Andrea Del Sarto by Robert Browning in Tamil / Bharath Ravindran / Bharath Academy. This poem 'Andrea Del Sarto' was included in the volume entitled 'Men and Women'. 'Andrea Del Sarto' was published in 1855. It is a dramatic monologue. Browning was inspired to write this poem after seeing the photograph 'Andrea Del Sarto and his wife. It was hung in the Pitti palace at Florence. Browning's friend John Kenyon asked Browning to send a copy of the picture. As the photo was not available Browning wrote this poem and sent to John Kenyon. The account of Andrea Del Sarto was given in his book by George Vasari 'Lives of the most excellent Italian Painters, Sculptors and Architects'. This poem tells us of the degrading and disintegrating effect of love on the great painter Andrea Del Sarto's soul. The poem is a discussion of what constitutes the failure in art.
