I always found the 2000 mini series adaptation to be entertaining for some reason. It somehow intrigued me more than the 1984 movies. Regardless, the books are incredible.
That's because the 2000 miniseries rarely tries to beef up the source material; Baron Harkonnen is as charming and cunning as he is in the book for example. Come movie time he is all butched up and chews the scenery like a Captain Planet villain.
the 2000 mini series keept it very close to the book, if they had more budget for production it would have been the best adaption so far. the 2021 movie cuts so much important stuff and backgroundinfos from the movie so it becomes hard to follow whats realy going on.
the mini series is plain awful. The costumes, the effects, the acting. It really does a disservice to the source material. And no, it was not a budget issue. The art direction was really, really bad and the acting was awfully bland.
This is what I've summarized from other comments so far (across the years on RUclips) : Jodorowsky Dune = Wild Lynch Dune = Artistic Harrison SyFy Dune = Thorough Villeneuve Dune = Technical My favorite will always be Lynch's Dune. It was Universal Pictures who meddled & butchered it. And Frank Herbert understood the concept of an "adaptation" as was said in old news articles, hence he liked the film, or at least most of it. And the 2012 Spicediver Alternative Cut (also upscaled to 4k) edited Lynch's movie closer to Frank's book, thus it is more or less a redemption for Lynch, who sadly lost control of the editing of later cuts. And by the time he was asked to do something like a Director's Cut, he declined due to the trauma. And out of all the different live-action adaptations so far, Lynch's Dune makes the distinction of being the only one who got to work with Frank. One day, when all of us armchair critics are still debating the different Dunes, there will always be another remake on the horizon, 2-5 decades from now. And then another one after that & so forth. Maybe even bickering until the same amount of time has surpassed as in the Dune story, i.e. 20 millennia, which in that time range there will probably be around a million different Dune remakes, lmao.

I see what they are doing with the new version of him, keeping the harkonnen theme of bald and ugly, but he is very far away from the descripton in the books. Nevertheless Dune Part II will be another masterpiece I think 😄
Dude, no offence to Sting, but his version of Feyd looked way more ugly and silly than Austin's version.
@@TheAris621 Yeah but if I remember right, Feyd in the book is the opposite of his uncle . Good looking and shredded.
@@ratatoskr8190 but apart from being bold and white, the new version is still good looking and shredded. Especially in a contrast with Barons’ character or Rabans’. I do not like the new concept of Harkonnens being a bunch of ugly orcs though.
@@imermak Yeah I agree. The Baron himself is great, but I also don't like, that they have this uniform harkonnen theme. I think it's a movie thing, that you can easily say who is who or sth like that.
@@ratatoskr8190 for sure, for audience it’s much easier to differentiate the good guys from the bad guys. But the concept in the book that they Harkonnens are same humans as Atreidis is more appealing to me. Heck I just recalled that Paul is related to Baron. Why isn’t he white or bold then?
Excellent
"Usual has caught a big one. Again it is the legend."
A lot of scenes from 84 dune look better.
Sting prancing out and grinning is hilarious though
All look better
'84 Dune had a 30% higher budget than return of the Jedi, of course it looks good.
2024 takes the aesthetics of the 1984 on crack and also things from the 1992 Cryo game (based on 1984).... +more faithfulness to the story (well with some adaptations that leaves room to be discussed) but nonetheless dune 2020/2024 is the best adaptation so far
OMGOMGOMGOMG !!!! Can’t wait. 🤯
Some great clips both. I love Villenueve's shots at scale, but Fincher shoots so well too. Both geniuses!
??? David Lynch...'84
>Fincher
top kek, put me on the screen cap
If you like David Fincher's Dune, you should check out David Fincher's Terminator 2: Fight club!
That Midjourney 80s version of dune is insane.
Actually 1984 one looking good
Incredible.
sting in a speedo will always be the better version
It’s so cool David Lynch is making Dune 2 the way he intended. 😋
1983 skills vs 2020+ thanks for woking up
???
Lynch version still looks epic , distinct and lush. Really hope they improve the colouring of Arrakis because it looks beautiful and dreamy and mystical in Lynch version but so uninteresting in the new ones.
I'm getting a bit nervous. Feyd was pretty, not demonic looking. He was actually very charming until he wasn't.
I'm wondering if they'll include the scene where Feyd tries to use one of the baron's slaves to assassinate him. That was one of my favorite chapters.
we knew what he will look like when we saw that new movie made them all alien looking and dressed in black all the time
@@sillylittlesheepjax6009 I'm trying to remember to allow for artistic expression, but as a student of the lore I'm nitpicky.
Wow Villeneuve film color is really cooooold
Actual movie. 🙌🏻
Ambas en su momento espectaculares. Una de las historias de ciencia ficción mas apasionantes de todos lo tiempos.
1:03 не ну это жесть...
👏👏👏👏👏
Well done!
I'm more partial to the Lynch version
It looked way hotter in 1984's desert.
Dune 1984 - best
How f@{king marvelous...
Can’t wait
I still want Jodorowsky's Dune 😔
Good job
84 made looks better for book fans
The worm was really impressive in david film
Princess irulem was also gorgeous
Itzzzz gunnna be gooooooooooooooooooooood.
Am I the only one who thinks the only thing missing from the new dune movies that could further improve them is the soundtrack from the 1984 version
The new dune does not include Sting in Michelin underwear, making it an inferior version.
THE PAINNNNN!!!!
That was great
