As a musician and producer, I agree with the others, at least as far as rock is supposed to be dirty and sexy. That is not what religion is. It's why people didn't film Elvis belOw the waste... now they WANT the rock beat, which is about sex in almost all ways.
Have you see the movie Footloose? That's the point that Bill was making about rock & roll and Christian rock. It's an oxymoron. Rock & roll is about having a good time and dancing and getting loose around the opposite sex (or the same, do your thing), and Christianity is about not doing those things.
Listen to Kate Smith's "How Great Thou Art" from 1978 for RCA Records which would be her next-to-last album before her death in 1987 and you'll see why these inspirational songs in this timeless album were always great to listen to. And even films like "Footloose" and "Joyful Noise" were very successful. Which they're focusing on rock & roll & Christian rock. Sometimes, rock & roll is about having good times and dancing and getting loose around the opposite sex or same, do your thing. But Christianity is about not doing one of those things.
Rock has always been sex and dirt. It's why people would not show Elvis below the waist, not the want the devils beat for they're own Music... that is coopting and gross. They don't go together. Rock is street And a sexy beat. There is no arguing that. Like what you like, but like religion, you're in denial of reality.
Trouble is you have people like Bill and co talking about the rock n roll lifestyle who have never been in it, it's disappointing that American TV, even what is supposed to be a somewhat intelligent discussion, reverts to shits and giggles
Bill states that Christianity co-opted Rock and Roll and that Rock and Roll's origins were the antithesis of Christianity . But he is incorrect on both statements. Rock and Roll's origins are 1/3 Gospel. If you go back to the beginning there is not one pioneer of the art form who wasn't a bible thumper. Bill is dating Rock and Roll to the late 1960s. However, if anything, that is where the music was hijacked. That is when Rythem and Blues music that teenagers could dance to became associated with debauchery.
Is that why the religious fools would not show Elvis below the belt...?? Now they want the beat... I think not. Christian rock is like ice cream and piss.
Rock comes from blues and country western music. gospel has nothing to do with it, besides mild impact like little Richards whose vocals were gospel trained, no more impact than jazz and classical or anything else. But go back to the 1920s. Blues was made by drug taking sinners playing dances and parties.
Christian porn.. this guy breaks it. and nah... christian rock wtf. it sounded uncanny also to me soon as I heard it. i understood something like that was bound to happen. but fuck it... did not respect it as it always felt uncomfortable and trying to oddly fit.
I love Bills hat routine. Damn that's funny AF 🤣😂🤣
I like how the rock star is the one level headed person in this episode.

9 times out of -0 "dancing and getting loose" leads to drinking and sex. I rest my case.
@@morbidmanmusic That's what I'm trying to say in my comment, it's true.
@@morbidmanmusic I agree on this one and thanks for the reminder.
