They each used distinguishing ingredients, so of course each one knew which was theirs. One used coconut milk, one didn’t use vanilla wafers, and the other used nutmeg.
I was raised on the Store bought BPs and they're just as fire as from scratch. I actually prefer the ones that combine a bit of both. When I make my own I actually create layers of either Banana Meringue or Banana Whipped Cream and layer the Banana pieces between with the cookies on top, and repeat.

Making the pudding and whipped cream from scratch makes a huge difference flavor wise. You won’t want to use the boxed stuff ever again.

Although I don’t eat banana pudding, I’ve watched my mom and grandma make this dish a thousand times. I’m disappointed that no one put the meringue on top. My mom would scream if she burned that meringue on top 😂 Being from the south no one ever used instant pudding, it was always the canned milk and heavy stirring until you had that pudding consistency and Murray’s or Nabisco vanilla wafers. That’s the traditional southern way but everyone has heir own version.
I’ve always made my pudding from scratch. Next time I make it, I’m going to use the egg whites and make meringue. There’s nothing like making your own pudding. Instant pudding, NEVER again!

they should have random taste testers because as soon as they realize it's their dish, they fudge the numbers. they should try their own then have random people taste it and comment on their favorite. it would be dope if each taste tester would say what their preference is before they start so that the audience can know if the dish was bad or good and if it is because the taste tester has their own preferences not from the dish itself

Where's the meringue? Layer sliced bananas and vanilla wafers in a baking dish, pour warm "from scratch" vanilla pudding over them. Top with meringue and bake in the oven at 350 until the meringue is golden brown. That's Southern banana pudding.
The winner used Ovaltine biscuits. I like Ovaltine biscuits a little bit, but I have never had Banana Pudding before, but always wanted to try it since I love Nilla Waffers( Nabisco brand and most brands). So definitely would NOT want to try the winner's version first even if it's really good. I'd want it as close to the original version before I taste variations. It's like give me a basic cheese cake first before I try Oreo cheesecake.
