When they do this live Geddy is singing, playing the bass and synth pedals all at the same time. Neil said he never got tired of playing this song because it was so difficult, his right hand is going full throttle the whole time, that he always got a sense of satisfaction whenever he played it well.
It's so nice seeing the younger generation appreciate the awesome music of yesterday. There are so many amazing bands and subgenras of rock/metal from the 70s, 80s, 90s you're in for a wild journey✌
Neil Perth on the drums he passed away a couple of years ago. He was definitely one of the best ever.... Man these guys were a high school dance band seen the play alot of dances around SW Ontario.
It was the song that put them on the map forever. These three guys are really the ultimate perfect storm of any rock band in the music industry. Incredible genius behind the making
Rush = Genius; they make mind blowing music. Regardless if they are a 3 piece band; they're better than most 4 or 5 or.....whatever piece band out there.
This is Le Studio where Rush recorded their best-selling album, Moving Pictures from 1981. Tom Sawyer is considered their #1 song. Please react to Witch Hunt from this album.
Geddy sings and plays: Bass guitar 6 string acoustic guitar (Resist live) Moog Taurus pedal board Keyboards On stage he could be seen playing more than one at a time. I've seen him singing, playing the pedals with his feet, the mini Moog with his hands all whilst playing a double neck 4 string bass and 12 string electric guitar (Xanadu). I'm really enjoying the reactions to the music that has been the soundtrack to my life and times 🤘💯 Tioraidh an-drasta 🏴✌️
"Working man" Live in Cleveland and or "The Garden" Live Both must watch IMO. So much more over 4o years but these be in your lane for sure. Cheers!. Thanks guys!
this was RUSH in a period of transition; from long, epic songs to shorter, just as epic songs. It still has the time signature shifts of earlier RUSH. This song was one of the ones on the Guitar Hero video game series.
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
I drove 6 hours from Kansas City to Topeka Kansas in a blizzard on an interstate road that was closed shortly after I got on it to go see these guys live! Well worth it! I love Rush!
Geddy Lee is also playing Taurus Bass Pedals with his feet to play bass parts while he is also playing keyboards, also Obermeyer keyboard and mini moog, 6 string Rickenbacker bass guitar and Rickenbacker double neck bass.
the notes, riffs, fills are so clean and high you could eat a sandwich between each note - it is just clean and smart, so full - these musicians are never messy - always pure and authentic in their genius -
Just think boys I was 13 years old my older brother took me to my first concert it was Rush now I'm a 59 year-old man and I have every one of their albums listen to their music daily it's great to see the younger generation appreciate their musicianship
2112 boys, 2112!!! 23 min of an insane story, guitar solo after guitar solo, insane vocals and base lines from Geddy and Neil going OFF on the drums… for 23 min!!!! Lol lol Try to do the comic book version of the song and it will help you to navigate the story line of the song 🤘🔥
@@mdu2112 I only recommend comic book version as for those who are just falling into the Rush rabbit hole don’t fully get the story line behind the song, kinda helps them as they get lost in the sauce of a 23 min gem 🤘
One of my favorite ways to get someone into Rush is to show them the live video of “Natural Science” and/or “La Villa Strangiato” off the “Rush in Rio” dvd. “La Villa…” includes a rant by Alex towards the end of the song that showcases their silliness and humor in the midst of MAYBE the best version of that song. Great reaction guys. You have a good thing going and I think you’re going to gain a ton of subs if you just stay at it. There are a few bands that have rabid followers who love to spread the word so since reaction channels feed into that emotion for people it’s a smart move to feature them to a degree. Rush is one of them. Tool is another. Good luck!
Great reaction, I'm a Rush fan till 1980 and their the best progressive rock band. Ok answer your question: Geddy Lee plays bass, bass pedal, synth, Korg Synth and Roland pedal synth also guitar in certain song to help Alex. Alex Lifeson plays all guitars and pedal synth. Neil Peart plays drums and percusion also wrote the lyrics. Special note, Rush never uses others musician or computers gadgets un live performances. And sound the same as studio versions. Excelent reaction
FYI: Geddy does sing, play bass, keyboards and sometimes rhythm guitar. The foot pedals are so that he can play synthesizer notes while playing bass, and he also has bass pedals so that he can do the opposite, and play keyboards while tapping a bass line with his feet. The bongos are just there in the studio (Le Studio in Quebec, now just rubble) so that those recording vocals there have something to do to offset boredom during the long breaks between "takes". You'll notice Geddy is using the bongos to hold his ashtray. Lol.
Great review of a great song - you've got a new subscriber 🙂 The post below mentions how awesome it is to see young people getting into the music we grew up with and I concur.
Yeah I've heard that comment before. The lyrics in this song are top notch . Reminds of " never to walk these caves of ice" XAN---A---DOOO. oooooooo. Pearts lyrics so literary and intellectual.
Hi. So, been Rush for long time. And what gets me about TSawyer and Limelight is in fact they're so tight. The drums are tight and crisp. Guitar... You can tell how "learned" everyone is and over the years has gotten better, but even these early Rush videos these 3 gentlemen are bad-ass!!
Hi friends, if you're gonna be listening to more tunes like this, you gotta get yourself some quality headphones. And listen to the music on both ears. One-sided airpods just don't cut it for bands like Rush, and believe me it just comes in so much clearer. The production levels on this type of stuff is off the charts, and goes mostly unnoticed with this setup. Looking forward to more great reactions!
Well, this IS one of their more popular songs! Geddy Lee plays keyboards and bass....he plays pedal bass when he's playing keyboards and pedal keyboards when he'd playing bass, haha!

Also harder than their prog rock stuff. Just a suggestion. I personally think it'd make an excellent reaction vid...and both it and this are very playlist worthy.
As I said before just subbed so I'm making the rounds 😂. This song is fire live. When I saw them live they freaking rocked both times. RIP to the Professor Neil . One of the greatest drummers of all time
Absolutely
Quite simply three geniuses at the peak of their creativity and masters of their art.
Funny as F!! Dudes jumped in the first note!! Great song! Lots of great Rush!
The Rush “jump scare” when that first note hits… great reaction!

Rush says this their signature song. ❤ It's a blast watching some young fellows learn about Rush.
The most iconic drum roll of all times.....

Rush = The awesome band that keeps on giving...
Ahh one of the staple songs of rock! Great for any generation. Timeless! Great job guys 👍✌️
Definitely playlist worthy.
This is industrial rock at its best.
Changes aren't permanent, but change is. What a great line!
Probably my favorite line in all of Rush’s songs.

Rush makes songs in 7 time that are so accessible you don't even notice it's in 7 time.

It took me long enough to see them perform LIVE but I finally did in 2009. Cincy, OH .
Glad y'all dig'm !!
Excellent guys, now if you want to see Rush turn 20+ minutes into what feels like 5, you need to do 2112. Masterpiece.
Geddy plays keyboard (competent), bass (world class), foot pedals, 12 string guitar, and sings lead.
When Geddy isn’t playing the base, Neil compensates with his drums. One of the best percussionists to have ever lived!!
RIP NEIL!!!!!!!!
Worthy? Yes. The whole album is a treasure.
