they are! I like when I get a decent set but they usually suck
That’s pretty much my experience. Hopefully these work out.
Hey Funk! Pro tip : eat 2-3 cloves of garlic a day.
I started doing that five years ago, when the first rumors started circulating about the big scary superflu, and I haven't been sick since.
I was doing that for a while. Made my pee smell funny 😜 It’s better not to get sick
Good morning, hope your day goes great for you and everyone else who reads this
😎👍🏻
The adjustment on top isn't quite tension. It moves the blade up or down relative to the plastic part that holds the wire so you can set exactly how deep the blade cuts in to the insulation.
These are great when working on automation. The consistent lenght is perfect for ferrules. But Jokari Quadro Plus is even better, I don't even know what to call these. Only worth it if you build cabinets from scratch.
Jokari makes a pair just like the knipex.
I used to have a set like that. But i switched to the side cutting self adjusting type stripper/crimper. I just like them better. Gardner Bender brand, part number GS-394. Check em out. There's better ones out there for sure. King tools, Lisle, craftsman. They all make some variant of it. But back when I got mine this is what was available. I've had them 20 years. No complaints.
I've got the Mac Tools branded version of that GS-394, and I like it. It will, however, mark up the un-stripped insulation where the jaws holds it.
I like the MAC tools rebrand. It says MAC as well as a Giant Knipex. Kinda humorous
You give great reviews man, keep it up 👍
Thanks 🙏🏻
I’d wanna try these on some frozen stranded 10awg insulation. That stuff doesn’t wanna budge.
I have these and use them a lot, but I have a Wurth set that I prefer.
If you want a cheap one, I have tried the Weicon and they are also nice.
I have gotten a few knipex and wera things on sale on amazon from either uk or germany warehouses.
I have the snap- on version a decade ago. Still work. Good tool.
Those r nice. Have 2 pair. Been using for three year now.
They are great, rewired my house still working
I got mine from the UK store a few weeks ago and it got here relatively fast.
I found from the UK usually takes about a week
I do a lot of panel work and have the same model. This is as great set.
You need to check that “Engine light”
Am I the first? 😂😂
LoL I get one comment a video 😜
With those old cutters if you just spin the wire couple times you dont need to pull on it. Had a dealer tell me thats how they're designed to work so you dont stretch the wire pulling. Just grip the wire and give er a spinarooni.
Those knipex look nice. The auto strippers i have, i got like 20yrs ago from radio shack, and they arent pistol style like that. You have to feed it through from one side through the other. They are decent. I dont use them often since they're in my tool box in my garage, and i have a set of those milfuckee ones in my tool bag, so i tend to use those more often because they're usually closer to me, and i always forget i still have the auto ones. The milfuckee ones, i got at HD when they do those sales where you can pick from like 5 dif things for $15 each. I got a 2 pack of markers, two 100 pack of utility knife blades, the strippers, and either the 6 in 1 fastback, or one of the other 5 different style fastbacks i have. The milfuckee strippers are ok for a cheap pair or strippers.
The link thingy doesn't bother me whatsoever I'm happy to support you ...
I appreciate it 👍🏻
I prefer the sideways style auto strippers instead of the end strippers. My favorite is my KTI set but another good one is the Klein katapult. They seem more versatile and let you do mid wire splicing
I want to point out that i got a Harbor Freight ad when watching this video
Top adjuster sets blade depth for allowing thin to fat insulation without kicking the core. This is just another spin for 1 hand strippers... There are several brands selling the "Knipex" stripper of that size with minor changes to outside body and smaller units to work 20awg and smaller like Paladin mini-stripax. Ideal and others still make a good clone or cheap copy of Speedex stripper that have/had 10+ blade sets to strip different types of wire since 1940's also made special blade sets for big co's all still sold on flea markets etc. Even cheaper 1 hand types about $10us sold nearly everywhere that can work but often doesn't last long or plastic jaws can't hold many wire types.
Knipex Nexstrip seem like they would be great for industrial electricians. They do the same thing as this but have a square ferrel crimper in them as well. Do good for working on input output control wiring cabinets (RIO) and j-boxes.
I struggle to find auto wire strippers for Ethernet wires. 24-26 gauge depending on how shielded or fancy. Cat6 cat6e and more. I use the Klein plier style ones with the blue band on the handles to signify them being a different size group.
The Felo auto wire strippers is what I’ve used for 12 and 14 residential wire. They’re red and look like a dragon which is a bonus.
There are 2 different blade types with strippers like these. On the Waytek/Pressmaster one I got, there's one intended for PTFE insulation, and a regular one. You can of course buy the other type as a spare.
Maybe I just have a faulty one of these, but I thought these were awful. It now sits in the bottom of my electrical tool box. It constantly lost its tension and depth settings on me, and trying various settings will either not strip the insulation, or nicks the wire. The only ting that seemed to be somewhat consistent was stripping 14ga wire, which I barely use anymore.
I've gone back to my trusty Greenlee stainless steel strippers. I have the Klien auto-strippers as well. My problem with those is having to locate the right hole every time, and the same issue with always nicking the wires.
I have a snap on pair like that, I bought them 40 years ago.
I have them and the RS version, they struggle with 0.25mm. Tend too just snap it.
I regret every other wirestripper I bought before this one.

Yes, indeed it is😂😂😂
😜
I'm in the UK, gimme a link to your original purchase😂
I don’t know why but I’m seeing a lot of stuff coming from Amazon UK 🤷🏻♂️ I’m even more confused why Australia Post got involved.
@@FunkFPV one other thing, do these strip both insulation layers on "romex" one at a time, or are they just useful for single core?👏
One thing to keep in mind, they are not designed for THHN and don't strip it that good. Knipex makes a pair comparable to the Milwaukee's shown. They are extremely sharp and are a better option if you work with alot of THHN wire.
Interesting... is it because the insulation is thicker/tougher? Any experience with XHHW or SIS wire?
Their pliers version is great for THHN.
The generic answer would be yes, THHN insulation is tougher. I forget what type of wire it was, but I ran into trouble with wire that had a thin UV jacket. The strippers needed two tries to strip the wire. The first removed the UV jacket. The second removed the insulation. I still really like these, I just carry a different style for when these don't work well with a certain type of wire.
Neat.
Take plenty of Vitamin D, Funk man. It really works
Oughta mold a kydex holster for one of these to slap it on the toolbelt, lol. I managed to inherit one of those big ol' clapper-style ones, but it really only likes chewing fat solid-core stuff, which is kind of a pain when about all you're doing is outlet and appliance repair.
The catapults by milwaukae are nice.
Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks. I’m good now and my wife just got over the flu 🤦🏻♂️
I been wanting one for the longest. But the Knipex forged strippers are killers. Haven’t needed to really get onboard with them. One of these I may get some just for the hell of it though
Got a pair of Kline 11061 because will also strip the jacket at any length
Take care of yourself. I seen a number of people getting hit hard by whatever is going around. Some are having bronchial problems.
Thanks, I’m all better now but what ever this was made it’s rounds in my house twice 😷
The Tesmen strippers have a non-contact voltage detection. Kind of handy.
I cringed when you cut up the rc extension.😂
Haha I have a bag of them. Back in the day when drone flight controllers had header pins I’d buy them by the dozen. 😁
Boy, do I hate those Milwaukee’s. Doing lots of wiring with a flat blade like strippers have is also unnecessary pain. Get yourself a separate pair of round cutters so you can stop pinching wires and nicking the inner jacket every time you score something.
The Knipex look cool. I would have loved to set the sleeve length and just hand it to the other guy instead of constantly checking/correcting him.
From my understanding, Knipex doesn't make these. They are made by Jokari. Jokari makes a bunch of different wire stripping tools and Knipex rebrands a decent amount. They're not as well known as Knipex but there stuff is still made in Germany. Oddly enough, the Jokari version of these is more expensive on amazon.
Yeah, about twice as much. I actually found these looking for those.
If they were able to tweak the handles into more of a straight pliers form. Or a second model. Like inline as in like a pair of twin grips. It would be great for getting in tight areas.
They suck stripping high temp wire with multi layer insulation. I use these with Wagos, freaking amazing how fast you can get into circuits to do diagnostic. Splice into wire with 3 connector, lock my test probe into open slot.
Hey don't remove something that you can make $. I'm sure it's not all that much to begin with but you deserve it. Your shorts are great, you make me laugh my ⚾⚾ off.
😁👍🏻
Hard to beat Knipex
8:59 this can apply to women as well
YUUUUGE fan of the Milwaukee self-adjusted strippers. Easy peasy,
The 6-in1 is "OK". Good to keep in the tote bag.
NOT a fan of that Knipex (I returned them about 2 hours after the mailman delivered them)
I know this is a really small thing, but i really wish everything came in a box like the UK version. The only tool that i regularly buy that comes in a box is my hole saws (Lenox). Those plastic clamshells just piss me off to an irrational degree.
I’m with you on that.
The problem I got is they don’t work with the squishy rubbery kind of wire insulation. Unfortunately they’re collecting grease in the back of my toolbox.
Gotta wonder how it ended up with AusPost!
That’s a great question
thanks you on the grait video I am a big fan of your videos I personali a electricthe from Israel an I like to work with a jokari brand sore ebot my por English agen big fen thenk you
Thanks for the support 👍🏻 You all stay safe over there. I have a a lot of family on my wife’s side from there.
thank you❤
As much as i dislike the tool trucks... i have the plier style off matco and snap on. Theyre basically the same tool. I really like both but i spent entirely too much time installing stereo systems and doing engine swaps in the 90's with those janky stamped ones.
Got that exact model. Worked great for years. Use them all the time and impress the pleebs at work.
My experience with automatic wire strippers have also been hit or miss. Didn't matter what Brand they always failed when in the middle of a project. So i stopped buying then all together. Maybe one day something will cone out that last? Has to be a reason why you never see a professional electrician using them
I didn’t like the V cutting edges. I’ve been using the Greenlee auto strippers with 2 flat blades. 8awg to 32awg is what they’re rated for. I won’t strip anything bigger than 14awg with them because it feels like 12awg and bigger will break them
He has been mad dogging for so long his t section is forever angry and wrinkled
Not an operator error. He just didn't tighten it properly. Not his fault at all.
Honestly, I've never noticed any pop up because my ad blockers and the such get rid of everything, just do what your comfortable with.
only work up to 10 gage. broke em when i tried 6 gage. bummer. for heavy wire get the temco THO410 rotary stripping tool kit. $170. work fantastic up to 750 mcm.
Big knipex fan myself as a commercial electrician, but that tool fails over time quickly because our wire insulation is the US differs from Europe. I found the stripax auto stripper is far nicer. Give it a try, you’ll see it is superior.
Where is the garter on it?
Garter?
@FunkFPV Yeah it is an automatic stripper. Gotta have a place for dollars.
Okay how about Romex?
Never heard of her 😜
How do you avoid nicking the core(s) with Milwaukee pair
The cutter is only intended to cut up to 14AWG (2.5mm^2) wire
i just cant fathom why the 6(?) in one Milwaukie wire stripers don`t have a crimper.
