shifter is an NPC card, too many VS players are so brainwashed into using it in VS when it really is unnecessary. people over value hurting your opponent vs having a good hand to play

If it hurts your opponent more than it hurts you, there’s just cause to play the card. You don’t need to have an extremely optimal turn 1 if THEY don’t get a turn 1 because you shifter’d them. You could almost literally shifter pass against a lot of decks and then just play a full turn and OTK on the next turn. It’s basically a turn skip card against a lot of decks in a deck where snowballing into resources each turn matters. Plus it’s a dark. ALSO, the deck functions just fine with or without it, so calling it an NPC card is such a weird take, it’s a legitimate tech. That’s like calling TCBOO a NPC card. Shifter is a card that we can use and still make decent boards with it, so if we can and don’t what are we doing??? Sure the deck is better without shifter in a vacuum, but vacuums don’t exist in Yugioh and really the point is making our matchups as winnable as possible.
You’re not better than other people because you could play shifter and don’t. Actually I think that literally translates into you being a worse player because you view not playing an auto win card into a lot of the top decks as the right play.
