My feeling is that unless one makes a big income and yes you mentioned ‘tech’.. then it’s plausible to move here…. But sadly my millennial kids cannot afford San Francisco or the Bay Area. One has been working for the same firm in Brisbane for 5 years, has a college degree and still lives with us because they cannot afford to buy a home and cannot afford to rent, and the other moved to a city on the other side of the continent and has started a new life there because she was able to buy a home on one salary…. And has a masters from a private university in Manhattan but chose to work in a field where she helps people in need…..
This breaks my heart to read, but I know it's true. I'm sorry. That must be really hard! I'll be honest, I'm worried about this for my own kids who are now 15 and 12. I'd love for them to stay close but it's unclear if they will be able to afford to start their lives here. The cost of living is very high, especially for those who are starting out.
Showed my last workplace before moving Back East - Hills Bros. Coffee! Lived in SF from 1978 - 1986. Moved from New England, and then back to New England. Two things that sum up why I still love that city (and why I now nostalgically browse real estate videos): 1 - political and cultural diversity and equity, far ahead of where I came from - still. My spirit felt free, after getting used to it. I miss that. 2 - panache -- just about everything San Franciscans do, they do with panache. Starting with all the bright colors everywhere. When I meet a San Franciscan here in N.E., their panache almost gives them away. I think the San Andreas has something to do with it? My most outstanding memory among many outstanding ones: partying with friends in the Richmond until the wee hours then, not wanting to wait all by myself to ride the Muni home, just walking from there to my studio apt. in the 24th and Mission area, hiking up above Cole Valley, across Upper Market and back down through Castro-Noe Valley to the Mission. I grew up in the City and have lived here continuously since 1977. Before real estate skyrocketed to unbelievable levels, San Francisco was a magnet for culture and the arts. The City was home to legendary musicians such as Journey, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Huey Lewis & the News, Metallica, Sylvester, Carlos Santana, Green Day, Steve Miller Band, and Sly & the Family Stone to name a few. Now, I can't even think of any major music act that came out of SF since 2000. The one thing that really hasn't changed over the years is our vibrant food scene. For 2 years in a row now, no Bay Area food institution was awarded a James Beard award and only one made it in World's 50 Best for 2024: Single Thread in Healdsburg.

I fell in love with the city the first time I visted in the 80s. For me, since I'm unable to drive due to my poor eyesight, a major factor is that it's one of the few cities where it's easy to get around without a car and the only one where it doesn't snow.

@livinginsanfranciscoca A lot less to do with online shopping and a lot more to do with the rampant crime, theft, and homelessness in the bay. Not to mention: Child Abductions aka Sex Trafficking, Prostitution, Murders, Rape, Violent Crimes, Gang Violence, Tent Cities, Shit, Piss and Vomit everywhere you walk. All the homeless setting up shop and selling thousands in stolen merch from places like TARGET and tons of other businesses there. Fentanyl Zombies!!!
I work in Biopharma, we are a Professional gay couple. We moved up from Southern California. We finally had the income to make it our home. Sf gets bad rap but sf is not as bad as many portray it to be. Maybe perhaps they don’t want ppl moving in because of the jewel SF really is. Sure there is problems but if you ever look at the history of every cities they all did.

"Still a shit city with surrounding beauty."
I work in Biopharma, we are a Professional gay couple. We moved up from Southern California. We finally had the income to make it our home. No matter how many sour grapes are put forth by those who cannot afford to stay. The 4 million Americans fortunate enough to be able to afford San Francisco and the Bay Area are truly blessed.
Actually the Grapes Are Pissed In 💩DoDoBrown is there as well don't forget about him DoDoBrown last time I checked people are running out of CA just look at all the UHauls EVERYWHERE. IF you wanna 30 year fixed bank product that is underwritten to FAIL or OVER Inflated Market Valuation Instability and Poverty that you are in the Right PLACE the wealthy have left CA they live in places that are much more insulated without OverPopulation exposure 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the best thing about CA period is the weather IF ONLY Texas had CA Weather. nobody wants to afford to stay people are building their wealth Elsewhere 🤷🪞
Welcome to the Bay Area! We are so glad you're here!
@@livinginsanfranciscoca Me too. It took me a lifetime 😆
The people here now kind of suck….
Why would anyone ever want to live in SF? Trust me, it's a horrible place to live.
I stay only because of my duty to my wife and her family, who need us close by.
STOP HYPIN UP lost dreams 4 a lost city. Realism has vanished. TONY HALL has spoken the truth !
Sf gets bad rap but sf is not as bad as many portray it to be. Maybe perhaps they don’t want ppl moving in because of the jewel SF really is. Sure there is problems but if you ever look at the history of every cities they all did.
Yup Tony Hall is SPOT on pay no mind 2 jdos5643 he or she has an agenda 2 keep selling the city 🤣🧿🤣 or works 4 the Thompson Twins Lies lies LIES LIES yeah!!!

I can't think of a place I would rather go. When I travel I really enjoy seeing drug using zombies, human waste, trash and needles on the streets and sidewalks, and mentally insane people wandering around screaming at the sky. Also, seeing vandalism everywhere is a huge plus. When I travel it's really a special plus if my car broken into and my stuff is stolen. This neighborhood has so much to offer!
Just curious, have you actually been to SF or are you recounting what you hear in the "news"?
San Francisco or Chicago. A choice between the hammer or the hard spot. It does not get any more disillusioned than that. Which one are you voting for? Kevin Newscum, the nephew of Nancy Pelosi, or Lori Lightfoot?
You probably miss the days of the great man who invented the famous words - never let a good crisis go to waste - and of course Michelle the not-so-belle.
Lolz NICE Accent. 7 years yahhh ok
Garbage city!
Ha ha ! Good try! The place is horrible.
This is so far off reality!!! The ONLY good thing about The SF Bay Area is the Weather and Water otherwise The SF Bay Area has LOST it's Diversity to over population and foreign Interests the only people doing well here are the foreigners who get paid in American Dollars compared to the rupee, Filipino peso, Mexican Peso, the Redback versus American Dollar and the Real Estate Market is fraudulent and a lie STOP LIEING IN AN ENDEAVOR TO SELL KUR SOVEREIGNTY!!! Please educate yourself on Reality

No way SF beats Chicago on food.
Picked San Francisco food over Chicago? Strong disagree there lol
Don't tell anyone else how amazing it is! ;) Just kidding, we welcome anyone and everyone with open arms.
I moved to oakland last year and work in san fran and hate the bay area. Too pricey.
You moved to one of the most deady cities in the Bay Area? The entire Bay Area is pretty much a Death Trap by design especially Oakland. be very careful friend. O_O
