Resident of Alpine here! Thanks for the visit and all the history I didn’t know about! You made it seem far more interesting than it actually is here. 😅
Hi. US citizen resident in Jalisco, MX looking to relocate to Alpine/Terlingua area. Is it possible on a budget of about $2,000USD/month? (In the country. bringing 1 horse and 1 dog).
Thank you again for another great video, and the nice side insights from Marty and you Sally. I hope that you continue to make videos, such as I have viewed, in the past.
Thanks for sharing all the little history tidbits. You help people like myself to find about the small towns around our country. Keep it up! I think the building might be the one with the cowboy on it that is your kind if place. However I just realized this video is from 3 months ago. Love the houses you pointed out near the end of the video. Especially love red brick house!
excellent history lesson. i call them the 'Welcome Howitzers' and there are lots. amazing you can dig up so many facts, Marty has great insights. be safe out there.
I’ve been watching you for months and just realized I wasn’t subscribed. I guess RUclips loves you because you always show up on my screen and click every time. You went to towns I never knew existed in my native state! NM.
People do not forget that Texas was a Confederate state. I should know I'm a Texan. So we are proud of all of our history and the Confederacy is part of it. Just a FYI from a Texan.
Southern people are proud of our heritage, we were on the confederate side during the Civil War and our families lost a lot of Sons, Brothers and Father's through it all. There is an international boundry marker still standing from the Republic of Texas in Carthage as well as markers for the old Spanish road. It's important to remember that president Jackson's Indian removal act forced many of our families out this way just 30 years before the Civil War and that the North claimed the South started the war when the truth is the North failed to vacate shipyards and forts when the South seceded and they really weren't theirs anymore.

Alpine is an awesome little town. I will be driving through there in a few months on my way to Marfa.
Is it Front Street Books? Don't worry Sally, we love you as much as we love Marty, both of you are fun, and interesting. What a town with lots of rich history, many times I'll imagine dirt roads, horses, buggies, Chuck wagons, and hitching post instead of vehicles driving down the main streets of some of these towns you give us history lessons on.👍👍👍
Grew up in alpine. Video is nice but the town is actually much prettier than your video shows. Sitting at a mile high the weather is perhaps the best in texas. The Rocky Mountains start right in alpine. Took too much for granted when I lived there
Nice video Sally and Marty. The 105 Howitzers are in use in Ukraine, many from the 1940s. Stay safe and warm, we had about 5 inches of snow with more to come they say. The snow is really wet also so it turned to ice as the temps fell today.
Lived in Alpine from 1963/1968 and again 1975/1980. Parents lived there from 1963/2005. Great place for Geology @SRSU..It's a tough economic environment. I'll check out your Mingus video I live up on Possum Kingdom Lake not far from Mingus. Keep up the good videos.
Sul Ross “Gradurate” here! Alpine has certainly changed since the late 70’s/80’s. I had many a long neck Pearl at the Toltec in 1979. The Casners were still selling cars then, the Rangra’s hadn’t bought the theater yet and the Casa Blanca served Vinegar Pie.
Wow, awesome video. I have never been to Alpine, but I have wanted to go for a long time. I saw a great indie film some years ago called "Dancer, Texas, population 81." It was about a fictitious town east of Alpine. Set in contemporary times, it shows the ups and downs of living in a small, remote town. One of the main characters winds up going to Sul Ross state college in Alpine. A lot of scenes for the film were shot in Alpine. I love the old buildings. I will have to find a way to get out there before I get any more 'historic.' 😉
I rode Amtrak thru Alpine last year (west bound) The train stops there for a 10-minute 'fresh air break,' when everyone disembarks and smokes cigarettes. Your great video made me wish I'd gotten off the train, explored town and then resumed my journey the next day.
This is my second comment, on this video. You said, I believe, that you had never seen or heard of a drive thru, beer & wine store. Where I grew up, in Glenn Dale Md., in Prince George's County, the next town close to us, on Seabrook Md., had a drive thru beer & wine store in the 60's thru 90's. Since I now live on Mds., Eastern Shore, I don't know if that drive thru, is still there.
Living in Louisiana, believe me the drive-thru cocktail is a severely watered down affair! I grew up in Racine & Eau Claire. WI is right-on to NOT have drive-thru bars----Wisconsin people would not accept watered down cocktails!!!
Next time I pass an elderly person I'm going to tell them they are historic and see if I get my lights punched out. LOL I have never been to Alpine. Now I wanna visit!
Great video very informative about our Texas history you do a great job if you ever get down our way please stop and say howdy, I live in quemado tx, north of eagle pass
Hey Sally! I know you're from northeastern Wisconsin so I'm here from southern Wisconsin to tell you there is a drive-thru liquor store in Janesville! 🍻 cheers
If you do, stop at Decatur Dairy cheese store & get some of the best cheese curds in the world or an awesome grilled cheese. My daughter & granddaughter work there
A great video Sally as always was Marty thinking about taking that Cannon home to replace the small one at home ? How is mocha doing I hope she's fine you guys stay happy healthy and safe thanks for the video 🏆🌺👍✌️
Drive thru liquor ? They have those in Georgia ? So I been told ! Really crazy & dangerous on the road sally ! South , always different! But very interesting old Town & I'm sure lots old stories of the past !
Very true Glenn. There are plenty of people who get behind the wheel when clearly they shouldn’t. Having drive thru liquor stores in Wisconsin probably isn’t such a good idea now that I think about it.
@@SightseeingSally I know ! Can't imagine buying a bloody mary & off you go out on the road ! My nephew experience it in Georgia ! Your right so many out there driving & they shouldn't ! Love tonhear those old stories at the saloon !
First time I encountered a drive-through booze store was in Yuma. I too am very surprised there are none in WI. I have never seen so many drunk people as I have in WI.
You stuck in Texas ? Or their just because it's warmer,. 😆 Cool video,I know a badass homeless shelter in San Antonio Texas on Nolan street blocks from the Alamo
I'm from Alpine myself; To me It's the largest city in the largest county; second largest 😅 State in the United States in America Brewster Country earthquake city Alpine Texas.
Resident of Alpine here! Thanks for the visit and all the history I didn’t know about! You made it seem far more interesting than it actually is here. 😅
Thank you Chelsea, this is the greatest compliment I could ever get ❤️ and you’re welcome! I enjoyed exploring your town very much.

Yep same here! I think I might have been like....2 years old?
Your videos are so very watchable. Zero BS or attitude. Just, here we are, here's what we experienced. Pretty nice for a change. Thanks.
I appreciate that! Thank you 😊
A beautiful little town.
thank you for visiting my town that i grew up.. I love seeing people discover the best town in Texas.
Thank you again for another great video, and the nice side insights from Marty and you Sally. I hope that you continue to make videos, such as I have viewed, in the past.
You are so welcome! Glad you are enjoying the videos.
Alpine is a wonderful town, I always dreamed of living there.
I'm always amazed at your research. Enjoyed the vid. Beautiful blue skies in the background.
I love these old obscure towns you guys take us to. each town comes with it own history that you research for us. Thanx!
My favorite town in Texas!!
Nice field trip again, what a peaceful easy feeling these adventures are. You two make a great traveling band. Looking forward to the next journey.

Kansas is better. Conservative abolitionist state.

Alpine is a beautiful little town. Lived in Fort Davis Texas for many years and worked at Sul Ross College.
Enjoyed your video and all that history, thank you 🙏
Thanks again for the travelogue! I've been through Alpine on Amtrak a few times but never stopped.

As they say in the south, Sally, you're a hoot. Hey, to Marty. Stay well. Merry Christmas and God bless you.

Vinegar Pie sounds rather interesting.🤔
You should do a video on Fort Davis texas. Beautiful community and the fort is really neat they have there. Lived there for years and loved it.
They did.
Why didn’t you mention the baseball field? Kokernot field??? Tons of cool history with the field and stadium.
There used to be a drive up window at "Dads" liquor store in Woodruff Wisconsin. Not sure if it's still there anymore.
I love TEXAS.
Sally, I enjoyed your tour, but I am a bit disappointed that you didn't mention Sul Ross State University, located in Alpine.
Keep touring!
My last assignment before retiring was in the 36th Infantry Division. My uncle also served in it in WWII.
Love Alpine it's awesome place I go threw their going to my property in big bend.
New subscriber here.🖐 Glad I ran across your channel. 😃👍
Awesome! Thank you! Welcome 👋🏻😄
There is a Drive Thru Liquor store in Necedah, WI., on RT-80 just south of RT-21.
I guess I need to explore more of Wisconsin
Yes! but is it a place that will serve you a prepared cocktail by a drive-thru? Doubt it...🤔

Drive in liquor store in New Richmond Wisconsin. In NW Wisconsin near the twin cities.
Oh Wisconsins not new to drive thrus.
The granada theater?? Is that your building we are to guess?
it was a good guess, but not the one. I was talking about the bookstore 😊
Since your in texas come to San Angelo and visit me 🥺
M-A-R-T-Y!
Lol 😂
The Granada Theater building.
Tragic fire on main street this past month. Several business and historic buildings lost.
I wonder how many of these old buildings (especially the old hospital and hotel) are haunted
You will find plenty of drive through liquor stores in Texas
The theater?
Good guess, but it’s the bookstore. 🤓
Need to always show former and cure fire stations
The book store?
