I loved the Arthur Brown reference. I once went to a concert that featured The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and a young, relatively unknown guitarist named Jimi Hendrix
You would love what I’m doing to a 2 door 62 Valiant then… 340/4-speed, with 10” mopar rallies in the back, 8-3/4 with a 4 link, suicide doors and chopping the top… 😎 eventually. Hopefully after the Charger build…🤔
I think the stone soup concept is brilliant - everybody just puts in a little, and in the end you have a halfway decent (?) car. No one person has to slave away on this piece and get mad at it for long - share the wealth!
This car is definitely worth saving. It's a piece of history, a totally weirdly styled Mopar that was built when JFK was president. It definitely needs a lot of work, but like you said there are far worse. At least the basic structure is pretty good. The broken torsion bar reminds me of a 66 Belvedere I bought once that had a broken bar. I replaced it and then resold the car, and then I used the remains of the bar as a pry bar. I just reshaped the broken end into a sharp wedge, and I still have it today. My Mopar bar is with me for life!
We have one at Rocket that was welded to a big sledge hammer head. True brilliance. Sometimes we use that hammer to remove torsion bars, and everything makes sense in the world.
I just can’t get myself to say they were a good looking car, but they were a unique looking car and you just don’t see them anymore. A head turn is a head turn 👍
Man I love this video!!! Who in there right mind could not like this car! If it was painted red it would look like Mrs. Carmichaels from the Beverlyhillbillies. The ignition switch is ghetto fabulous! Before you sign off on it, cut a hole in the hood so they can gas can without opening the hood!
Been there on the gloves. My hands used to dry out, crack, and split open at the finger tips. Everyone knows the orange ones are the best though. And remember, hot wings aren’t just spicy in your mouth, they’re spicy in your dry, cracked finger tips. Not as good as yours but I gave it a shot.
I'm impressed you got it running as well as you did! Looking forward to wrenching on this thing! Also, I've been to Cut Rate Auto Parts. I was born in the town in which you reside, and I still have family there!
That lancer is pretty cool! It’s awesome to see it kinda functional again. I’ve only seen one or two (maybe the same year valiant too) here in northeast Pennsylvania.
Back when the '71 Challenger was my daily driver i had a torsion bar snap while I was driving. It sounded like a rifle shot going off. Car still drove but the tire started scraping the wheel well when turning even a little. There was no internet or youtube (or DDG!). I had the FSM but no special tools. It took me hours to replace that bar even using my uncle's shop's lift (and in fact he came over to help with his persuader (5 lb fist maul) and mega-vise-grip to get the stubs out. The new one went in easier.... I kept the pieces for years until they were stolen from our garden shed... I like the idea of a sledge hammer handle. I also like the idea of forging them into a dagger and a sword if I still had them ;) Really glad you're doing this and that the car is getting a new lease on life.
Stone Soup is a GREAT idea. Now whether someone is going to stop somewhere down the line once it's working much better and just feign "I don't know what happened I sent it to the next place two weeks ago" or not is yet to be seen. LOL.

Awesome! I did get a radiator in it that mostly works, but we’ll see. A column would be huge. I’m happy to help out. Plenty of thanks are owed to you as well! You made all of this possible - and I know it is appreciated.
New to this channel. Was enjoying this 'till 14:30 when I thought I saw a Lotus Cortina and went off in search of that video. I know, Dead DODGE Garage, ok but I'm British and never heard of a Dodge Dart. Similar vibes from the front. O.K. back to the Lancer. Good stuff.
Funny enough, I *did* kind of show a *kind of* Lotus Cortina in a video once. Haha. But it was in my Lemons video, which no one watched. There is definitely a resemblance between that and the ‘64 Dart. Good stuff.
This car represents a unique era in world history. The change from horse power to horsepower. We will never see it again so we better save what we can.
I like early A bodies so I am not impartial ;) I like this video series and it's fun with the idea to pass it around to different channels, the moss give it character, to be honest I think the reason I like them is that they are so simple, there are 5 cables or so going to the back, the electrical schematics are 3 pages (1 extra page for station wagon), you need 3 wrenches and a screwdriver to take it apart, ok the older ones sometimes need a ham... sledge hammer for calibration, be careful with the sun Jamie, you are not used to it...
Yes! Exactly. The simplicity is the real beauty of these cars. And it’s funny you should say that, because I got a pretty good sunburn on my neck the first day it was truly nice here this year. Classic.
Jaime, you've given the rest of us a hell of a start! Not only will the Lancer unload and load itself, we have a pretty good idea of what else is needed. Thank you!
