Nice bro. I love the super start guitars. Theyre so versatile, i just recetnly took the plunge back in March and bought a brand new 2021 Jackson Adrian Snith USA with ebony fretboard. I love having a humbucker along with single coils. I couldn't ask for a more perfect guitar.
Awesome product. Makes the Yamaha amp so much more useful. The lack of a footswitch has always been annoying on these amps, even though I love them still!
Japanese manufactured music equipment has always been amazing. Just look at how amazing ESP guitars are. If you like charvel/Jackson then you will like ESP most likely
Just ensure both are fully updated with the latest firmware. After that step, the THR and that footswitch is pretty close to the perfect platform - for me at least.
love your channel - remember I had a lesson with you! Very helpful. Anyway - final got me a THR30ii - WOW love it. Now do I feel my 5150iii cos it is now an ornament lol. A very cool one mind lol
Love the channel!....At 2:08 you say that you can add to a pedal board to the the THR live... could you do a video running through the live possibilities... i.e. would you use powered speakers or a separate power stage to power a cab ect. I love my THR30ii and these switches open op the options but I'd miss the fuzz and a wah sounds needed to complete the live set up. how would you go about building the THR into a gigable set up?
Bought both a So-cal (white) guitar and the THR30 II; fantastic gear, I must say! I've been taking some inspiration from your great EVH videos. Recording with the THR is... interesting. I know the AMP has its own soundcard - plug and play can't beat it for its simplicity, really. And the sound is better than most plug-ins. However, whenever I open or switch songs at my recording software, Studio One, I get a terrible connection noise, like a pixelated crunch in your ear. Luckily it goes away after selecting the THR audio driver on and off. Any thoughts on the matter?
That’s awesome! Glad there’s finally an option for channel changing pedals! Just curious, what song is that riff from that u played, it’s sounds killer!!!
The only limitation i can see with this is the inability to turn the drive/distortion on/off. So you can’t (i believe) go from clean to distortion with the footswitch. I guess you could step up to next patch with higher gain, but that would affect the other effect settings though. I think these airsteps are a great idea and work really well with boss waza air for example, but perhaps a bit limited with the thr due too lack of drive pedal simulation. I’d be interested in your thought Cam.
You can make the Airstep work the way you mentioned. You make a clean preset with all the necessary effects you need and save that to the THR (make that preset 1). Then modify preset 1, make a distortion sound you love without tampering with the effects too much then save it as preset 2. If you put the Airstep in Mode 2 you'll then be able to switch up and down between clean and distorted. As for the WAZA Air, I don't own one of those so I am afraid I won't be doing anything for Boss.
If you save the presets into the amp with all effects turned on then, yes. Save the two presets you like with all desired effects on, therefore changing from clean to heavy will keep all effects on as if there were actual pedals on the floor
Yo Cam! You've been a huge inspiration to me since I discovered your channel, I'm starting to take my playing in a heavier direction and I'm looking for a super strat now. Not expecting a response, but how does everybody feel the DK24 HH FR stacks up to that EVH 5150 standard guitars? I'm going to be trying out a few this weekend, but if I wanted the HH FR I would have to order it sight unseen, there are none around me
Hey Jimmy! Both guitars feel very similar indeed! Neck on the 5150 is a little smaller widthwise but you get more sounds out of the DK. You'd be happy with either. It mainly comes down to what you prefer the look of and how many sounds you'd need.
Hey Cameron love the videos, Is there any chance you could send me a link to what wireless receiver you use for the Yamaha amp? Also when it sais wireless , does that also include playing music from phone wirelessly , kinds of like a really expensive Bluetooth speaker? Thanks 🙏
Hey James, the THR30ii is it's own reciever and is compatible with the THR Wireless amps. The Airstep doesn't come with a reciever. It connects to the amp out of the box.
I don't think so. My phone won't connect via bluetooth while the AirstepYT is connected so i don't think a wireless unit will. I wouldn't worry about it though. The footswitch is more useful than a wireless unit in my experience with these amps.
@@CameronCooper I think it may work now that i think about it because the cheap $30 wireless guitar transmitter i use isn't using bluetooth from the amp. The receiver just plugs into the amp where a regular cord goes. And then it's got a transmitter that plugs directly into the guitars input jack. Thanks for replying though
Those amps were the first gen of THRs and I don't think they had footswitches in mind for those amps at that point. But who knows, keep in mind it's the 10th Anniversary of the THR amps this year, I suspect cool things are around the corner.
If you mean link it to pedals on a pedal board then no because it wasn't designed to do that. But I have it set where I can control each individual effect in the THR30ii as I explained in this video
@@CameronCooper I get that mode 3 allows some customization but what I’m asking is, can I assign an effect to whatever footswitch I wish or am I stuck with the layout of mode 3 and only one customizable switch?
@@MathewsGuitarWorks ahh I understand now. I don't think you can customise the button layout but my footswitch came with sticky labels. If you wanted you could write the name of the effect you use and then stick it next to it's appropriate button 😊👍🏻
Hey Cameron…..I am a 60 year old disabled vet with brain injury so I get easily confused at times when it comes to signal routing and trying to figure out a solution for adding a second THR30 for a volume boost as I like busking and playing blues over backing tracks. I have the THR30 with the Airstep YT bluetooth foot pedal so I can switch channels or add effects which makes using the THR30 a joy. I also have the Line 6 G10 transmitter so I am fully wireless. So trying to figure out a working solution to ideally still be wireless, play along with backing tracks and use the Airstep foot controller. So here are my questions and would be so grateful if you or one of your smart subscribers could explain if this would work or if you have another suggestion. 1.). Can I use the Line 6 G10 relay to simultaneously control both amps? I read conflicting views online if that can work. 2.). Can I simultaneously bluetooth backing tracks from my iPhone to both amps? 3.) Same goes for Airstep footpedal. Any idea if my Airstep pedal can simultaneously control channel switching on both THR30s? My other idea is if the above option does not work, is take line out from amp 1 into Aux on amp 2 to get the backing tracks and guitar sound from amp 1 and feed the sound into amp 2. I would keep amp 2 on a clean channel so backing tracks do not get distorted and just use the Airstep to switch guitar channels on amp 1 so amp 2 just be used for the extra volume. Not sure if I can use left or right line out or would I need a stereo out that converts to the 3.5 mm Aux in. This would be ideal if it works because both amps would have the same sounds when switching channels on Amp 1. The other option is going line out on amp 1 to the line in on Amp 2 instead of Aux. Again not sure if I need a stereo cable that converts into a single 1/4 inch or just use the left or right line out. With this setup I would use a splitter cable from my iPhone so I can send backing tracks to the Aux inputs on both amps simultaneously. But if I take line out of Amp 1 one into line in on Amp 2, wouldn’t that mean the backing tracks from amp one would be also be distorted when I switch channels on amp 2 so not sure if that solution makes sense. Ideally I would like both amps to have clean backing tracks and the same guitar tones when switching channels. I also know there are pedals that give you a stereo output with one line output going to each amps input and I could also add a overdrive pedal to front end the THR30s but the sounds of the Yamaha amp are so amazing this would just make more gear to carry around so hoping there is a better way. The last option is using an external powered speaker like a JBL Boombox 2. Has anyone tried this option and if so how did it sound? The JBL Boombox 2 costs the same as a THR30 so wondering if this makes more sense? I just like the thought of using two THR30s so I could jam with another musician if they have a keyboard, bass or guitar. Plus it’s nice having a backup amp. Sorry for long post and I thank you or anyone of your subscribers who took the time to read this and recommend a solution. I am very grateful🙏
Hey Bob, I'm super technically savvy when it comes to these things and the ideas you wrote in your last paragraphs are worth exploring I think. But sadly the answers to the first 3 questions are all know from what I can ascertain. The Airstep operates via bluetooth and is only designed to control one device. Same goes for connecting a device to play along to backing tracks with.
@@CameronCooper thanks Cameron. I am in NY now and when I get back to Austin I am going to play around with my gear hoping I can figure this out. I am also going to call JBL support because I have an ebike equipped with 6 JBL extreme 3 speakers and one JBL boombox 2 all connected together using the partyboost feature which when combined is like 450 watts of power. So if there is a way to use the line out on THR30 and connect to the JBLs and still be able to use partyboost I will have a 450 watt mobile busking setup as I keep the THR30 in my saddle bags and wear guitar on my back to get around Austin. That would be so dope. Worst case scenario is stream my backing tracks to the JBL extreme 3s and plug THR30 into JBL Boombox 2 which will still be a huge volume boost. But I would still love to figure out how to use two THR30s when not on my bike. I will report back if I can figure out a working solution. ✌️
