After listening to the original when the OST was released, I knew I wanted to cover it. But there was a issue - there were no references. So I sat down and went to see if I could transcribe it myself. Turns out, yes. Though not without issue, mostly stemming from figuring out what the BPM was supposed to be. I also struggled quite a bit with the chorus, where in spite of being absolutely certain I got the notes for the instrumentals and the vocal right, when put together, it sounded wrong. Turns out, that's just part of the original composition, but there it's not really noticeable with the pitched instrumentals being buried in the mix. All in all, it took me 16 hours to transcribe, with additional 2 for corrections. But I did it, something I'm quite proud of.
When it came to arranging, I mused whether to include the intro or not, or if I should start from the familiar RLR1 motif like the in-show version of the track did. Ultimately, I decided to include the intro, mostly for completions' sake. For the guitars, I kept things fairly close to the original this time, with the biggest deviation being in the riff before the solo, and solo itself. The latter went through a bunch of different iterations until I got something I was satisfied with. The last addition being the background noises heard during the first half of it. These are artefacting from a audio channel ripped from the original, which I did for referencing. But finding it kinda sounded like mocking chatter, I had the idea to include them to allude to Ruby's intrusive thoughts, having them appropriate fade out as the chords take on a more triumphant tone.

As for the solo, I pretty much always come up with my own. IMO, solos more than anything else are a artist's personal touch. Unless it's the point to make a 1-1 replica, copying it just feels wrong. 😄

Been keeping an eye out for covers of this song. I really like the original version, but I feel it falls just short of its full potential. Something that a couple of different artistic choices could reach. While this doesn't do what I would have done to the song, I think this direction hits a different, fantastic peak. I use music to inspire stories and characters for my table top games and other projects. This honestly paints a whole new picture in my head, and I can't wait to listen to this a hundred times for inspiration.
