  • Eleanor Powell and Fred Astaire to the Contours 1964 Twisted Wheel classic.

    Here's a better quality remake • Twisted Soul .. 1966 ....
It's a cold man to hurt his woman
And watch her walk away crying
When all along, he knows he's wrong
To be so hard on a woman that's trying
I was so unkind to hurt you so
    Going out of my mind
I just gotta let you know..
Baby, I can't let you go
I realize I hurt you so
Our love, surely can be mended
    It's just a little misunderstanding
    I remember you said
    You would always care
Until death should we be apart.
Then it surely must be .. my destiny
To die the death of a broken heart
So before I become, a wandering rover
    Let's get together
    Talk this thing over.
Baby, I can't let you go
I realize I hurt you so
Our love, surely can be mended
It's just a little misunderstanding. That's all it is.
We've been loving so long ..
    that it just seems wrong.
that our love could never be
    Be anywhere .. baby, I wouldn't care
If I thought that you needed me.
All the chains in the world
Cant hold me .. cant hold me
Like a robot your love controls me ..
    Baby .....

One of the most perfect Northern Soul records ever - THE Twisted Wheel ender (my late wonderful husband whose account this is used to go - and though very ill for the last years of his life ALWAYS danced to this). Dave

One of the best pop songs ever with the Contours, linked to two of the best dancers ever - Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell. Whoever put this song and video together ? well we all owe them our greatest thanks for keeping this alive, just fantastic !

    • @georgephinn822

The Contours had the talent to be real “superstars”. But the “Temptation’s “ and the “Four Tops” had the “Spotlights” It’s just a little miss understanding and Do You Love Me were the TWO biggest Songs by the Contours. You could dance your shoes off on these two Songs. Motown Ruled the entire 60’s - after all they had ALL the super stars on Motown - Diana Ross & The Supremes - Smokey Robinson & The Miracels - The Four Tops - The Marvelettes - The Contours - Martha Revees & The Vandellas - Mary Wells - Marvin Gaye - The Marvelettes - Kim Weston - Saundra Edwards & The Elgins - Stevie Wonder. Motown made a Big Impact on the Music World - Thaks to ALL THE SUPER STARS - it Wouldn’t be Motown with out them

For the record when the clip starts it labels Freds' partner in dance to be Elaine Powell, but in fact it is Eleanor Powell who was probably the most accomplished female dancer of her time. As an aside this is one of my top 5 records for dancing. I find it absolutely infectious and could not sit still whilst it is playing if my life depended on it.

This track is ageless. 1966 it came out a lots of mods, rude boys (later skinheads) and northern soul boys (UK) would have danced their socks off to The Contours at The Torch Stoke, Wigan Casino, Twisted Wheel Manchester and Leeds Central ....... to name but of few clubs. White working class kids were buying and playing this stuff - Motown, Stax, Atlantic etc. - years before US Radio stations were playing it to mainstream listeners & audiences. We were so cool then and still are now.
