I have been on the fence about getting the limiter but after your review I am jumping off the fence and going to buy one. Just another tool in the pedal arsenal. Great review and great pickin. Thank you.
@@Mark-vq7nh thanks for the kind words, it’s a very subtle pedal but it’s cool if you don’t love all the squish of compression but still want to knock back some peaks.
Your 80’s and 90’s references scattered throughout were awesome for this 40 year old metal head 😂 Thanks for breaking this down for us, I look forward to seeing you getting more subscribers. This is the first video by you I’ve seen and I happily subscribed. And you SHRED on that guitar! I’ve never even tried playing with my fingers on something that wasn’t a bass haha. And as a bass player, if I’m not using OD or distortion, I NEED that compression! I never really knew what a limiter/enhancer was though. But again, I’m a simple metal guy. Cheers!
I owned one a while ago but had always preferred my CS2, which I consider to be my all time favorite pedal. I play clean 99% of the time, so I use the CS2 as my "overdrive" in a sense. But I really want to try another LM2 now that I know a bit more about limiting vs compression and see if I could get big use out of it. I always just thought it was more for bass than standard guitar.
@@LeviBulger yeah they're both great. I think Clifton is correct when he said they're just slightly different flavors. The CS-2 has more of a squish/sag feel while the LM-2 is just a limiter. Both pedals are very useful for different applications.
I have a Mandela effect story with that Boss pedal. Back in the 1980s my brother bought a pedal for his bass. I would have sworn it was a Boss pedal. It looked just like the CS-2 except it was labeled as a Compressor/Limiter. The knob on the right was a Limiter until half way and then it became a Compressor (or maybe the other way around). I know that doesn't make sense but I clearly remember it being like that. Btw, great playing.
@@cliftonwright7081 No. That's the thing. It was exactly like the CS-2. Same blue with a level and attack knob but it said Compressor/Limiter, or maybe the other way around. I must be remembering wrong but it's such a vivid memory. I've tried to find one just like it on the Internet and I can't. It doesn't exist but in my memory it does. 🥴
@@danvankouwenberg7234 haha I feel that, my MIJ Boss collection is definitely more about the rainbow, but I do actually really like using these two for authentic 90s country tones.
I have always liked the MXR Dyna Comp and the DOD 280 compressor pedals. They are great for driving a tube screamer or mid overdrive pedal like the MXR Distortion +.
Diggin em both! Ever tried the Ibanez CP-10? I scored one for pennies about 15 years ago, threw it in the closet and forgot about it til recently. Sounds cool!
It does sound great, I’m considering swapping a part out to get more output happening but mine is mint in the box so I spiritually can’t go through with it
I use compression for my clean sounds because it allows me to pick more lightly, otherwise if struck too hard, notes can choke out. Compression with overdriven sounds can help smooth things out, but can ruin the pick definition. Plus, too much compression live with overdrive tends to cause feedback (not the good kind).
@@cliftonwright7081 Thanks, I've been trying to solve the issue of getting saturation and compression out of high headroom clean amps at bedroom volumes. Everything sounds harsh. Limiter sounds promising.
@@JM356 that is a bit of a pickle. Yeah, for that I usually use an overdrive set light and roll the volume on the guitar back to clean it up but keep some stringy character
What do you use to power boss pedals? I have a voodoo lab pedal power 3 and call me eric johnson but the batteries sound better to my ears when I use my sd-1.

Thanks for checking it out! I had no idea there was a super thanks button. I’ll see if I can figure it out. I like the LM2 but I’d recommend starting out with the volume dimed so that you don’t struggle as much as did with finding a cool setting that doesn’t duck down below unity gain

at 4:16 my jaw dropped. Unbelievable playing!
Clifton shows up to the session in Nashville, "Ugh where's your tele?......what kind of strat is that?", "Don't worry I got this..."
I love it :).
Dude your an awesome guitar player. Some sick playing there! Great pedal!
Thanks Nick! Have a great holiday season!
1/ a dbx chip is a vca
2/ a limiter is a compressor, you can level up the volume with level control.
Great demo, and OUTSTANDING playing!! Awesome job 👍🏼
Thanks Steve! Hope to get the channel back up and running soon

I do want an LM-2 or a Guyatone PS-035, but is it to color my tone, or to color my pedal collection?

What's the foam box you're putting the amp in? That's a great idea honestly.
It’s a custom made roadcase with some muting, mic mounts and an external jack panel
How well does it deaden the sound of a loud amp? @@cliftonwright7081
That was great! And you reminded me to order the Beavis & Butthead Box Set! 😀
THE SUN SUCKS.
The Lm-2 is such an underrated (and in many cases unknown) pedal.

Those are some of the reasons I’ve used the Cali76 since it came out, it stacks more like a low gain overdrive with other pedals
A couple of great suttle boss pefals
Great playing 🔥 which of the two pedals is better for natural tube compression simulation?
The CS-2 is a more apparent effect but still works well into an overdrive. The LM2 might be more natural sounding, especially when stacked with gain.
