Hey everyone! In today's video I'm sharing my thoughts about Tempera sticks and how they compare to Del Green sticks.
    Get them-

Spoiler alert- I like the Tempera ones more for their color choice, packaging and availability.
These are great for sketchbooks and to paint with kids.

Kwik Stix has this shape and a thinner pencil like shape! They’re super good quality and I really like using the thinner pencil shape in sketchbooks ❤️

I have these and find them fun to take out with a big pad, Derwent drawing black pencil, wet wipe and big waterbrush. They are great for quick, easy, abstract outdoor paintings.... give it a try, it's a fun way to ease into no-hassle plein air with your daughter.

Nice vid! I bought a basic pack called Studio at Dollarama, which are the same as the solid coloured tubes. They worked great and I ended up getting the Craftsmart sets at Michael's with coupons. The Craftsmart ones have a Sharpie-like barrel instead of a tube.
They're so fun to play with. Will you also be doing a tutorial for these? 🙆

I really enjoy tempera sticks! I recently bought a pastel hues set, which has been lovely! They’re so fun to make marks with and I love that they dry waterproof.

I ordered these last week! Absolutely love them. I’m thinking about ordering the pastel ones too. They’re opaque

Wow! 🤩 I agree that the tempura sticks have some better colors. Amazon is having a lightning deal for the 40 color set for the same price as the 32 set but only for the next 15 minutes 🎉

I recently got these through Amazon, and they are fun! Quite fat, so not so much control which makes it easy to be "loose" and lovely vibrant colours.

Oh Irit, it has been such a long time since I last heard you on a video, but I recognised your lovely lilt immediately. :). I have been experiementing with my supplies a lot and am really particular about the pigment not feeling gummy or sticky to the touch afterwards. These tempura sticks sounds exactly what I was looking for! A colour rich medium that are enjoyable to work with and dry on paper lets me work up concepts for canvases and other substrates. :)

@@iritlandgraf :) ty! I have been playing with the tempura sticks today in a Dina Wakely journal -- I have a hard time with the burlap pages . They apply really well but are not drying over acrylic paint layers which is expected but I was hopeful til I tried. Some of the colours are transparent and it is really fun to layer basic geometric shapes overlapping each other a bit. They also worked really well on lighter weight paper, , a little less than 100 gsm notebook from the Tim Holtz line. For me, these were definitely worth trying at least once, but I may not repurchase unless my skill level catapults past making circles.

Haha challenging stuff! Those burlap pages are not my fave at all... I mostly just glued stuff on top...
I think the tempra sticks are great for quick studies, colour studies and just relaxing, no special skills necessary ☺️

Thanks for commenting! I use them for sketching, color studies and playing, not on "proper" pictures since they are not artist grade.

What Tempera Paint Sticks do you recommend for artwork you would sell? High end, top end tempera stick?

    • @iritlandgraf

Hi! I'm not familiar with any, sorry! The closest thing for a similar effect would be oil pastels (which need a fixative) or oil sticks. Many artist grade brands make the first ones, Sennelier and R&F make good oil sticks. However unlike tempra sticks, you can't really layer much on top of oil pastels or sticks... Hope that somewhat helps 😬
