Poor sweet boy. Even in horrendous pain, he was a gentle giant. You did the best you could for him, and he knew that you were helping him, even if you couldn’t save him. This sort of cruelty is appalling. Thank you for giving him those last moments with pain killers, kind words, gentle hands and good food. He doesn’t look like he had much of any of it before he reached you.
This is just more than cruel and unusual punishment! Poor Captain, that he had to endure this injury untreated for so long. Thank you for giving him the last act of kindness, as unfortunate as that outcome is. I appreciate all that you all do!
As soon as I saw this beautiful boy I knew his outcome I can't put into words how angry I feel at those who stood by and did nothing. So glad he came to you when he needed you the most he felt your love at the end of his journey you are all hero's in my eyes
Ah...but the humans at Horse Plus did not fail him; on the contrary, they gave him food, affection, attention, and then relieved him of incurable discomfort.
I despise any human that let another living creature suffer in this manner and frankly I would be banned from social media if i verbalised my true thoughts . Thank goodness for Dr Lydia and Dr Gina's compassion and professionalism, it must be so so hard for them . RIP Captain x
So heartbreaking what this poor sweet boy has been living with. I don’t understand how any human could watch an animal in such pain and do nothing. Horrible humans!
Please Lord, gather up Captain in Your Hands and give him the rest he deserves. Thank you for allowing him to know the kindness and love of people, and not just the cruelty, abuse and neglect that was his life before You intervened.
Thank you for giving Captain the dignity and respect of the final act of kindness for this beautiful soul. ❤ It’s absolutely heartbreaking that some humans have grown so heartless in their care of God’s creatures.
Thank you for giving captain compassion and kindness, people who neglect there horses deserve to be prosecuted and fined for animal cruelty and banned from owning any other animals ever again for life.
Dear Captain: What a big beautiful gentle angel you were. I don't know if your broken bones were from violence or accidents. But l am so so sorry with all my 💔heart that not one human made a phonecall to be your voice. You were starved and left to live in horrific pain. I would give anything to avenge you, some scumbag humans need to pay. So tenderly and lovingly you were given your last oats before you left us on your Journey. May you now be running forever free and healthy under The Rainbow. Yes, running- there are no broken bones in Heaven, where only the Innocent like you go. Just 12 and you were already amazing, a gorgeous gentle big ginger. I am sorry Captain, my species failed you badly. I am thankful that in the end you were with *real* horse people. But l am sorry precious one. Rest In Peace sweet Captain. 🌹😔🌹🕊. ♥️🐎♥️ 🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
😭 Thank you for an absolutely beautiful send-off for him. That made me cry. Although he doesn't suffer anymore and he can run through the Heavens touching the clouds with his hooves free of pain and suffering. 💔🌹💕🐎🌈
@cynthiamcgee4829 And thank♥️you as well for *your* kind words. I am sick every day reading about horses, dogs, cats and all Animals being abused. I will never understand why my species feels they have the right to treat any Animal in that way. I cry every story l read. It is the scourge of this planet. Against the helpless and most innocent of all. Take care. 🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
What a good boy you were Captain. You deserved so much better, but the caring HPHS staff gave you what you needed most - love, expertise, and a gentle delivery from pain to the pastures of Heaven.
What a beautiful message. I'm in the UK, lying in bed, with tears falling down my face. What a beautiful soul Captain was. Thank you for showing him love, compassion and grace. He'll be happy, healthy and whole, running over the Rainbow Bridge, frolicking with friends new and old. Run in Paradise Captain, you beautiful boy 🤗🙏🏼🌈💚
Thank you for quickly giving Captain a pain shot. Dr Lydia was correct he did not want to be touched due to pain. He was already on the defense with the horses as soon as he got off trailer.
I agree. He was so exhausted, just from the effort of standing up, he couldn't deal with anything else. So heartbreaking, but so glad he was given rest.
I'm thankful that HPHS stepped up and did the compassionate thing for this poor suffering soul. Like so many situations in today's society, lawless, irresponsible or cruel behavior will continue until the people who perpetrate it are brought to justice and severely punished. There is no motivation for a change of bad behavior until a price is payed for all to see.
I watched him come in with Jason's "Almost Live"...the only way I could rewatch this is knowing that he is already out of his pain. Blessings and Love to everyone there.
Learning provides answers medically, but physically this poor gelding suffered far too long at the hands of many many who passed him along and Don't deserve the love of a horse. What a sweet boy🙏🏻RIP big man.🌹

He was in that much pain and still gentle with people. Non-medical euthanasia obviously isn't ideal, but surely there was somebody along the way who could have done so with a clear conscious. You did right by him, but he had to wait far too long for that.

The sad and painful look in this beautiful Belgian's eyes just rips my soul! Why and how do people allow such suffering? I could easily sentence the person(s) responsible for this to ten years hard labor with nothing but bug-infested water to drink, mouldy bread to eat and a dirty old burlap sack to sleep on. I'm sorry I sound totally callous but there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR THIS!! This was not a "human" that committed this horse to such suffering; it was a demon from hell!
Thank you for donating your time to Horse Vet Corner! I've tapped the page many times for advice and learning, and your efforts to help horse owners with questions is greatly appreciated. Also appreciated is the way you all try to educate both horsey and non-horsey folk about veterinary conditions, and for shedding light on the logistics of equine prosthetics. Thank you!
Captain, we failed you, and I am so sorry for all you had to endure. Knowing that you are finally no longer suffering is a great relief on all of our hearts. You deserved so much more. You were such a sweet horse in life, and it's a gift to know that you are in a far happier place on the other side of the rainbow bridge. Bless your big heart, sweet Captain.

I would be trying to find the owners somehow and punish them if I lived closer! My anger is so much that I am crying as I write this! That poor poor horse!
Leaving animals to suffer in this condition is just deplorable. Owners should be charged and auction houses shouldn't be allowed to accept animals in these conditions.
This poor horse. Thank goodness he came to Horse Plus, and left with love and dignity
