I have lived just up on this road for a year and a half till March 2019 when I was living in London and even worked as a chef at the historic Salisbury Pub that you just passed by in the video (right corner at minute 11:12). I walked this street over a thousand times maybe! Now I no longer live in the UK but watching this nice video has made me walk this road again bringing me to the past and reviving a lot of memories! Thank you for that! (From Italy!)
Thanks for the comment and sharing your memory with us. That's so lovely to hear your story with this street..!
Brings back memories, I walked under that Harringay bridge for for many years on my way to school. All my friends lived along the ladder. Great memories!
What are the demographics of the area, where are the people originally from that live there? X
@@jannaj9598 oh wow good question, it has changed dramatically. In the 60-70’s it had a larger Cypriot and English community. My friends whom still live in the area tell me that there is a large Kurdish community. Many Turkish / Kurdish restaurants. Most of my friends moved further north, Palmers Green, Southgate, Barnet etc.
@@yusuframadan4973 yes there are. My boyfriend is Turkish-Kurdish and he always drives me to Haringey area. That’s why I asked.
I lived in this area during my time in London. Thank you for the video!
Thank you for taking the effort it took, to film this! My, what a dive Harringay has become.
Old Ale Emporium is a great pub, always visit it each time I visit the area
My boyfriend lives around Haringey area. I remember him always driving through these roads.
Lived in Harringay in the late 90's - early 2000's... Thanks for showing me my front door on Green Lanes!
Memories and I will be back here to visit this year
Nice to to see where i was born and lived sixty five years ago, its a pity you didn't focus on the nameplate's at the ends of each road as you past they were too small to read. I remember Rena Motors near Endymion Road, opposite Harringay Arena, Derek Newport's radio & TV store on the corner of umfreville road, Strand Motor Cycles, Banks Motor Cycles, Greenaway Printers, further down Green lanes on the left. Also Alison's sweet shop and newsagent's on the corner of Alison road. Hemmings bakers on the corner of Beresford road, Harris's Domestic Stores in between Beresford road & Effingham road where Medlocks is now, I worked at both those places Harris's after school every night and Medlocks full time for a while. The entrance to Medlocks was at the time accessed only from Effingham Road, but now see they've got the place where Harris's Store use to be. Nice trip down memory lane thank you, of course there are more places and the road where I was born the next road up thanks again :-)
.......we bought a Vespa Scooter from either Strand or was it Banks ??? I also worked full time at Medlocks for years. I lived very near in one of the Harringay Ladder roads.
Hi nice to hear from you, I also bought a scooter it was a Vespa Sportique but from from Rena Motors brand new for £139-00. I eventually ended up selling it to Strand Motors Cycles, I also lived in the Harringay ladder then 1959 I moved just on the edge of it at near Wightman Road and Finsbury Park. Do you remember Brookers Motorcycle's at Queen's Parade Green Lanes, David Brooker was one of my mates, in fact all my mates had scooters. Those were the days I wish I was back there in the sixties again, anyway nice chatting to you bye for now.
Very interesting to watch. Thanks very much
Thanks for watching and the comment.!
Beautiful! Always such a pleasure to watch you walk. Thank you so much for your time and effort.
Thank you so much for the kind words.!
@@WanderersArchive Great! Thank you! If you promise to watch my videos from beginning to end, I will do the same. This way, we can chalk up more watch hours for each other.
Blimey, I used to live near here too, near Black Boy Lane at Chestnut's Park end in the mid 80s.
I was just there love it
If I ever made to North London, would probably check out Finsbury park. 🚶👀🌄
We have filmed a part of Finsbury Park as well, will upload later.!
Amazing food on Green Lanes
I lived here for years down the side road with all the Scaffolding, you could always get some milk anytime over the road in the Dostlar mini supermarket, baklava and ice cream in the Saloon just round the corner, and it felt like every third shop will do you a kebab (King Kebab did a fantastic Lamb Shish and used to be in the closed corner shop but now earlier down the road I see). Manor House Dental Surgury is still there where my Turkish Lady dentist was so small she had to climb on my chest to pull a wisdom tooth. I was always in Dave's Newsagents next to the bus stop topping up my Oyster card or gas/electric, more than one time I forgot my wallet and they just said pop in later and pay us, now that's community and they always got my custom. I had my first proper Turkish Delight from a string here when my Greek Cypriot landlord took me to one of his stock up places. I said to him I thought you Greeks didn't like the Turks and he said hey business is business :)

Great tour my friend. Full view always👍👍😍
Thanks for watching and the comment.! 🌷
Seems odd to see green lanes before the covid hit, the William hill store is now a shop so this bust be a couple of years old
So nice walking friend
Thanks for watching.! 🌺
Not one shop do i remember from the 1950s and 60s,remember the 29 bus though!
...........not even Disney's??? It was a Great furniture Store/Shop, we bought our bedrooms & lounge furniture in there. Excellent Service & Staff they had!
Amazing sound !!!
Thank you, actually you are the first one ever mentioned about sound.!
I LIVED IN LONDON FOR TOO LONG, I REALLY WANT TO MOVE TO LEEDS, NEWCASTLE OR PORTSMOUTH 🇹🇷🇹🇷💪💪
........be careful what you "wish" for, especially if you're STILL working & looking for PAID work. London is the only place to work & make yourself & family A GOOD INCOME. IMHO
This used to be home ❤️
How do make you video so smooth like your on wheels, there is no up and down motion like your walking along.
I was born in Tottenham, move out 48 years ago.
Here is a clue BUSHFIRES.
Steven, thanks for watching. For the up & down motion, ’Ninja walk' is the answer. But it's really hard to do it for a long time like these videos, so I am still looking for and trying a different method for recent footages.
@@WanderersArchive ninja walk, so it's not some electronic effect on the camera but the way you walk.
Do people look at you oddly and run away???
@@Steven_Rowe The stabiliser on the camera helps a little bit, but not so much esp. for up & down motion. Yes most people laugh at me, you can probably find them somewhere in my footages, but I care much more about the results, so I do ninja walk whenever it is possible. But please see our trailer video people wave at me, they are examples of people's response to my weird walking, I really love that kind of interactions, perhaps you can't find in other channel's footages filmed by "hidden" mini camera with normal walk.
@@WanderersArchive I know if I video walking along the camera motion is obvious which is why I was interested in your technique
@@Steven_Rowe You might check Nippon wondering TV, he does truly amazing job at that point. He uses different, and better setting than me, but he also recommended to try Ninja walk for the best results
I think I can still name every road on the ladder
Wow, that's amazing.!👍
Turkish area
I was very interested to watch this one as it's my local neighbourhood. I've lived here since 1998. The street seems relatively quiet and not crowded, so I'm guessing you filmed this fairly early in the morning?
I think it was filmed early afternoon on weekday, agree with you that it was rather quiet. By the way, I personally love the Harringay Passage, a backstreet of this, and want to film some time.
@@WanderersArchive I like the Harringay Passage too. Yes, it would be a good walk to film. There are lots of little details of things to see. Different types of bricks and paving stones, and views of the backs of houses. On a summer evening you can hear people in their gardens as you walk past. My favourite thing along there is a wall where people have been carving their names or initials for over 100 years.
@@dubmill Didn't know the names curved on the wall, that sounds interesting. I will find them next time I get there. Thank you for the info.
@ Thanks so much, I'll check it next time.!

Is N22 5ET a nice area to live in, please?

...........it was common knowledge decades & decades ago that the - turks especially - were happy to gamble their OWN Homes away in the backs of the" hardly disguised "Harringay gambling-dens".
HARINGEY IS A VERY TURKISH AREA. NEARLY, EVERYONE THERE IS TURKISH.
......turkish cypriots.
IT USED TO BE TURKISH AND GREEK CYPRIOTS, LIVING THERE BUT OVER THE YEARS, MOST OF THE GREEK CYPRIOTS, HAD MOVED OUT OF HARINGEY AND MORE TURKISH PEOPLE, HAVE ARRIVED THERE FROM TURKEY. IT DOESN'T MATTER, IF I SAY TURKISH OR TURKISH CYPRIOTS, EITHER WAY, THEY ARE TURKISH.
Live before the corona hehe :)

I drove number 29-221 Buses in 1975 plenty of English people then now it’s very hard to see one .what a bloody shame London has been decimated by Islam sad very sad.some body playing there bloody foreign music see what I mean London is finished.RIP London.
White British is still over 30% in Haringey. And the 2nd largest category is Other White. See Wikipedia.
I grew up in harringay in the late 60-70s and went to school in Hornsey , Stationers. It was predominantly white English then with a large Cypriot , Turkish and West Indian population. It is very different today, however, so is the rest of london. The price of colonialism I presume. Anyhow. I loved it and will always be the best memories of my life!
I grew up there from the late 60s till 1990. It was a majority Greek & Turkish Cypriots then. A great community!
We took the 29 into central regularly, great bus ride.
what does Islam have to do with foreign music?
This is one of the most depressing place to live on planet earth. I hate it
What's wrong with it? I moving there in a few weeks I would be grateful for ur info
Why
@@anitagordon1199 where are you moving from?
Moved away in the early 90s, it was a great place in the 60 & 70s!
@@anitagordon1199 It's fine, there is nothing wrong with it!
Someone said it has changed, Green Lanes looks almost exactly the same as when I left in 1987 (Did pop back now and then up to 2010).I did notice less Greek and Cypriot shops, there was more back then. We never called it a High Street Wood Green for that just Green Lanes. I left after three minor incidents but they toak me over the top. (Riots near here were 1981,1985).A hundred person queue outside the Post Office shown on this video which shows it as shut down and being almost attacked twice along that road coming back from work. I had to wear a tie. Most of my family had left in the 1950s for Australia USA or around England. A hidden gem would be to get permission to walk along the New River which flows next to Green Lanes very close to houses ,not used for drinking water now but alas the last I heard could not be opened up for the public still. In 1976 I walked seven miles (No night buses for some reason)from the West End getting to Green Lanes 02.00 am There it was like a Oasis the only shop open back then at that time the Kebab Shop. Now I think most shops are open 24/7 7 days a week. I always got me Harringays and Haringeys mixed up Thus Harringay Bridge is attached to Haringey Station is that correct.
Thank you very much for sharing your story and the history that would otherwise be never known to us.!
