Very nice. I remember in Uganda , when I could not afford to have my shoes repaired , I went to a guy sitting under the tree , he put the new soles in my shoes & charged me 5 sh. Those shoes last me well over 6 years, & they were very comfortable as well!

I would beg to differ with you. The technology the western world has requires more skill to keep the equipment going. Besides give those sandals 2 weeks& they will be trashed. Soft rubber, no reinforcement, & then using nails to hold the top pieces? Those nails will pull through im less than two weeks & poke into their foot.
This is a very good pair of sandals. I have a pair that I purchased from a south vietnamese road side merchant during the Vietnam war. The soles are thicker and the straps are made from inner tubes.
In the Philippines, as youngsters we had simple sandals like these with 'x' strap.. we call them 'palagatos'. Used everyday, on playing, farm and mountain works.. super tough as they can be!
I was a kid in the late 60s and into the 70s. Every kid in my neighborhood had a pair of these....you where very cool if you had a pair made from an old snow tire....so you had the really aggressive tread 😁
This guy's really skilful and is well versed in his trade, and in making full use of a few very simple gadgets, he's saving himself thousands, in not having to buy experience machinery, which would make his own shoes and slippers very expensive to buy for the average person living on next to none living finances! What a guy? He's literally got Hands of Gold !
That's because ours are made in China out of foam! I used to buy a pair that would last about 4 or 5 years without compacting! Now, they last a couple of months and they are squished and hurt my feet!
@@Butterball3588 Hubby says all they make now are Radial Tires with the metal inside. BUT they make trailer tires and stuff without the metal. I'll check at one of those used tire places and see just how much rubber is left after the tread comes off. I'm also going to check at a truck stop and see if they have any blown inner tubes. Semi inner tubes would be great! Brand new they are expensive!

In my childhood, I was wearing this type of footwear. That time I was 8 year old. Price of footwear was 5 Indian Rupee. Our family economical condition was very poor. My mom and dad was not wearing footwear because they don't have money to buy it. When people walk, they looks at the path but when I walk I looks my feet and remind my parents life journey and take myself to forward target.
My dad bought a pair of these in Viet Nam back in the late 60's. He said they were super comfortable and he wore them whenever he wasnt in uniform. Customs took them from him when he was returning home and he never got them back. He thinks the customs guy just wanted them for himself.

When I was a kid one of my neighbors fought in Vietnam, he had a pair of Ho Chi Minh sandals he picked up in the battle field. They weren't made nearly as nice as the pair he just made. @ Ban bekas & Kerajinan, Nice work guys, I hope your ingenuity, and skills bring you good fortune.
Back in Thailand in the late 70's, there was a guy in my town that recycled old car tires to make sandals and he was using the tire tubes to make the straps. He also replaced worn-out soles of soccer cleats and they were more durable than the original cleats.
Very interesting. I remember these craftsmen making champles ( sleeper type footwear) with amazing skill. People used to demonstrate their skill in their family running business in India, back in 60's. We must promote such people and praise their work.

They did this during WWII here in the USA! There is a company up north that started a business recycling tires to make shoes!

in the 1950's my grandad george robinson of durable products in west orange NJ, made and sold thousands of sandals made from automobile tires,,,,
