I get flashed enough with my stock Model 3 headlights. With this stuff on I'd occasionally take some incoming live fire from 2A aficionado drivers, too? :p
It's a valid safety issue. Why would you want to reduce your visibility at night? Why would you want the people behind you to not see you as well? Yes looks great. But not worth the loss of function of the fronts
Actually this looks like you might blind people with your front headlights, because it's now very diffused. I like the look, but it might look a bit too dark in person.
The primary reason people get triggered is that it's unsafe. Obstructing light coming from both headlights and taillights isn't safe. Insurance companies and safety institutions have done significant research into this and have unequivocally proven it's unsafe to restrict light coming from both the headlights and taillights.
Tinting lights is usually illegal simply because it reduces what the cars light output was approved for. If you have an accident, I wouldn't be surprised for the insurance company to use that against you.
Tinting isn't illegal. Practicallу, there's minimal reduction in light output. Cars with tinted lights still pass all road tests . If it were illegal, they'd fail the state test.
Dont do anything, just ppf them so they're protected too. Useful on the track. But I'd rather have more powerful lights than tinted ones, that's for sure.
Nothing. It is a safety issue. We all do not want anything to happen to you or anyone else in your car. The optics of a headlight are painstakingly engineered. Trust that they know what they are doing.
I've used Xpel headlight protectors for many years and swear by them. It's like PPF but much thicker and really protects from large rocks and sand. The vehicles I drove in Colorado before I started using the protectors would be sandblasted and pitted in a few years but with the protectors stayed looking new as long as I had the car (11 years in one case). You could compare around the edges where there was no protection (not noticable unless you knew and were looking for it) and could see the night and day difference the Xpel protectors made. It's one of the first things I did to my Model S. As for the tinting, I'm not a fan. I actually don't mind the look, but the reduced light output really bothers me. If I were doing that, I would use the hard plastic ones you can easily pop off at night so it doesn't affect output when you need it. Removing and replacing them would probably get old in a hurry though.
I have mine covered in clear PPF to protect them from rocktrips, matte might diffuse the light but not sure how much. Likely it will reduce brightness too (not as much as tint), im also not sure how much. Not sure if I like the look or not, but I would go for function over looks.
Some states have a law for the red reflective area of the taillights being a requirement. With smoked lights it can reduce this enough to give law enforcement a valid reason to ticket the owner.
Not sure I would do smoke black for the front but black tail lights be epic n maybe blue chameleon for the front well that's what I got planned for my car n sorry this comment is like 5yrs late ha
I kinda like the darkened tint on your white car.... but it's half a shade too dark for me. I also didn't like the light refraction it did on the headlights. Taillights not enough of a change to care, stock is perfect. Personally if you could get like half as dark then it might be cool but overall I don't care for it. Winter my headlights were covered in a salt haze and it annoyed me looking at them.
I'd say just try the matte PPF on there in areas removing the glass but leaving the lenses uncovered. As others already said, the diffusing of the headlights are going to be troublesome for other drivers.
The thing about tinting lights is that it is illegal (though not enforced) and you are decreasing safety FOR OTHERS. So if you are in an accident and an injured party can convince the court that you were neglegent...
I didn't think I'd like it but surprisingly I do ! I have a Performance Model 3 too so I'm watching everything you guys are doing to yours with GREAT interest ! 😍
Matte tint may always cause glare because it diffuses the light. That’s why it looks matte. It scatters light just like dirty headlights with winter salty road film cause glare (which other drivers will flash you for). I wonder how the headlights would look with a much lighter, but not clear, gloss tint.
Great video.. i went smoke lights. I did notice it dimmed the light a bit but I drive with fog light on so it made up the difference. I think the smoke looks looks great 👍
I like the tail light tint. I usually get black cars and I usually tint the tail lights to make them blend in better. The look of the front is ok but I personally like having as much light as possible up front.
I still want to know if that front lip upgrade increased your range. I'm thinking of getting their whole aero efficiency kit (including lowering springs) which they claim will increase freeway range by about 43 miles. That'd make a LR RWD Model 3 have almost 400 miles of range!
I would propose actually cutting the tint halfway up the headlight, tinting only the lower half and leaving the "lighter" area on the top exposed. I think that would look better. It would just accentuate the the light and dark contrast of the headlight. So maybe cutting a long the upper ridge of the headlight, you'd have to have a steady and light hand with your blade though. I'd be curious to see how that looks. I also think your tint would look better on a dark car.
Sorry to say I don't care for it. Maybe on a darker car like black or MSM since the dark theme would carry over. It's probably an individual taste thing and it may make it even more unique than it already is with the giant T on the side, Abstract Ocean decals, etc.. It's already pretty unique to you already.
THANK YOU for doing this for people that are on the fence. Now, take it off. LOL. Seriously, the idea is a good one, but it just isn't looking right. You know what I mean?
It actually looks like its making the light spray all over which is impacting the cutoff.... I did Xpel PPF gloss on my headlights and I'm very happy with it. Didn't impact the visibility whatsoever
I wouldn't suggest doing that for the fact that especially, if you have a Tesla performance car or regardless any Tesla they're super fast cars, you want to be able to see what's ahead of you approaching you, because you're faster than the average joe on the street, just say to avoid getting into an accident. 🤕😫
I don’t like the front lights done with the white paint ! Doesn’t contrast nicely. Back is cool. I have a black Model 3PD, and just received similar kit for mine to try out...
Majority of Tesla owners arent car guys. Tint the headlights on your vette, camaro, or mustang, youre good and people will love it... debadge your black tesla and all the vegans come from behind trees with torches.. lol tinted my headlights on my black model 3 with tint from a different company and they actually look great!
I saw these on a couple model 3's in person and I thought they were broken or cheap replacements or something lol. Didn't realize it's something people add on purpose
I wanted to try this but didn't, see how the DynoPrism Stek looks on them! It doesn't change the look a ton in general but may make it look pretty sweet in the sun/street lights
dont tint. A few reasons I think: 1. The tint looks to gray... 2. from that 500 feet test the tinted headlight was so much more diffused will blind other people. But tbh i think it looks better
The unlit tint looks real nice with the colour of the white. Makes the lights section stand out. But, of course, you won't see this as much cause the lights are almost always on. I had a question about the indicator lights and wanted to ask you guys this. Do you guys know if it's possible to have a dual-colour indicator light? I would imagine that it's possible to program it so that when the light is solid, it acts as part of the brake lights, and when it flashes, it flashes amber/yellow (left turn, right turn, or hazard lights). I'm patiently waiting to purchase a Model 3 and would love to have that as perhaps an after-market upgrade. I'm originally from the UK and am used to seeing yellow/amber rear indicators. Cheers guys, love your channel! -Michael
I was thinking about doing something similar to my white model 3. I personally don't like the level of darkness. I'm thinking about a lighter tent to more closely match what you see in a newer model S. I like what you're doing. Keep tail lights as they are. I don't think it adds anything to the car.
The original was a far more sophisticated look. Not sure why you would want to reduce the effectiveness of a safety feature in the first place. I agree with David. Clear protection, yeah sure, why not but definitely not the tinted version. Not sure what your insurance company would think about it.
I am going with No tint. Well i am very neutral about the rear lights. I like both. But in the headlights the tint makes it lool like it is so much bigger than the untinted. I guess it effects "extra" because the car is white and inside the headlight it has white (wich turns into black with the tint) and then it is also how much light it kills (according to the phone light meter thing hehe) my 2 cents
I think the tint looks cool, but I don't know if I would want to decrease headlight performance for it. For a show car it may be worth it. Do they make a matte black tint?
Personally, I kinda like the looks of the tinted lights. However from my understand - where I live even the slightest tinting is illegal. 🙄 If you can, check to see if there is something to correct the diffusing issue then I think it would be better. In the end, it is your car to customize/work on - so ultimately the main things that matter are: #1 it is legal & #2 you like the results.
Ouch, the tinted headlight clearly has increased diffuse glare.
Get ready to get flashed by oncoming traffic on a regular basis.
I get flashed enough with my stock Model 3 headlights. With this stuff on I'd occasionally take some incoming live fire from 2A aficionado drivers, too? :p
Function (Safety) before fashion
Don't tint headlights, it will mess up with oncoming traffic. Light will be difracted to everywhere, instead of focusing on road
MY TECH WORLD AND KSRTC which is exactly why the passenger side headlight had that major glare. Now I am wondering if the clear wrap will do the same.
I was going to say your science is speculative... but 8:53 is pretty damming.
Clear gloss wrap probably not much. Matte wrap like he wants, just as bad as this tinted vinyl
Those Abstract Oceans stickers look truly awful
Yes, but he has to get paid with his walking (driving) billboard.
@@longmuskox4194 yeah I completely understand that, but it just looks so bad
It's a valid safety issue. Why would you want to reduce your visibility at night? Why would you want the people behind you to not see you as well?
Yes looks great. But not worth the loss of function of the fronts
@Tesla Tuma I love giving my insurance company reasons to deny the claim in the event of something bad happening
Lol, sometimes I drive without my seatbelt to.

Looks better without the tint IMO.
The tinted headlights look good. I did it on mine and love it.
Can you do a update on your solar panels?
Against local authorities here...
same here
I don't think you should tint at all. Too many safety issues that you might not realise from visual inspection.
It looks good and the light coming out looks fine. Tint them all, it looks killer.
Tinting lights is usually illegal simply because it reduces what the cars light output was approved for. If you have an accident, I wouldn't be surprised for the insurance company to use that against you.
harry camper It should be illegal everywhere.
Tinting isn't illegal.

I don’t think you should keep it on😬
I would not tint the lights.
Wow this looks pretty cool but I'd be worried about reduced visibility as others have said...
nope..
This could be very expencive in Germany! In Germany, we lost the car licence!
Nothing. It is a safety issue. We all do not want anything to happen to you or anyone else in your car. The optics of a headlight are painstakingly engineered. Trust that they know what they are doing.
no tint
Leave it the way the factory made it not a fan of the dark ⚡️

I want my headlights as bright as possible. Cutting the light output to half would be completely unacceptable.
lessdeth69 Cutting light output by even 5% would be unacceptable (and stupid!)
@@FutureSystem738 like you can even discern the difference.

Safety > Beauty
I vote no on tinting the headlights. The Factory lights look better, and you won't be blinding other drivers with extra diffused glare.
Just do clear matte. Probably best balance.
no...

Add some graphic spaceX fins on either side and you got yourself a Tesla Block 5 rocket in a Tuxedo!

I think the tint looks awesome.
Smoked Tesla looks so good and adds protection to the film
Take it off the headlights but the backlights look crazy
I appreciate you trying out different things so we can all see how they look in person. Personally I like the stock lights more though.
My suggestion is call the DMV or the police before you spend more money on the tint.
I didn't think I'd like it but surprisingly I do ! I have a Performance Model 3 too so I'm watching everything you guys are doing to yours with GREAT interest ! 😍
Use glossy tint on the rear lights but the front keeps it like they are. They are producing to much glare.
tbh it looks bad, maybe on dark car it would look good but white car with brown lights just looks hilarious
Matte tint may always cause glare because it diffuses the light. That’s why it looks matte. although it looks good... I think I enjoy seeing at night than less front lights. Theres a reason for headlamps!
Looks pretty badass imo, doesn't look like it effects headlight brightness too much, but tough to tell on camera
Meh i dont like the tint on headlights. Feels like a mod that is more suited for kids in high school working on their old honda civics
in my last car I baked my headlights, opened them and then painted all the chrome that wasnt functional matte black.
function > form in my book. no tint is the way to go especially when it comes to lights for safety
Original is better, maybe with the transparent film protector
Great video.. i went smoke lights. I did notice it dimmed the light a bit but I drive with fog light on so it made up the difference. I think the smoke looks looks great 👍
differently put thhe clear protection on it
Thanks for the video it has made my decision a lot easier 👏👍

Looks better black matey! Thanks for all the videos.
I don’t like the look, and I don’t see any pros for this mode. I would recommend you to remove them, but great video btw!
I like the back one but I don’t like the front one
The original lights look 50x better. As everyone has said before, Teslas are sophisticated cars. Smoking it is just ridiculous.
It actually looks like its making the light spray all over which is impacting the cutoff.... I did Xpel PPF gloss on my headlights and I'm very happy with it. Didn't impact the visibility whatsoever

Too dark
Just smoke the dayrunning lights, I have done to mine it looks more agressive and beautiful
I'll have to try that! So many options.
what percent tint is that?
The tinted headlight hurt my eyes. Might have same effect on drivers.
Just gold carbon wrap the hood and macara wrap the headlights

Good job, video was still informative
Does it affect your visibility at night?
You can see at 8:52 what tinted headlights do at night. Other drivers would see a similar effect, dangerous stuff.
I like it a lot. I am tinting my tomorrow
No Tint on headlights looks tacky But you should paint your front spoiler to match the car will look cleaner
I saw these on a couple model 3's in person and I thought they were broken or cheap replacements or something lol. Didn't realize it's something people add on purpose

how your tail lights give more lux than headlights ??? 🤔

Too much
Clear tint the front, and matt the back... only say that because I have a feeling you will do something regardless.
I know this video is old but where did you get that supercharger replica from? That’s dope!
I like the design of the headlights

I like it looks good
I hate tented headlight film. This is an excellent test. Thank you.
Just do the back and probably leave the front alone. Or do half on the front top.
Personally, I am not feeling the tint. I like your idea to use matte PPF !
