T.J. Has always been my favorite hidden gem. All of these guys actually. Not many people have heard about Brett either. At least in my age group. And when I attended MI in 2012. T.J. was by far the most humble, nice, and unique personalities I’ve ever met. I’m blessed to have spent any time, short as it was, with him in any regard, let alone learning from him. Since then he’s always been my go to for something I can just listen to. And enjoy. And same with Brett.

I got a ‘91 Bret Cd Big Sky It’s special, one of those records that’s more than just great musicianship. It’s gotta vibe to it making it timeless Great record 👍🏻
I just have done with a comment on another video in which I wrote .. Helmerich and Garsed are the biggest forgotten when we talk about the legacy of the Greatest guitarists Over the decades .
Damn, that was just great! I'd come across the name "Brett Garsed" a while back but never bothered to dig into his music, but then the other day I came across a thumbnail to a video of song he and TJ Helmerich did and gave that and some others a listen. I'm sure glad I did that. TJ's solo at 25:30 was probably my favorite in this video, and it really makes me want to learn 8-finger tapping. Keyboard solos were also great and loved the drum solo at the end, and I'm not even a drummer. Brett G. was also great with his phrasing and all, of course. Oh, and the guy with the strange hat...loved his tone and his solo was quite well-done, if a little unimaginative, at least in comparison to the other axe men here. Bravo to all involved.
Neon Totem They really recorded 3 albums together: "Quid Pro Quo", "Exempt", and "Under the Lash of Gravity". First two are out of print and were released by the Legato Label. The third was self-produced. The most recent Garsed/Helmerich CDs are under the name of Uncle Moe's Space Ranch. First homonimous and second one titled Moe's Town, both released by Tone Center. I also highly recommend you Brett Garsed solo album titled "Dark Matter" with Ric Fierabracci and Virgil Donati among others.
+Manuel Cebada exempt is on spotify, but unfortunately, quid pro quo is not (and I seem to recall that was the better album to my ears, but I can't find it anymore! :( )
Unfortunately just before the show the band and equipment were shrunk to one tenth normal size in a technological accident, hence why they are so quiet. Thanks for posting though, the 'little fellas' are on fire here, I could have listened all day!
Can someone please explain the insanity on one of their records the oddball piece "Mr. Banancreas"? I keep thinking it must be about some music instructor based upon the introduction.
Hey! Is this from a VHS video cassette. I am asking because the whole performance is a bit out of tune? It can actually only be explained if that’s the case :-) the pitch has been altetred slightly :-) I’m a Big fan of T.J. Helmerich and Brett Garsed too😊
44:30 HAHAH he tries to hit that note 3 times and nothing. that's funny right there. Live music... it's always something. cord gets stepped on, fuse blows, string breaks... fan attacks, string gets caught under a bad fret... TJ has a smooth timing and Brett's sound is kind of similar but he's doing hybrid picking. Some nice sections in this show.
+holierthan Not sure what the hell he actually did. A string moving slightly in a saddle would not dampen it completely or even mostly. So, I'm really not sure what the problem might have been. For me, it's the E string always hooking up under a fret end. godz... I've got to buy some super glue soon and fix all of those. That's just unprofessional.
xmoniker@hotmail.com Not sure. I mean the guy is TAPPING everything so the strings don't move much and how would a string go UNDER a pickup when it is being tapped only? IOW, it can't bend. It can't go lower than the last fret of the guitar when you are only tapping on the fretboard. So, I have no idea what happened and it's a total mystery as I cannot fathom where a string would have caught given he's tapping and bending at the tapped fret. ?
TruthSurge True dat. That used to happen to me when I was picking for sure. Like you said, maybe it actually got trapped under a bad fret? Or he just missed lol!?
Does virgil know these guys are soloing? He didnt even give Holdsworth the space to solo when he had the golden ticket to be in his band. Chill dude we know youre the einstein of drums.

The song is called "Mirage" and its from the Garsed/Helmerich album called "Quid Pro Quo".
All are currently amazed with Guthrie nowadays but here's Tj and Brett cloaked by the Legendary Shadows of guitar supremacy.
My Goodness! Thank you for loading this!!
What a great line up!!

+TruthSurge Can you tell what he did in an attempt to solve it? It looked to me as if the string had gone out of the saddle's string slot...
+holierthan Not sure what the hell he actually did. A string moving slightly in a saddle would not dampen it completely or even mostly. So, I'm really not sure what the problem might have been. Are you sure this is 1998? I was attending M.I. then and the T.J. mullet wasn't there!....

Holy mackerel ... I think I just shite myself.. Is it me or is Brett Garsed too good.. I mean the human ear can only hear so many notes.... right? ;-)
Who's on bass?
Can anyone provide us with the set list and band line-up?
Drummer's definitely Virgil Donati, and there's a good chance that's Ric Fierabracci on bass. No idea about the keyboardist though...
Or, for further details, see Brett Garsed & T.J. Helmerich M.I.T. 1998
Kevin King on keys

+MisledDan The song is called Verba Buena Bells
Why is there such a low volume on this video?
whats the name of the first song?
Yerba Buena Bells

What kind of guitar is Brett playing?
Is that the great Virgil Donati on drums?
no; it actually is a smaller kawaier hairy version of the original.
Don't forge that badass bass player. Geez!
Well...It's Virgil Donati.What did you expect?:D
Steve Vay and Allan Holdsworth seems to be the next examples.
The next examples of what?
Most people model their style after existing players, I have no problem with that :)
Yes What...
Does virgil know these guys are soloing? He didnt even give Holdsworth the space to solo when he had the golden ticket to be in his band. Chill dude we know youre the einstein of drums.
Seemed planned if you were talking about the 2nd song
