Bound, Pose, Pariah, Tongues Untied, Personal Best. The Matrix needs to be removed from this list. The wachoskis stole this idea/screenplay from a Black woman, Sophia Stewart. She sued them and won millions for the original movie and the subsequent series.
"Well, Nobody's perfect!" I like to headcanon that Osgood was possibly bisexual or pansexual, since he didn't seem to care if Jerry was a man or not. I love how nonchalantly that line was delivered. 😅
@@kamsismith It's from "Some Like It Hot", a movie from 1959 which features Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis as musicians who witness a murder, and have to dress in drag to join a female orchestra to evade capture from the mob.

"Portrait of a Lady" was the last film I saw in theatres in 2020, and it gave me a sense of hope during uncertain times. I wish that I could experience it for the first time all over again.
The Handmaiden is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. The cinematography, the music, the acting, all of the twists and turns, all wrapped up in a queer love story. It's perfect! ❤
I'm honestly surprised that Red, White & Royal Blue wasn't on this list. Not even as an honorable mention? The chemistry between lead couple Alex and Henry was phenomenal 💓
It can be presumed that one of my favorite LGBTQ+ Cartoon series, The Owl House(2020-2023), was influenced by most of the LGBTQ+ movies on this list. Nice video list MsMojo. I praise ya'll for doing this video. 🙏 🏳🌈❤🧡💛💚💙💜🏳🌈
Look it's impossible to number just 20 LGBTQ+ Movies: Disney's Strange World, Birdcage, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, Pride, The Kiss of a Spider Woman, Boys Don't Cry, My Own Private Idaho, The Hours, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Danish Girl, Fire Island, Disclosure, The Color Purple, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Breakfast on Pluto, Pink Flamingos, Victor/Victoria, gosh and so many, many others
I've always loved 1987's Maurice, which also has a happy and hopeful ending. It's a beautiful and faithful adaptation of E.M. Forster's novel, written in 1913-14 and only published posthumously in 1971. When you consider we were only about 5 years into the outbreak of AIDS when the film was released in 1987, it was astonishing to have this film at this time, and a shame more people aren't aware of it. Definitely worth a watch.
I absolutely adore "The Handmaiden", not just because of the cinematography, acting, et al, but also because it finally gave the story of "Fingersmith" the happy ending it always should have had.
There's this little movie called "Pride" that I really enjoyed. It's been a while since I watched it but iirc it's set in Ireland and it is about miners teaming up with the queer community to fight for their rights.
These are not necessarily the best for me but the most accessible and mainstream. Jeffrey, love valour companion, Trick, Prayers for Bobby, Latter days are gay movies that really stroke a chord with me but are far less known and popular.
*Thank you Ms Mojo for creating such an amazingly splendid list. I thoroughly enjoyed and greatly appreciate you for composing such a beautifully diverse list of LGBTQIA cinema.* 🙏🏾 🏳️🌈 🎥 ❤️
Missing from this list are three Canadian films: "I Heard the Mermaids Singing" (1987), "When Night is Falling"(1995) and "Better Than Chocolate" (1999)
*Denzel Washington was phenomenal in that movie. He played a closed minded lawyer representing a gay man dying of AIDS so realistically. I still find myself angry at him from time to time lol but I gotta remind myself that it’s just a movie and that he is not his movie character which evolved into being apart of the family to Tom Hanks character, loving him like a brother. It was so sad yet beautiful. And The Band Played On was sad but great docu-movie as well.*
greatest - debatable, worthy - probably. But so many to choose from makes it really difficult and subjective. Beautiful Thing, Latter Days, Shelter, God's Own Country, To Wong Foo, Cage Aux Folles, Priscilla, Killing of Sister George would be on my list too.
The Matrix shouldn't even be on this list considering the Wachoski's stole it from a Black woman, Sophia Stewart. She sued them and won millions from the original & sequels. I am surprised that a great many did not make the list--Noah's Arc, Personal Best, Bound, Pose, Pariah, Shakedown, Tongues Untied, Bessie, Naz & Malik to name a few. There should be a part two.
Happy for Love Simon to be on here although it should have Red, White and Royal Blue and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Then there's Watercolours which was the first LGBTQ+ movie I've watched on the first Christmas when I came out, making it a bittersweet experience. In any case, it's good to have more LGBTQ+ representation movies as a LGBTQ+ individual.
I saw Portrait of a Lady on Fire in my Intro to Film and Television class November last year, and it was both visually captivating and incredibly potent in the messages. I really liked it.
I know it was an HBO TV movie but The Normal Heart with Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomber (and an amazing supporting cast) should have been on this list. It’s a great list but missing this and Rent for me

I'm thinking that they'll HAVE to do another set, because there are SO MANY GREAT movies! How is it? I'm reading the book now!
By the way another masterpiece that deserved to be in this top is the beautiful underrated Contracorriente, a beautiful Latin American queer film.
