I love the stained glass that is found in a lot of these mausoleums . Most of it is stunning. Thanks for the tour. Sad to see the one decaying and neglected. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤
Matthew I’ve missed your cemetery vids! Big time scruffies for winter! Cemeteries in winter are truly gloomy and grey places but still fascinating! Mausoleums are the bomb can’t resist them.
That first mausoleum was amazing, it looks like the brass doors had been cleaned sometime in the near past. Those ceder bushes were probably knee high when they were planted 150 years ago, they only grow an inch a year. Yes that Marshall mausoleum is falling apart. Makes you wonder what it will look like in 50 years. Compared to the other buildings that one was obviously not constructed properly. But at the time it probably looked like it would last forever. Thanks for another very interesting trip!
Hi Matt, the one that had the purple spray paint was actually a masonic mausoleum. A shame the other one is starting to collapse. Thank you for sharing. x
If you want to visit a beautiful, very old cemetery: Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum in St. Louis, Missouri (4947 W. Florissant Avenue). It has several famous people buried there. Look it up online. Love your videos.
again interesting cemetery tour, shame some people are disrespectful to the deceased throwing their rubbish into the mausoleums or damaging them, can not understand that, again thanks for sharing this video and showing your respects from across the pond in UK
Love the sound of trains in the background. Love how you at least show these cemeteries, I spend alot of time in them. Not many people around, which I like. Love watching, thanks.
Im so addicted... My sense of practicality in all things that stress our planet finds above ground internment a thoughtless extravagant act.The concept of perpetual care funding to provide for upkeep is revealing itself to be a grusome hoax nation wide.Your efforts at showcasing some of still remaining examples is truly enjoyed. But as a huge fan of sculpture and Stained glass, The finest examples of both remain entombed and inaccessible in these opulent memorial bunkers to American excess...Happy Holidays!
Family mausoleums are usually locked/sealed and not for public visitations. When the next family member dies the cemetery mgmt & maintenance should be able to open it for the next entombment. I'd like to hear more about the crumbling mausoleum with the beer cans in it. It seems much older than the surrounding ones. Who does it belong to, when was it constructed, etc. Thanks go out to you for your tour.
Hi Matt. Big cemetery, well maintained.Great variation in markers, used materials.Saw some WOW markers. Some mausoleums have beautiful details, ornaments ( doors, facade ).Always love to see glass stained windows in the mausoleums, so beautiful when sunlight shines through it (wilson //McCulloch //Bedell ).Seems like the window has been removed at the ""Osborn" mausoleum (replaced by bricks which look newer compared to the rest of the building ).Nice artwork on the statue to commemorate people who served during wartimes.Shame that the '' T.R. Marshall "mausoleum is so damaged, must be restored.Seems like all the parts which fell off survived and can be salvaged.Looking forward for# 2.Great explore Matt.Looks to be cold outside, but sun is shining.Sad to see that people used the mausoleum to have some fun, lack of respect for the deceased. Thanks Matt for taking us with you.Stay safe & keep warm during your explorations in wintertime Matt.
Thank you for braving the cold weather Matt... your vids are interesting and relaxing (except the scary ones-luv them) --always enjoyable. Still we Worry about your safety ! Carry bear spray--yes bear--works fantastic on any threat that may come your way !!!!! all the best...Deanna
@11:18 there's a male voice, 'John', you'll hear that with headfones. Interesting to know if the 'J' is indeed for John, but I didn't find anything. This whole history tale is well worth investigating on many levels, the J Wood Wilson mausoleum bears close resemblance to the classical late 17th century English style incorporated into his famous 'Wood Wilson house', a gift to his wife many years younger than him ..4yrs later her youthful vigour put him in an earlIER grave lol.
Blustery day really sets tone, but aged, hulking trees shedding diseased branches = sketchy in gusties. Heads up re precarious limbs & an eye groundwise for critter burrows. Blessed yrs end to u & urs, & a peaceful, prosperous 2020! Cheers, Matt!
Thanks Matt for sharing with me another interesting video about Crazy Mausoleums in Midwestern Graveyard i don't know why they didn't repair that one Mausolemum that was in very bad shape it was kind of strange seeing beer can in side part of that Mausoleum why would any body go in and party insed one of those that is not normal. and i can't wait to see your next video and God Bless and thanks again.
Beautiful Cemetery, love the oldies like this on2,so gorgeous, if you ever come to California, where my Mom and her family are buried, is gorgeous, very old, can only go in during the day. It's called Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles you would love it.
Don't know if you've ever heard of it but there are many very interesting mausoleums at a cemetery called Glendale Cemetery in Akron,Ohio. It also contains a civil war monument chapel with a climate controlled crypt underneath it. Quite the interesting place. Lots of history. Tons of beautiful artwork, stain glass ect...
You have made many awesome videos of cemeteries from all over and therefore in a good position of collecting data of decay of mausoleums/headstones. So, with all that knowledge what would you recommend to someone who wanted to build there own mausoleum to last as long as possible?
I'm not sure that those mausoleums are sealed. The slab appears to be a hinged marble door, which isn't that difficult to do as long as the hinges can support it. It was done fairly often in the late 19th and early 20th century. The danger is opening the door after long periods of time, it has to be examined for cracks in the area of the hinge attachments or the whole thing can break loose, and a door size slab can weigh upwards of a half a ton.
The badly damaged mausoleum is Thomas Riley Marshall 28th Governor of Indiana & 28th Vice President of the United States under President Woodrow Wilson. The damage was done in 2011 from a falling tree branch. A shame someone has not fixed Mr Marshall resting place...RIP Sir
That one mausoleum that had the crumbling wall and then bricked up. If party people were using the space for fun, why didn’t they clean up the space before bricking it up? This goes to show that cemeteries are not truly taken care of by the caretakers.
Hi Matt, I haven't watched your videos for a while and I completely enjoyed this video. Really a odd place to party but if you want privacy? Must cemeteries are open dawn to dusk. P.S.- I enjoyed the advertising too.
Matthew have you ever heard about a indian called Red Buck? He was shot and killed in Arapaho, Oklahoma way back in the 1800 or 1900's he is later to rest in the Arapaho, oklahoma cemetery in Custer county
Do you stay in special cemetery motels or something? Special rates for people in crates? Can you imagine such a business? Lol. I just didn't get out much either when I was a kid. Don't mind me. I'm the guy picking his nose and cooking the greasy burgers at the diner. Lol
Son you need to read a book...then maybe you would know more about what your seeing. For instance the monument with the soldier on top was for members of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). They were Union soldiers who fought for the North during the American Civil war 1861-65. (GAR) is written on the obelisk. It's NOT just for soldiers from the area. I appreciate your effort though, looks like that area is depressed from the days when the cemetery was opened. Took lots of money to build those crypts and statuary. No one is keeping it up.
It is ashamed that people destroy the property and final resting places of these families. SMH...GO GET A JOB, MAKE SOME PURCHASES AND WATCH OTHERS DESTROY YOUR THINGS!!
539, I don’t understand why these cemeteries don’t do some of the cosmetic work done to the mausoleums. If for no other reason than the name of the cemetery and the desire to have others use their grounds. These places are not non profit...they are gaining profits like mad....come on, respect the deceased as you claim you do, and do some cosmetic work. Yes, I know some families leave repair funds..but even if monies are not left, those mausoleums are a magnet for families who want to build one, or buy plots....SMH...cremation is my choice, no niche either!
You have to wonder, when the owners decided to have these tombs constructed, what was their expectation for how long they would last? A hundred years? Two hundred? More? And then what would happen to the bodies inside? Being above ground, the bodies would be subject to freezing and thawing as the seasons changed. When you are in the ground, your monument may fall down and disappear, but your body can remain there.
Certainly nothing with cinder blocks and tar roofs like the many that are revealing themselves to be Americas next huge and costly biohazard.what a ghastly mess for our not to far in the future generations to deal with...
The IOOF cemetery. Lots of relatives buried there. Martin Boots is buried there--one of the first settlers in the Marion area. One of 2 people who donated land to create Marion.
So sad to see how some just fell apart. But you gave it dignity and not exploit how terrible they look.
I love the stained glass that is found in a lot of these mausoleums . Most of it is stunning. Thanks for the tour. Sad to see the one decaying and neglected. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤
Massive mausoleums and trees, in a massive cemetery. Great video.

Those mausoleums were pretty shallow but some were very tall. Thanks Matt, that was a cool visit. Take care. ✌
Thanks Matt for another great cemetery tour, Mausoleums are my favorite, the strained glass in one of them was beautiful. Take care. 😊
Enjoyed the video thank you for sharing.
Lovely place. Who in their right mind has beers in a Mausoleum that is sadly falling apart? Looking forward to pt.2.
Maybe a friend or family member, payed a visit to have one last beer, for all the memories they had together.
Nice explore! Looking forward to part two…
Oh damn...when you walked up to that smaller white mausoleum I thought your reflection was a body exposed inside lol...Scared the crap out a me.😁😆
Matt, thank-you for all your time, & work that you put in all of the videos. tfs, happy holidays!
again interesting cemetery tour, shame some people are disrespectful to the deceased throwing their rubbish into the mausoleums or damaging them, can not understand that, again thanks for sharing this video and showing your respects from across the pond in UK

Beautiful stained glass in that one mausoleum.

Another mausoleum with door knockers! Who answers the knock?
Love your videos.
I love cemetary videos.
Finally got a phone so I can interact with your live streams. Btw it was great to see you make it to Bachelor's Grove Cemetery.
Awesome! Thanks, I was happy to finally make it that way!
GREAT job!!
Thanks, Sandra!

I'm thinking about maybe a drive in movie.
@@zelbole your right a drive in IS a excellent place for privacy. Kevin I have been so lonely.
My maiden surname is McCulloch, I wonder if I am a relation. I live in New Zealand🇳🇿
It is so disrespectful of the dead to spray paint or party but then I guess there are people who don't know how to show respect----so so sad..
Very interesting cemetery. However, it's always unfortunate the lack of respect some show for the final resting spots of others.
Agree
I think i saw someone following you. It might have been an Amish buggy ir a person on a unicycle.
awesome video
Fun ride..
Matthew have you ever heard about a indian called Red Buck? He was shot and killed in Arapaho, Oklahoma way back in the 1800 or 1900's he is later to rest in the Arapaho, oklahoma cemetery in Custer county
Thomas R Marshall was the 28th Vice President of the United States, and former Governor (27th) of Indiana!
He was Woodrow Wilson's VP from 1913 to 1921.
I LOVE your channel! What is the significance of “539”?
That's a long explanation! But there are a few vids about it on this and my second channel!
When mankind eventually destroys itself, cemeteries will be all that remain of us.
Did you find any mausoleums in Michigan?
❤️
I never understood why they want trees in graveyards they just fuck everything up.
Bom dia 539

So when did the authorities find the recording device ala "Blair Witch Project?"
Unhallowed grounds🤨
Why do you always point the camera down to record you walking? I counted at least 4 times. I’m not judging, just curious.
